Romanikerjäläiset muodostavat sekä Suomessa että muualla Euroopassa syvälle ja laajalle ulottuvan yhteiskunnallisen kysymyksen, jonka monimutkaisuus juontuu osaltaan romanikansan raskaasta historiasta. Tässä tutkimuksessa lähestyn romanikerjäläisiä koskevaa keskustelua tulkitsemalla visuaalista aineistoa. Selvitän ensinnäkin sitä, miten romanikerjäläisiä esitetään sanomalehtikuvissa. This is an introduction to a compilation of six articles on language ideologies in the Romanian Banat. My dissertation was initiated by fieldwork in the area, resulting to a database of interviews among the Hungarian and German inhabitants. This data is compared to intellectual writings. With regards to researcher position, I identify myself as a traveler in the area and as a foreign scholar. The analytical framework of this study draws from the study of Language Ideologies and Conversation Analysis.Here, language ideologies are broadly defined as metalinguistic discourse or talk about language. Representations of the Life-giving Spring feast in Romanian iconography

This article explores the development of the theme of the Life-giving Spring in Byzantine iconography. The path towards its establishment was initiated at the moment when a representation rule, an original convention was set. Thereafter, because of its diffusion in time and space, the theme became enriched by particular mentalities and sensibilities of the epochs and the communities that adopted it as a form of devotion for the Virgin Theotokos.
