Tooth discoloration and internal bleaching after the use of ledermix paste with various bleaching agents ? An in vitro study
2018
Background To assess the reversal of discolouration caused by Ledermix using various bleaching agents. Material and Methods Twenty six extracted human mandibular premolars were taken and divided into four groups. Six teeth were divided into three each which are taken as positive and negative controls. The remaining twenty are divided into two groups (n=10). After conventional access preparation, the Ledermix paste was sealed in the pulp chamber for twelve weeks. The paste was removed by a rinse with sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl). Then the pulp chamber was sealed with a mixture of Sodium perborate and distilled water for group 1 and group 2 was sealed with Sodium tetraborate for 1 to 12 weeks.…
IS evolution benefit assessment: Challenges with economic investment criteria
2007
Maintenance and system evolution activities have a significant role in the information system (IS) life cycle. It has been estimated that approximately 80% of the total IT expenses are allocated for maintenance activities [20]. According to Lehman’s first law, maintenance is necessary, because software needs to be continuously improved or it will get out of date and cannot respond to the requirements of its environment [19]. Despite the importance of IS evolution investments, there is a gap between the IT related costs and company profitability [27]. Brynjolfssen [10] described this as a productivity paradox: information technology utilization has increased since the 70’s but simultaneously…
Using a neural network for qualitative and quantitative predictions of weld integrity in solid bonding dominated processes
2014
Solid-state bonding occurs in several manufacturing processes, as Friction Stir Welding, Porthole Die Extrusion and Roll Bonding. Proper conditions of pressure, temperature, strain and strain rate are needed in order to get effective bonding in the final component. In the paper, a neural network is set up, trained and used to predict the bonding occurrence starting from the results of specific numerical models developed for each process. The Plata-Piwnik criterion was used in order to define a quantitative parameter taking into account the effectiveness of the bonding. Excellent predictive capability of the network is obtained for each process.
Analytical bonding criteria for joint integrity prediction in friction stir welding of aluminum alloys
2014
Abstract In this study, two bonding criteria, previously used for porthole die extrusion, are applied to FSW starting from the local value of the main field variables calculated through a specifically developed 3D numerical model of the process. Their applicability and effectiveness have been assessed through an experimental and numerical campaign carried out with the main process parameters varying in a wide range. The pressure–time–flow criterion was demonstrated to be better suited for FSW processes when large welding speed is used.
Būvizstrādājumu aprites tiesiskais regulējums.
2019
Influence of M23C6 carbides on the heterogeneous strain development in annealed 420 stainless steel
2020
Understanding the local strain enhancement and lattice distortion resulting from different microstructure features in metal alloys is crucial in many engineering processes. The development of heterogeneous strain not only plays an important role in the work hardening of the material but also in other processes such as recrystallization and damage inheritance and fracture. Isolating the contribution of precipitates to the development of heterogeneous strain can be challenging due to the presence of grain boundaries or other microstructure features that might cause ambiguous interpretation. In this work a statistical analysis of local strains measured by electron back scatter diffraction and …
A review of the biological and pharmacological activities of saponins.
1996
Summary This paper reviews the important biological and pharmacological activities of saponins reported over the last few years. These include cancer-related activity, as well as antiphlogistic and antiallergic, immunomodulating, antihepatotoxic, antiviral, hypoglycemic, antifungal and molluscicidal activities. The action of saponins on the cardiovascular, central nervous, and endocrine systems and other miscellaneous effects are also discussed.
Solid-state compatibility of Ca:LaNbO4 with perovskite cathodes: Evidences from X-ray microspectroscopy
2022
The solid-state compatibility between calcium-doped lanthanum niobate and three perovskite cathode materials was investigated using two X-ray microbeam techniques, micro X-ray fluorescence and micro X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The cathode powders (lanthanum strontium ferrite, either cobalt or copper-doped, and lanthanum strontium cobaltite) in contact with the dense electrolyte pellet were annealed at 1150 degrees C for 12-144 h to simulate the effect of thermal stresses due to fabrication and long-term operation. As a result, several interdiffusion phenomena were then observed on the bilayer cross-sections: in particular, the chemical state and coordination environment of calcium, iron,…
Four new triterpene saponins from Bupleurum rigidum L.
2018
Abstract Four previously undescribed triterpene saponins (1-4) were isolated from the EtOH/H2O extract of the aerial parts of Bupleurum rigidum, together with a known structural analogue. Their structures were elucidated by analysis of 1D-(1H, 13C) and 2D-NMR (1H-1H COSY, TOCSY, ROESY, HSQC, HMBC) spectroscopic data and mass spectrometry (ESI- and HR-ESI-MS) and by comparison with those of related metabolites. An unusual structure was characterized as 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-[ β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 3)]- β-D-fucopyranosyl-21-O-β-D-glucoyranosyl-3β,16β,21β,23-tetrahydroxy-13,28-epoxyolean-11-ene (1). The three other compounds shared the same sugar sequence as 1 and differed by the st…
Role of sodium nitrite on phospholipid composition of cooked cured ham. Relation to its flavor
1997
Abstract The role of sodium nitrite on phospholipid composition was studied during the processing of cooked cured ham. Evolution of the different classes of phospholipids in raw meat, cured meat with brine injected at 0, 50 and 100 mg of sodium nitrite/kg meat, and cooked meat, was determined as well as fatty acid content of phosphatidyl choline and phosphatidyl ethanolamine in raw and cooked meat. The major effect of sodium nitrite was observed on phosphatidyl ethanolamine whose content was significantly lowered in the presence of this salt. This effect was observed at the end of the curing process and was not modified by the cooking. The fatty acid content between raw meat and cooked cure…
