Evolution of the adaptogenic concept from traditional use to medical systems: Pharmacology of stress‐ and aging‐related diseases

2020

Abstract Adaptogens comprise a category of herbal medicinal and nutritional products promoting adaptability, resilience, and survival of living organisms in stress. The aim of this review was to summarize the growing knowledge about common adaptogenic plants used in various traditional medical systems (TMS) and conventional medicine and to provide a modern rationale for their use in the treatment of stress‐induced and aging‐related disorders. Adaptogens have pharmacologically pleiotropic effects on the neuroendocrine‐immune system, which explain their traditional use for the treatment of a wide range of conditions. They exhibit a biphasic dose‐effect response: at low doses they function as …

An evaluation of the environmental factors for supply chain strategy decisions using grey systems and composite indicators

2020

[EN] The purpose of this work is to assess the importance of environmental factors in a supply chain with four partners as a preliminary step to select the competitive strategies and objectives. To achieve this purpose, a real case study was carried out in a footwear supply chain, in which two approaches were used: the grey system theory and uncertainty analysis tools for composite indicators. In order to validate both approaches, a seven-phase research methodology was developed and applied to our case study. In addition, the priorization of environmental factors was calculated individually for each partner. The results allow managers to establish the competitive strategy that best suits th…

Multicriteria Prioritization for Multistage Implementation of Complex Urban Renewal Projects

2015

Renewal projects on neighborhood scale often include several sub projects aiming at fulfill the different functions of urban areas, while public funds or activated public-private partnership can be insufficient to face the implementation of subprojects simultaneously. Therefore single parts of wider projects are frequently realized at different period of time, according to the availability of public funds or the interest of private partners in the most profitable projects. Although a major organizational effort of funding could be necessary, a more rational approach is required, which will be able to identify the most suitable sequence of realization ensuring the greatest advantage if non c…

Decisiones automatizadas: problemas y soluciones jurídicas. Más allá de la protección de datos

2021

The long and winding road: Accidents and tinkering in software standardization

2021

Software is based on universal principles but not its development. Relating software to hardware is never automatic or easy. Attempts to optimize software production and drastically reduce their costs (like in hardware) have been very restricted. Instead, highly-skilled and experienced individuals are ultimately responsible for project success. The long and convoluted path towards useful and reliable software is often plagued by idiosyncratic accidents and emergent complexity. It was expected that software standardisation would remove these sources of unwanted diversity by aiming to controllable development processes, universal programming languages, and toolkits of reusable software compon…

A potential solution to avoid overdose of mixed drugs in the event of Covid-19: Nanomedicine at the heart of the Covid-19 pandemic.

2021

Since 2020, the world is facing the first global pandemic of 21st century. Among all the solutions proposed to treat this new strain of coronavirus, named SARS-CoV-2, the vaccine seems a promising way but the delays are too long to be implemented quickly. In the emergency, a dual therapy has shown its effectiveness but has also provoked a set of debates around the dangerousness of a particular molecule, hydroxychloroquine. In particular, the doses to be delivered, according to the studies, were well beyond the acceptable doses to support the treatment without side effects. We propose here to use all the advantages of nanovectorization to address this question of concentration. Using quantum…

Applying System Dynamics Modeling To Foster a Cause-and-Effect Perspective in Dealing with Behavioral Distortions Associated with a City’s Performanc…

2015

This paper aims to show how applying system dynamics methodology to performance management can provide a powerful modeling perspective enabling public sector organizations to prevent, detect, and counteract behavioral distortions associated with performance measurement. A dynamic performance management approach is able to support performance management system designers in outlining and implementing a consistent set of measures that can allow public sector decision-makers to pursue sustainable organizational learning and development. This perspective implies a major shift from a static to a dynamic picture of organizational processes and results. It means framing delays between causes and ef…

Supporting public decision process in buildings energy retrofitting operations: the application of a Multiple Criteria Decision Aiding model to a cas…

2020

Abstract The challenge of promoting sustainable cities and reaching the objectives developed by the European Green Deal includes the renovation of the building sector, as it is responsible for 40% of energy consumption in Europe. Regional or local public administrations have to allocate their financial resources for improving the energy performances of their building stock and to face a multidimensional problem, where different aspects – such as energy efficiency, financial-economic feasibility and environmental protection – have to be harmonized. The present study proposes a Multiple Criteria Decision Aiding model, which includes the ELECTRE TRI-nC method, for supporting the public decisio…

Impact evaluation of EU funds: Examples in infrastructure projects

2011

Being one of investment areas within EU Cohesion policy the sector of public infrastructure frequently faces the issue of efficiency. This issue largely arises from the lack of theoretical and practical concepts on how the evaluation techniques could achieve rigorous estimations of the investment impact on the current processes in the sector. The present paper seeks to contribute to these discussions by defining crucial problems in developing rigorous estimations relevant to public infrastructure projects and setting the assumptions. The research method is comparative and logical analysis of the theoretical concepts, methods and conclusions, published in scientific literature including poli…
