On-line commissioning of SHIPTRAP
2006
Abstract The on-line commissioning of the Penning-trap mass spectrometer SHIPTRAP was successfully completed with a mass measurement of holmium and erbium radionuclides produced at SHIP. A large fraction of contaminant ions created in the stopping cell was identified to originate from the buffer-gas supply system. Using a liquid nitrogen cold trap they were reduced to a tolerable amount and mass measurements of Er 147 , Er 148 , and Ho 147 with relative uncertainties of about 1 × 1 0 − 6 were performed.
Direct mass measurements and ionization potential measurements of the actinides
2019
Abstract The precise determination of atomic and nuclear properties such as masses, differential charge radii, nuclear spins, electromagnetic moments and the ionization potential of the actinides has been extended to the late actinides in recent years. In particular, laser spectroscopy and mass spectrometry have reached the region of heavy actinides that can only be produced only at accelerator facilities. The new results provide deeper insight into the impact of relativistic effects on the atomic structure and the evolution of nuclear shell effects around the deformed neutron shell closure at N = 152. All these experimental activities have also opened the door to extend such measurements t…
Measurement of the laser resonance ionization efficiency for lutetium
2019
Abstract The development of a highly efficient resonance ionization scheme for lutetium is presented. A laser ion source, based on the all-solid-state Titanium:sapphire laser system, was used at the 30 keV RISIKO off-line mass separator to characterize different possible optical excitation schemes in respect to their ionization efficiency. The developed laser resonance ionization scheme can be directly applied to the use at radioactive ion beam facilities, e. g. at the CERN-MEDICIS facility, for large-scale production of medical radioisotopes.
A novel MALDI-MS approach for the analysis of neutral metallosupramolecular architectures
2011
Matrix assisted laser desorption/ionisation mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS) methods have been developed for the characterisation of neutral [2×2] metallogrids derived fromdiimine, dihydrazone and diacylhydrazone ligands. Such grids may be protonated in solution to give cationic species but in most cases these are labile, so that rather delicate conditions are required for observation of the intact metallogrids as monoprotonated derivatives in the gas phase. As a MALDI matrix, 2,4,6-trihydroxyacetophenone (THAP) is sufficiently acidic to enable monoprotonation of the grids unaccompanied by dissociation, and if the grid sample is initially deposited by a layering technique to avoid any prelimina…
Exploring the Chemoselectivity towards Cysteine Arylation by Cyclometallated Au III Compounds: New Mechanistic Insights
2020
To gain more insight into the factors controlling the efficient cysteine arylation by cyclometalated Au(III) complexes, the reaction between selected gold compounds and different peptides was investigated by high‐resolution liquid chromatography electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HR‐LC‐ESI‐MS). The deducted mechanisms of C–S cross‐coupling, also supported by density functional theory (DFT) and quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) calculations, evidenced the key role of secondary peptidic gold binding sites in favouring the process of reductive elimination.

New soluble and intensely near-IR-absorbing transition metal (Ti, Zr, V, Ni) complexes were synthesized using a redox non-innocent N,N’-bis(3,5-di-tertbutyl-2-hydroxy-phenyl) -1,2-phenylenediamine (H4L) as a ligand precursor. In all the complexes, ([Ti(Lox)2, [Zr(Lox)2], [V(Lsq1)(HLox)] and [Ni(HLox)2], two organic molecules coordinate to the metal center as tri- or tetradentate ligands. The solid-state structures of the complexes were determined using single crystal XRD, and the compounds were further characterized with Electrospray Ionisation Mass Spectrometry (ESI-MS). Thermoanalytical measurements indicated the thermal stabilities of the complexes. All compounds absorb strongly in the n…
Diferratricarbaboranes of thesubcloso-[(η5-C5H5)2Fe2C3B8H11] Type, the First Representatives of the 13-Vertex Dimetallatricarbaborane Series
2003
Treatment of the [2-Cp-9-tBuNH-closo-2,1,7,9-FeC 3 B 8 H 1 0 ] (1) ferratricarbollide (Cp = η 5 -C 5 H 5 -) with Na + C 1 0 H 8 - in 1,2-dimethoxyethane (DME) at room temperature produced an air-sensitive transient anion with a tentatively identified nido-[tBUNH-CpFeC 3 B 8 H 1 0 ] 2 - constitution. In-situ reaction of this low-stability ion with [CpFe(CO) 2 I] or [CpFe(CO) 2 ] 2 generated three violet diferratricarbaboranes identified as paramagnetic subcloso complexes [4,5-Cp 2 - -4,5,1,6,7-Fe 2 C 3 B 8 H 1 1 ] (2; yield 2%), [4,5-Cp 2 - -4,5,1,7,12-Fe 2 C 3 B 8 H 1 1 ] (3; yield 2%), and [7-tBuNH-4,5-Cp 2 - -4,5,1,7,12-Fe 2 C 3 B 8 H 1 0 ] (4; yield 14%). These first representatives of t…

2009
Abstract Reaction of the dimeric hydroxo di-n-butylstannane trifluoromethanesulfonato complex [n-Bu2Sn(μ-OH)(H2O)0.5(η1-O3SCF3)]2 (1) with phenazine (C12H8N2, Phz) (2) in dichloromethane at room temperature in a 1:3 molar ratio yielded the novel two-dimensional organometallic coordination polymer 2 ∞ { [ n - Bu 2 ( μ -OH ) SnOSn ( μ - η 2 - O 3 SCF 3 ) n - Bu 2 ] 2 [ n - Bu 2 ( μ -OH ) SnOSn ( η 1 - O 3 SCF 3 ) n - Bu 2 ] 2 } (3), together with the phenazinium trifluoromethanesulfonate salt [C12H9N2]+ [CF3SO3]−, crystallographically isolated in two different structural arrangements, free 4 and in π–π aromatic stacking interaction with independent intercalated non-protonated phenazine molecu…
Studies on the Reduction of [(C 5 Me 5 ) 2 Mo 2 O 5 ] in Methanol/Water/Acetate Solutions by On‐Line Electrochemical Flowcell and Electrospray Mass S…
2003
The complex [Cp*2Mo2O5] (Cp* = η5-C5Me5) and its electrochemical reduction products in acetic acid/acetate-buffered (pH = 4.0) water/methanol solutions were investigated by combined electrochemical (EC) flowcell and on-line electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). Mono-, di-, tri-, and tetranuclear organometallic molybdenum oxides were identified in the starting solution. The effect of the relevant ESI-MS parameters (ionic mode, heated capillary voltage, and heated capillary temperature) and of the concentration on the observed distribution of ions in the mass spectrometer was studied in order to minimize side reactions in the ESI chamber. It was verified that reduction in the ES…
