Investigation of absorber and heterojunction in the pure sulphide kesterite
2021
This paper aims to study the properties of the absorber layer and the heterojunction in kesterite solar cells. The Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) thin films were layered on a glass substrate from a colloidal solution of metal salts and thiourea dissolved in a mixture of water and ethanol and deposited by spin coating technique. The samples were then heat treated in a furnace, in the presence of sulphur powder and under a nitrogen gas flow. The results revealed the formation of homogeneous layers of a pure kesterite phase of CZTS crystallites after heat treatment with correct stoichiometry and oxidation states. The optical transmission measurements indicate an energy band-gap of 1.4 eV and an absorption c…
STRUCTURAL FEATURES AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF PLLA/PEARL POWDER SCAFFOLDS
2013
In order to improve the mechanical properties of scaffolds for bone tissue engineering, the present study aims to bring calcium carbonate (CaCO3) with signaling molecules, namely pearl powder, into poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA). PLLA/aragonite and PLLA/vaterite scaffolds were successfully fabricated by the freeze-drying method. Both composite scaffolds had a similar porous structure but a different saturated content of pearl powders. For both scaffolds, the porosity decreases and yield strength increases as pearl powder content increases. Introducing pearl powders into PLLA can improve the mechanical properties of the scaffolds. The porous structure plays a crucial role in the yield strength …
Performance Study of Split Ferrite Cores Designed for EMI Suppression on Cables
2020
The ideal procedure to start designing an electronic device is to consider the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) from the beginning. Even so, EMC problems can appear afterward, especially when the designed system is interconnected with external devices. Thereby, electromagnetic interferences (EMIs) could be transmitted to our device from power cables that interconnect it with an external power source or are connected to another system to establish wired communication. The application of an EMI suppressor such as a sleeve core that encircles the cables is a widely used technique to attenuate EM disturbances. This contribution is focused on the characterization of a variation of this cable …
Pressure-induced band anticrossing in two adamantine ordered-vacancy compounds: CdGa2S4 and HgGa2S4
2021
Abstract This paper reports a joint experimental and theoretical study of the electronic band structure of two ordered-vacancy compounds with defect-chalcopyrite structure: CdGa2S4 and HgGa2S4. High-pressure optical-absorption experiments (up to around 17 GPa) combined with first-principles electronic band-structure calculations provide compelling evidence of strong nonlinear pressure dependence of the bandgap in both compounds. The nonlinear pressure dependence is well accounted for by the band anticrossing model that was previously established mostly for selenides with defect chalcopyrite structure. Therefore, our results on two sulfides with defect chalcopyrite structure under compressio…
Spark plasma sintering of cobalt ferrite nanopowders prepared by coprecipitation and hydrothermal synthesis.
2007
International audience; Cobalt ferrite exhibits a high coercivity at room temperature and a strong magnetic anisotropy compared to the other spinel ferrites and, consequently appears as an interesting material for permanent magnets and high-density recording. The magnetic properties depend also on the crystallite size. In order to keep the powder properties in a bulk material, dense nanostructured cobalt ferrite has to be sintered. A field activated sintering process like spark plasma sintering (SPS) may be promising for such challenge. The present paper deals with: (i) the preparation of cobalt ferrite by two methods: coprecipitation and hydrothermal synthesis in supercritical water; (ii) …
The Ba2LnFeNb4O15 “tetragonal tungsten bronze”: Towards RT composite multiferroics
2009
Several Niobium oxides of formula Ba2LnFeNb4O15 (Ln = La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd) with the Tetragonal Tungsten Bronze (TTB) structure have been synthesised by conventional solid-state methods. The Neodymium, Samarium and Europium compounds are ferroelectric with Curie temperature ranging from 320 to 440K. The Praseodymium and Gadolinium compounds behave as relaxors below 170 and 300 K respectively. The Praseodymium, Neodymium, Samarium, Europium and Gadolinium compounds exhibit magnetic hysteresis loops at room temperature originating from traces of a barium ferrite secondary phase. The presence of both ferroelectric and magnetic hysteresis loops at room temperature allows considering these mat…
Photocatalytic activity of non-stoichiometric ZnFe2O4under visible light irradiation
2014
Nanostructured zinc ferrites with different excess iron contents (ZnFe2+zO4, where z = 0.00, 0.05, 0.10 and 0.15) have been synthesized using the sol–gel auto-combustion method. The effect of excess iron on the structural, optical and visible light photocatalytic activity of zinc ferrite samples has been investigated. X-ray diffraction (XRD), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller theory, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV–Vis) and photoluminescence spectroscopy were used to characterize the synthesized non-stoichiometric ZnFe2O4 powders. The XRD patterns demonstrated that the samples con…
Influence of calcination on the structural properties of earth abundant Cu2ZnSnS4
2021
Abstract In the present work, we report on the synthesis of nano-crystalline kesterite copper zinc tin sulfide (CZTS) in powder form and the post-annealing process at high temperatures (calcination), and study their physical properties. We have successfully synthesized CZTS by direct fusion, and the resulting material was crushed to obtain a fine powder. Then, the resulting powder was calcined at high temperatures: 800–1000 ∘C. The calcined samples have been characterized with a number of different structural: X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and optical techniques: photoluminescence (PL), Raman and diffuse reflectance spectr…
Crystallization and upconversion luminescence of distorted fluorite nanocrystals in Ba2+ containing oxyfluoride glass ceramics
2016
Abstract In this study novel Er 3+ -doped transparent glass ceramics were prepared from melt-quenched glasses with general composition of Na 2 O-NaF-BaF 2 -YF 3 -Al 2 O 3 -SiO 2 . The phase composition of the annealed glass ceramics strongly depends on the BaF 2 content in glass matrix. Crystallization of β-NaYF 4 , cubic fluorite type, tetragonal nanocrystals and rhombohedral Ba 4 Y 3 F 17 was observed. An introduction of BaF 2 in the glass matrix suppresses the crystallization of β-NaYF 4 , promotes the formation of Ba 2+ containing fluoride phases and reduces the cross-relaxation between Er 3+ ions in fluoride crystals. Small rate of the nonradiative processes and low local symmetry of r…
Controlling phase formation in solids: rational synthesis of phase separated Co@Fe2O3 heteroparticles and CoFe2O4 nanoparticles
2011
A wet chemical approach from organometallic reactants allowed the targeted synthesis of Co@Fe(2)O(3) heterodimer and CoFe(2)O(4) ferrite nanoparticles. They display magnetic properties that are useful for magnetic MRI detection.
