Cross-national validation of the social media disorder scale: findings from adolescents from 44 countries

2022

Background and aims: There is currently no cross-national validation of a scale that measures problematic social media use (SMU). The present study investigated and compared the psychometric properties of the social media disorder (SMD) scale among young adolescents from different countries. Design: Validation study. Setting and participants: Data came from 222 532 adolescents from 44 countries participating in the health behaviour in school-aged children (HBSC) survey (2017/2018). The HBSC survey was conducted in the European region and Canada. Participants were on average aged 13.54 years (standard deviation = 1.63) and 51.24% were girls. Measurement: Problematic SMU was measured using th…

Vinflunine in Metastatic Urothelial Carcinoma of the Bladder in Progression after a Platinum-Containing Regimen

2019

<b><i>Background:</i></b> Vinflunine is a microtubule inhibitor of the vinca alkaloid class approved for the treatment of urothelial bladder carcinoma after a platinum-containing regimen. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> To evaluate the effectiveness of vinflunine, we enrolled 80 subjects with a histologically confirmed diagnosis of metastatic urothelial bladder carcinoma that had previously undergone chemotherapy with a platinum-containing regimen and had measurable lesions according to the Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST). The patients (<i>n</i> = 80) received vinflunine (Javlor®) every 3 weeks at 320 mg/m2&…

R-CVP versus R-CHOP versus R-FM for the initial treatment of patients with advanced-stage follicular lymphoma: results of the FOLL05 trial conducted …

2013

Purpose Although rituximab (R) is commonly used for patients with advanced follicular lymphoma (FL) requiring treatment, the optimal associated chemotherapy regimen has yet to be clarified. Patients and Methods We conducted an open-label, multicenter, randomized trial among adult patients with previously untreated stages II to IV FL to compare efficacy of eight doses of R associated with eight cycles of cyclophosphamide, vincristine, and prednisone (CVP) or six cycles of cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone (CHOP) or six cycles of fludarabine and mitoxantrone (FM). The principal end point of the study was time to treatment failure (TTF). Results There were 534 patients…

Midostaurin upregulates eNOS gene expression and preserves eNOS function in the microcirculation of the mouse

2005

Nitric oxide (NO) derived from endothelial NO synthase (eNOS) is a powerful vasodilator and possesses vasoprotective effects. Therefore, augmentation of eNOS expression and -activity by pharmacological means could provide protection against cardiovascular disease. However, this concept has been questioned recently, because in several disease models, eNOS upregulation was associated with a dysfunctional enzyme (referred to as eNOS uncoupling). In contrast, the present study demonstrates that an eNOS gene expression-enhancing compound with additional protein kinase C (PKC) inhibitory properties can upregulate eNOS while preserving its enzymatic function. Apolipoprotein E-knockout mice were tr…

Betulinic acid protects against cerebral ischemia–reperfusion injury in mice by reducing oxidative and nitrosative stress

2011

Increased production of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species following cerebral ischemia-reperfusion is a major cause for neuronal injury. In hypercholesterolemic apolipoprotein E knockout (ApoE-KO) mice, 2h of middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion followed by 22h of reperfusion led to an enhanced expression of NADPH oxidase subunits (NOX2, NOX4 and p22phox) and isoforms of nitric oxide synthase (neuronal nNOS and inducible iNOS) in the ischemic hemisphere compared with the non-ischemic contralateral hemisphere. This was associated with elevated levels of 3-nitrotyrosine, an indicator of peroxynitrite-mediated oxidative protein modification. Pre-treatment with betulinic acid (50mg/kg/day f…

Low SOD activity is associated with overproduction of peroxynitrite and nitric oxide in patients with acute coronary syndrome

2015

Abstract Objective The present study was undertaken to evaluate the variation of the oxidative/nitrosative stress status in a population of subjects; with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), and examine its possible implication in plaque rupture which is the main mechanism in the pathophysiology of ACS. Patients and methods We made this study on 50 men with ACS and 50 age and sex matched healthy controls. Nitrosative/oxidative stress markers including; nitric oxide, superoxide anion levels, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and peroxynitrite levels were evaluated in blood samples of patients and controls. Results Compared with healthy subjects, coronary patients had significantly higher nitric…

Dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI parameters as biomarkers for the effect of vatalanib in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer.

2014

ABSTRACT:  Aims: To assess the utility of dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI parameters in the demonstration of early antiangiogenic effects and as prognostic biomarkers in second-line treatment of advanced-stage non-small-cell lung cancer with vatalanib. Patients & methods: The transfer constant (Ktrans) and the initial area under the contrast concentration–time curve at 60 s (AUC60) were assessed in 46 patients. Changes were compared with response evaluation from computed tomography imaging and Response Evaluation Criteria In Solid Tumors guidelines. Results: Statistically significant mean reductions in Ktrans (38.4%; p < 0.0001) and AUC60 (24.9%; p < 0.0001) were found at day 2. Af…

Genome-wide association scan of quantitative traits for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder identifies novel associations and confirms candidate…

2008

Contains fulltext : 70192.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a complex condition with environmental and genetic etiologies. Up to this point, research has identified genetic associations with candidate genes from known biological pathways. In order to identify novel ADHD susceptibility genes, 600,000 SNPs were genotyped in 958 ADHD proband-parent trios. After applying data cleaning procedures we examined 429,981 autosomal SNPs in 909 family trios. We generated six quantitative phenotypes from 18 ADHD symptoms to be used in genome-wide association analyses. With the PBAT screening algorithm, we identified 2 SNPs, rs6565113 and rs5526…

Genome-wide association scan of the time to onset of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

2008

Contains fulltext : 70149.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) A time-to-onset analysis for family-based samples was performed on the genomewide association (GWAS) data for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) to determine if associations exist with the age at onset of ADHD. The initial dataset consisted of 958 parent-offspring trios that were genotyped on the Perlegen 600,000 SNP array. After data cleaning procedures, 429,981 autosomal SNPs and 930 parent-offspring trios were used found suitable for use and a family-based logrank analysis was performed using that age at first ADHD symptoms as the quantitative trait of interest. No SNP achieved genome-wide significance, and…
