Fruit quality and volatile fraction of ‘Pink Lady’ apple trees in response to rootstock vigor and partial rootzone drying

BACKGROUND: Partial rootzone drying (PRD) is a novel deficit irrigation technique consisting in the alternated wetting of only one side of the rootzone, which induces partial stomatal closure and increased water use efficiency. The effect of PRD and rootstock vigor on ‘Pink Lady’ apple fruit quality and aroma profile was studied using solid-phase micro-extraction in headspace and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. RESULTS: PRD irrigation generally did not affect quality attributes, whereas it influenced the aroma of the apple fruit. In particular, PRD improved the aroma of the fruit flesh, while it decreased the volatile fraction in the peel, where most of the compounds are concentrated.…

Batsch.), is native to arid regions of central Asia and may possess traits valuable for improving drought tolerance of commercial peach varieties. Inner Areas between theories and practices. An ongoing laboratory

The contribution proposes a reflection on the laboratories that are being formed in inner areas, and in which universities and researchers play a central role both from a technical point of view and in the advancement of theoretical reflection. The article is structured in four parts: it starts with a framework on inner areas as a place of fragility and opportunity, it moves on to the laboratory dimension that is triggered in the relationship with institutions, such as the university. It concludes with a reflection on the rooting dimension that the laboratory engenders in a territory.

Transpiration rates and hydraulic conductance of two olive genotypes with different sensitivity to drought

Although some mechanisms of leaf dehydration tolerance are known in olive (Olea europaea L.), insights on adjustments in stem and root hydraulic conductance (K) in response to drought are yet to be explored. This work investigated transpiration mechanisms and K regulations in two olive genotypes showing different sensitivity to drought stress. This paper examines early inflectional morphology related to the tense-aspect system of Proto-Indo-European. It will be argued that historical linguistics can shed light on the long-standing debate over the emergence of tense-aspect morphology in language acquisition. Oleanolic acid and hederagenin glycosides from Weigela stelzneri

Structural determination of the lipo-chitin oligosaccharide nodulation signals produced by Rhizobium giardinii bv. giardinii H152

Abstract Rhizobium giardinii bv. giardinii is a microsymbiont of plants of the genus Phaseolus and produces extracellular signal molecules that are able to induce deformation of root hairs and nodule organogenesis. We report here the structures of seven lipochitooligosaccharide (LCO) signal molecules secreted by R. giardinii bv. giardinii H152. Six of them are pentamers of GlcNAc carrying C 16:0 , C 18:0 , C 20:0 and C 18:1 fatty acyl chains on the non-reducing terminal residue.
