Evaluation of Cyclic Fatigue of Hyflex EDM, Twisted Files, and ProTaper Gold Manufactured with Different Processes: An In Vitro Study.

2021

Introduction. The main aims of root canal instrumentation are to provide an environment that will lead to healing and to provide a root canal shape that is comfortable to clean and seal. When working with rotary endodontic instruments, the most significant concerns are that the instrument might fracture in the root canal, thus affecting the treatment outcome. Hence, it is of immense importance to know which file systems have more cyclic fatigue resistance. Methodology. This study evaluated the effect of the curved segment length of the artificial canal (the arch), and the number of cycles necessary in fracture of Hyflex EDM, Twisted files, and ProTaper Gold were recorded. Sixty NiTi rotary …

Influence of Instrument Size on the Accuracy of Different Apex Locators: An In Vitro Study

2008

The aim of this in vitro investigation was to determine the accuracy of 4 different electronic apex locators (EALs) with 3 different instrument sizes. For this study 146 roots were embedded in an agar solution. Electronic measurements were made to the physiologic foramen (apical constriction) with the Elements Apex Locator, Justy II, Raypex 5, and ProPex II and K-type files sizes 08, 10, and 15. Statistical significances were calculated with the sign test (P < .001). Exact measurements to the physiologic foramen were made with the Elements Apex Locator, 36.99%, 39.04%, and 44.93%; Justy II, 38.62%, 32.41%, and 43.41%; Raypex 5, 42.76%, 39.31%, and 39.06%; and ProPex II, 38.62%, 43.45%, and …

Dimensional variability of nonstandardized greater taper finger spreaders with matching gutta-percha points

2001

Aim The purpose of this research was to determine the compatibility and dimensional variability between nonstandardized gutta-percha points and matching finger spreaders. Methodology The diameters of nonstandardized gutta-percha points (n = 15) and matching finger spreaders (n = 15) from different manufacturers (Kerr, Dentsply Maillefer, Vereignigte Dentalwerke and Roeko) were determined and statistically analysed using a profile projector under a magnification of 50 × (±0.002 mm). Results The dimensions of the finger spreaders and gutta-percha cones were inconsistent. Of the 29 groups of nonstandardized gutta-percha cones evaluated, 22 had standard deviations larger than 0.020 at D1. The s…

Komparativno istraživanje oblikovanja četiriju rotirajućih sustava

2015

Svrha: U ovom istraživanju analizirali smo rezno područje, vrijeme instrumentacije, održavanje anatomije korijenskog kanala i neinstrumentirana područja dobivena korištenjem instrumenata F360®, Mtwo®, RaCe® i Hyflex® u ISO veličini 35. Vrijeme inst…

Gingival recession associated with Orthodontic treatment and root coverage

2010

Many patients seek to pursue orthodontic treatment for esthetic improvement. These patients present with mal- alignment of the anterior teeth. There was strong correlation between the severity and extent of gingival recessions and past orthodontic treatment, it was suggested that orthodontic tooth movement may lead to gingival recession. The principal objective in the treatment of gingival recession is to cover the exposed root surfaces to improve es- thetics and to reduce hypersensitivity. Different soft tissue grafting procedures have been proposed in the treatment of gingival recessions. Free gingival grafts (FGG) are a reliable method for treatment of gingival recessions: An autograft i…

Effects of piezocision in orthodontic tooth movement : a systematic review of comparative studies

2019

Background The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the effects of piezocision in accelerating orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) and its possible adverse effects. Material and methods The Databases Medline, Embase, CENTRAL and LILACS were searched until March 2019, for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and controlled clinical trials (CCTs) that used piezocision associated with orthodontic treatment. A manual search was also performed. The search, studies selection, assessment of risk of bias and data collection were carried out by two independent reviewers. Results Eleven publications were included in this review (4 CCTs and 7 RCTs). No study presented low risk of bias. Different …

Micro-computed tomographic evaluation of dentinal defects after root canal preparation with hyflex edm and vortex blue rotary systems

2018

Background To evaluate the incidence of dentinal microcracks formation after root canal shaping procedures with HyFlex EDM and Vortex Blue rotary systems comparing with that of hand instrumentation using micro-computed tomography. Material and methods Mandibular first molar teeth (n=60) having 50 to 200mesial root curvature were scanned using high resolution micro-CT imaging before root canal preparation to identify the presence of dentinal defects. Post-instrumentation cross-sectional images were taken and increased number and type of root defects were assessed and recorded. The data was statistically analysed by using chi-square test and McNemar's test at a significance level of 5%. Resul…

Radiographic Investigation of Frequency and Location of Root Canal Curvatures in Human Mandibular Anterior Incisors In Vitro

2007

The aim of the present in vitro study was to evaluate the degree and location of root canal curvatures of mandibular anterior incisors. A total of 396 extracted human permanent anterior incisors (248 central and 148 lateral) were included in this investigation. Exclusion criteria were teeth with extensive carious lesions, restorations, and root canal treatment. The specimens were fixed in a special device and digitally x-rayed (Heliodent MD; Sirona, Benzheim, Germany; Merlin 2.1, Olympus/PerkinElmer, Waltham, MA) with the parallel technique. The distances from the cementoenamel junction (CEJ) to the first curvatures as well as the according angles were recorded. The results were analyzed de…

Microstructure alterations of rotary files after multiple simulated operative procedures.

2009

Aim: To assess morphological alterations of ProTaper rotary NiTi files before and after continuous use by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Study Design: 30 root canals were chosen with an angle between 15 and 30º. Before starting to prepare the canals the files were observed microscopically using a scanning electronic microscope. The ProTaper sequence recommended by the manufacturer was used, with NaOCl as irrigant. The instruments were sterilised after every three canals were shaped. The instruments were observed with the same microscope after shaping each canal, until 30 root canals were shaped. The criteria used for checking the instruments were: blunt cutting edges, disruption of cut…
