Physicochemical properties of vanilla and raspberry aromas microencapsulated in the industrial conditions by spray drying

International audience; Physicochemical properties of powdered vanilla and raspberry complex aromas obtained on industrial conditions by spray drying were investigated. Powders had low water content and activity, promoting long shelf‐life. Aroma retention was lower for vanilla flavors. Raspberry powdered flavors had poorer flowability, lower bulk density, lower particle size, and higher Tg. Additionally, physicochemical properties of powders from various locations of spray dryer (cyclone container/chamber) were compared—powders from the cyclone had higher water content and activity, but the flowability was not affected by collection place. Differential staining of peripheral nuclear chromatin with Acridine orange implies an A-form epichromatin conformation of the DNA

ABSTRACT The chromatin observed by conventional electron microscopy under the nuclear envelope constitutes a single layer of dense 30–35 nm granules, while ∼30 nm fibrils laterally attached to them, form large patches of lamin-associated domains (LADs). This particular surface “epichromatin” can be discerned by specific (H2A+H2B+DNA) conformational antibody at the inner nuclear envelope and around mitotic chromosomes. Somatic loss of an EXT2 gene mutation during malignant progression in a patient with hereditary multiple osteochondromas

Multiple osteochondromas (MO) is an autosomal-dominant skeletal disorder caused by mutations in the exostosin-1 ( EXT1 ) or exostosin-2 ( EXT2 ) genes. In this study, we report the analysis of the mutational status of the EXT2 gene in tumor samples derived from a patient affected by hereditary MO, documenting the somatic loss of the germline mutation in a giant chondrosarcoma and in a rapidly growing osteochondroma. The sequencing of all exons and exon–intron junctions of the EXT1 and EXT2 genes from blood DNA of the proband did not reveal any mutation in the EXT1 gene but did demonstrate the presence of the transition point mutation c.67C > T in the EXT2 gene, determining the introduction …

Central odontogenic fibroma: retrospective study of 8 clinical cases

Introduction and Objectives: The central odontogenic fibroma (COF) is a benign odontogenic tumour derived from the dental mesenchymal tissues. It is a rare tumour and only 70 cases of it have been published. Bearing in mind the rareness of the tumour, 8 new cases of central odontogenic fibroma have been found by analyzing the clinical, radiological and histopathological characteristics of COF. Diagonal ear lobe crease and atherosclerosis : a review of the medical literature and dental implications

In Spain a significant number of individuals die from atherosclerotic disease of the coronary and carotid arteries without having classic risk factors and prodromal symptoms. The diagonal ear lobe crease (DELC) has been characterized in the medical literature as a surrogate marker which can identify high risk patients having occult atherosclerosis. This topic however has not been examined in either the medical or dental literature emanating from Spain. Cutinases (EC 3.1.1.74) are serin esterases that belong to the α/β hydrolases superfamily and present in the Ser-His-Asp catalytic triad. They show characteristics between esterases and lipases. These enzymes hydrolyze esters and triacylglycerols and catalyze esterification and transesterification reactions. Cutinases are synthesize by plant pathogenic fungi, but some bacteria and plants have been found to produce cutinases as well. A novel method for determination of inorganic polyphosphates using the fluorescent dye fura-2.

A method for determining inorganic polyphosphate, which is based on the Mn2+-induced quenching of the fluorescence of the calcium indicator fura-2, is described. The effect of Mn2+ ions on fura-2 fluorescence is gradually abolished in the presence of increasing concentrations of polyphosphate; this allows the quantification both of synthetic polyphosphates and of the naturally occurring polymer isolated from tissues or cells. The described method has some advantages compared to conventional procedures for detection of polyphosphates based on the metachromatic effect on toluidine blue.
