Robust stationary entanglement of two coupled qubits in independent environments

2009

The dissipative dynamics of two interacting qubits coupled to independent reservoirs at nonzero temperatures is investigated, paying special attention to the entanglement evolution. The counter-rotating terms in the qubit-qubit interaction give rise to stationary entanglement, traceable back to the ground state structure. The robustness of this entanglement against thermal noise is thoroughly analyzed, establishing that it can be detected at reasonable experimental temperatures. Some effects linked to a possible reservoir asymmetry are brought to light.

Generation of robust entangled states in a non-hermitian periodically driven two-band Bose-Hubbard system

2016

A many-body Wannier-Stark system coupled to an effective reservoir is studied within a non-Hermitian approach in the presence of a periodic driving. We show how the interplay of dissipation and driving dynamically induces a subspace of states which are very robust against dissipation. We numerically probe the structure of these asymptotic states and their robustness to imperfections in the initial-state preparation and to the size of the system. Moreover, the asymptotic states are found to be strongly entangled making them interesting for further applications.

DarkFocus: numerical autofocusing in digital in-line holographic microscopy using variance of computational dark-field gradient

2020

Abstract We report on a novel computational technique for automatic numerical refocusing in digital in-line holographic microscopy. It is based on the adaptive filtering of the recorded on-axis hologram to eliminate its background term and extract interference intensity-component connected with light scattered on the sample (interference fringes). Numerical propagation of such filtered hologram yields the computationally generated dark-field imaging coming from the amplitude part of the complex field. We propose a simple measure in the form of the variance of the dark-field gradient, which attains its maximum value in the focal planes for all types of objects (phase, amplitude and mixed pha…

Phase joint transform sequential correlator for nonlinear binary correlations

2005

We study the performance of nonlinear optical correlations using a joint transform correlator that operates in phase-only spatial light modulation at input joint transform plane. Amplitude input nonlinear optical time sequential correlations have shown better discrimination and noise robustness than conventional linear correlations. Those nonlinear correlations are based on decomposing the reference and the target into binary slices and to add the contribution of all linear correlations between them. Those correlations can be easily implemented using a conventional joint transform correlator. However, the system has poor efficiency and low cross-correlation peak intensity, mainly because of…

Improving SIFT-based descriptors stability to rotations

2010

Image descriptors are widely adopted structures to match image features. SIFT-based descriptors are collections of gradient orientation histograms computed on different feature regions, commonly divided by using a regular Cartesian grid or a log-polar grid. In order to achieve rotation invariance, feature patches have to be generally rotated in the direction of the dominant gradient orientation. In this paper we present a modification of the GLOH descriptor, a SIFT-based descriptor based on a log-polar grid, which avoids to rotate the feature patch before computing the descriptor since predefined discrete orientations can be easily derived by shifting the descriptor vector. The proposed des…

Application of Molecular Topology to the Prediction of Water Quality Indices of Alkylphenol Pollutants

2011

In this paper, topological-mathematical models based on multilineal regression analysis have been built as a model of the degradability of 26 alkylphenols through the Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Biochemical Oxigen Demand (BOD5). Two models with three-variable were selected (r2= 0.8793 and q2=0.8075 for log(1/COD) and r2= 0.8928 and q2=0.8327 for log(1/BOD5). The models were validated by cross-validation, internal validation and randomization tests. The results, which stand in good accordance with the obtained results, confirm the robustness of the method.

Next generation diagnostic algorithm in non-small cell lung cancer predictive molecular pathology: The KWAY Italian multicenter cost evaluation study

2022

Abstract Aims The KWAY project aims to investigate the economic sustainability of the up-front NGS technologies adoption in the analysis of clinically relevant molecular alterations in NSCLC patients. Methods The diagnostic workflow and the related sustained costs of five Italian referral centers were assessed in four different evolving scenarios were analyzed. For each scenario, two alternative testing strategies were evaluated: the Maximized Standard strategy and the Maximized NGS strategy. Results For each center, the robustness of obtained results was verified through a deterministic sensitivity analysis, observing the variation of total costs based on a variation of ±20 % of the input …

Learning Behavioral Rules from Multi-Agent Simulations for Optimizing Hospital Processes

2021

Hospital processes are getting more and more complex, starting from the creation of therapy plans over intra-hospital transportation up to the coordination of patients and staff members. In this paper, multi-agent simulations will be used to optimize the coordination of different kinds of individuals (like patients and doctors) in a hospital process. But instead of providing results in form of optimized schedules, here, behavioral rules for the different individuals will be learned from the simulations, that can be exploited by the individuals to optimize the overall process. As a proof-of-concept, the approach will be demonstrated in different variants of a hospital optimization scenario, …

Guanxi, trust and reward-based crowdfunding success: a Chinese case

2019

Purpose This paper aims to examine different hypotheses concerning the effects of guanxi on the reward-based crowdfunding project fundraising. Specifically, this study provides new insights into how guanxi and guanxi intensity may affect reward-based crowdfunding success and project performance in the Chinese context. Design/methodology/approach The research data including 989 crowdfunding projects were collected from zhongchou.com which is the largest reward-based crowdfunding platform in a one-year period (2014.1-2014.12). The hypotheses are tested by using robust OLS regressions and robust logistic regressions. Robustness check was also conducted to test the validation of the results. F…
