Substitution of carcinogenic solvent dichloromethane for the extraction of volatile compounds in a fat-free model food system

2016

International audience; Dichloromethane is known as a very efficient solvent, but, as other halogenated solvents, is recognized as a hazardous product (CMR substance). The objective of the present work is to propose substitution solvent for the extraction of volatile compounds. The most important physico-chemical parameters in the choice of an appropriate extraction solvent of volatile compounds are reviewed. Various solvents are selected on this basis and on their hazard characteristics. The selected solvents, safer than dichloromethane, are compared using the extraction efficiency of volatile compounds from a model food product able to interact with volatile compounds. Volatile compounds …

Oxygen as a morphogenic factor in sponges: expression of a tyrosinase gene in the sponge Suberites domuncula

2004

Sponges live in a symbiotic relationship with microorganisms, especially bacteria. Here we show, using the demosponge Suberites domuncula as a model, that the sponge expresses the enzyme tyrosinase which synthesizes diphenols from monophenolic compounds. It is assumed that these products serve as carbon source for symbiotic bacteria to grow.

Sedimento-diagenetic origin of microporos carbonate reservoirs : example of the Mishrif (Fm) -Cenomanian of the Middle-East

2011

Microporosity may account for as much as 95% of the total porosity of hydrocarbon and water reservoirs in Cretaceous limestones of the Arabian Gulf. In these microporous facies porosity is moderate to excellent (up to 35%) while permeability is poor to moderate (up to 190mD). Conversely, microporous facies may form dense inter-reservoir or cap rock layers with very low porosity and permeability values (2–8% and 0.01–2mD, respectively). For this study, samples were mainly collected from the Cenomanian Mishrif Formation, but also from the Berriasian-Valanginian Habshan Formation, so as to examine the wide vertical and lateral discrepancies in their petrophysical parameters. Scanning Electron …

?Short Distance?-Variabilitt der Na-Gehalte niedrigmetamorpher mit Albit berhrungsparagenetisch koexistierender Hellglimmer

1973

White micas coexisting with albite, quartz, chlorite, and clinozoisite in low-grade schists of the Beaume Valley (Massif Central, France) have been analyzed by standard microprobe techniques. As the micas of an albite-rich thin section show significantly higher Na-contents than those of an albite-poor one of the same rock sample, the application of the muscovite-albite-geothermometer results in inconsistent temperature values. Thus the analyses may indicate that the distribution of sodium between coexisting white micas and albite not only depends on temperature and pressure but also on the chemical potentials of the alkalies in the metamorphic fluid phase.

Analytical and mineralogical studies of ore and impurities from a chromite mineral using X-ray analysis, electrochemical and microscopy techniques

2007

A wide analytical study of South African chromite ore, material with high interest in ceramic industry, has been carried out. With this purpose, an accurate chemical identification and mineralogical characterization of the mineral and the gangue have been performed using X-ray fluorescence (XRF), voltammetry, X-ray diffraction (XRD), light microscopy (LM), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM/EDX). The elemental composition of the sample (ore and gangue) has been obtained by XRF. The voltammetric analysis has allowed to demonstrate that iron in the sample was as Fe(II). The main compound of the chromite ore was a spinel (magnesiochromite ferroan), identified by XRD from the sample, which c…

Suspended core tellurite glass optical fibers for infrared supercontinuum generation

2011

International audience; We report the fabrication and characterization of tellurite TeO(2)-ZnO-Na(2)O (TZN) microstructured suspended core optical fibers (MOFs). These fibers are designed for infrared supercontinuum generation with zero dispersion wavelength (ZDW) at 1.451 mu m. The measured losses at this wavelength are approximately 6 dB/m for a MOF with a 2.2 mu m diameter core. The effective area of a particular fiber is 3.5 mu m(2) and the nonlinear coefficient is calculated to be 437 W(-1)km(-1). By pumping a 20 cm long fiber at 1.56 mu m with a sub-nj femtosecond laser source, we generate a supercontinuum (SC) spanning over 800 nm in the 1-2 mu m wavelength range.

Tellurites fibers for infrared supercontinuum sources : opto-geometric profiles and extrinsic absorptions management

2016

This PhD thesis work focuses on the synthesis and purification of vitreous materials used for the development of waveguides with varied profiles, dedicated to supercontinuum (SC) generation between 1 and 5 μm.Concerning the purification of tellurite glasses, several leads were followed, but best results are obtained for the purification of the TeO2-ZnO-Na2O glassy system by the means of zinc fluoride. Attenuation measurements performed on several meter-long single-index fiber samples reveal the nearly complete elimination of water-related absorptions between 3 and 4 μm (OH ions concentration lower than 1 ppm mass.). Such water-purified glasses were firstly dedicated to microstructured optic…

Fibres optiques à coeur supendu en verre d'oxyde de tellure et génération d'effets non linéaires dans l'infrarouge au-delà de 2 microns

2012

The work reported in this thesis deals with the fabrication of suspended core tellurite microstructured optical fibers (MOFs) for supercontinuum generation beyond 2 µm. In order to reach our aim, we first studied thermal and optical properties of TeO2-ZnO-R2O and TeO2-WO3-R2O (where R = Li, Na and K) glasses. The glass 80TeO2-10ZnO-10Na2O (molar %) has been chosen in order to make MOFs for characterization of the generated non linear optical effects. Synthesis performed under dry and oxidative atmosphere allowed us to reduce the hydroxyl groups concentration by a factor of 30 compared to fabrication in air atmosphere. Use of dehydrating agents (ZnF2 and TeCl4) allowed to reduce again the OH…

Mutations in KATNB1 Cause Complex Cerebral Malformations by Disrupting Asymmetrically Dividing Neural Progenitors

2014

SummaryExome sequencing analysis of over 2,000 children with complex malformations of cortical development identified five independent (four homozygous and one compound heterozygous) deleterious mutations in KATNB1, encoding the regulatory subunit of the microtubule-severing enzyme Katanin. Mitotic spindle formation is defective in patient-derived fibroblasts, a consequence of disrupted interactions of mutant KATNB1 with KATNA1, the catalytic subunit of Katanin, and other microtubule-associated proteins. Loss of KATNB1 orthologs in zebrafish (katnb1) and flies (kat80) results in microcephaly, recapitulating the human phenotype. In the developing Drosophila optic lobe, kat80 loss specificall…

Vengo a vivere da te. Enclavi/exclavi: l''altro' e il rapporto con lo spazio urbano

2019

Among the factors involved in the development of individual personalities, the space, and especially home, is certainly the most significant one. The destabilization of the concept of home as a nest, and the consequent sense of belonging to it, find in the texts of migrant writers a new centrality, telling about others perspectives and imaginary with respect to the dominant one. Often forced to confine themselves in enclaves that exclude them from the territory of the natives, immigrants are driven to transform these spaces into exclusive places of their supportive diversity.
