Ihmisen hyvinvointi on moniulotteinen ilmiö, joka ei ole pelkistettävissä yksilötasolle ja hyvän terveyden käsitteisiin. Liittyminen ja yhteenkuuluvuus toisiin on ihmisen keskeinen perustarve, ja tässä katsausartikkelissa jäsennämme niitä eri näkökulmia, joita eri tieteenalat ja tarkastelutavat tarjoavat sosiaalisen hyvinvoinnin ymmärtämiseksi. Sosiaalinen hyvinvointi rakentuu ja muovautuu koko elämän ajan yksilön vuorovaikutuksessa ryhmänsä, yhteisöjensä ja yhteiskunnan kanssa. Yksilöiden välisten erojen lisäksi myös yhteiskunnat eroavat keskimääräisessä hyvinvoinnissaan, samoin eri väestöryhmät ja yhteisöt yhteiskunnan sisällä. Hoivatyö muutoksessa : suomalainen vanhustyö pohjoismaisessa vertailussa

NORDCARE2-tutkimushanke on pohjoismaisen tutkijaryhmän vuonna 2015 toteuttama uusintatutkimus kymmenen vuotta aiemmasta tutkimuksesta, joka tuotti ensimmäistä kertaa vertailukelpoista tietoa hoivatyön työtehtävistä ja työolosuhteista eri Pohjoismaissa. Tämä raportti esittää hankkeen keskeisimmät tulokset suomalaisen hoivatyön näkökulmasta. NORDCARE2-hankkeen kyselyaineisto kerättiin syksyllä 2015. Suomessa tutkimuksen otoksena toimi molemmilla kerroilla Superin, JHL:n ja Tehyn vanhustyötä tekevästä jäsenkunnasta tehty satunnaisotos. Sairaanhoitajat eivät sisälly tutkimukseen. Tutkimukseni tarkoituksena on selvittää miten lapsen sosiaalisia riskejä määritellään ja tunnistetaan päivähoidon ja sosiaalityön moniammatillisessa yhteistyössä. Tarkoituksena on valottaa ja vertailla eri ammatillisesta asiantuntijuudesta nousevia kokemuksia sosiaalisista riskeistä yksilötasolla. Tutkimuksessani halusin myös selvittää milloin riskeihin puututaan ja mikä vaikutus on kontekstilla sosiaalisten riskien tunnistamisessa. Lisäksi halusin kuvata riskien määrittelyssä, tunnistamisessa ja puuttumisessa esille nousseita ongelmia ja sitä miten toimijat näkevät yhteistyön tässä yhteydessä muototuvan. Domain-Specific Risk and Public Policy

We develop a method to estimate domain-specific risk. We apply the method to sickness insurance by fitting a utility function at the individual level, using European survey data on life satisfaction. Three results stand out. First, relative risk aversion increases with income. Second, marginal utility is higher in the sick state conditional on income, due to an observed fixed cost of sickness. Third, the domain-specificity of risk shifts the focus on the smoothing of utility, not consumption. The optimal policy rule implies that the replacement rates should be non-linear and decrease with income. nonPeerReviewed

This dissertation examines the impact that the materiality of institutions has on patients and staff. Fieldwork has been carried out at five district psychiatric centres (Distriktspsykiatriske sentra, DPS) that were originally built as tuberculosis institutions. The patients’ and employees’ experiences of being present in the physical and social space of these institutions has been examined, interpreted and reflected upon. The paper provides knowledge about the significance institutions’ materiality and inner life has on the informants, and how the informants influence the materiality. Joint second-order parameter estimation for spatio-temporal log-Gaussian Cox processes

We propose a new fitting method to estimate the set of second-order parameters for the class of homogeneous spatio-temporal log-Gaussian Cox point processes. With simulations, we show that the proposed minimum contrast procedure, based on the spatio-temporal pair correlation function, provides reliable estimates and we compare the results with the current available methods. Moreover, the proposed method can be used in the case of both separable and non-separable parametric specifications of the correlation function of the underlying Gaussian Random Field. We describe earthquake sequences comparing several Cox model specifications.

Interspecific information on predation risk affects nest site choice in a passerine bird

Abstract Background Breeding site choice constitutes an important part of the species niche. Nest predation affects breeding site choice, and has been suggested to drive niche segregation and local coexistence of species. Interspecific social information use may, in turn, result in copying or rejection of heterospecific niche characteristics and thus affect realized niche overlap between species. We tested experimentally whether a migratory bird, the pied flycatcher Ficedula hypoleuca, collects information about nest predation risk from indirect cues of predators visiting nests of heterospecific birds.
