Fingernails - foreign objects in root canal: a case report
2011
Foreign objects in the pulp chamber or root canal are not unusual findings in patients undergoing root canal treatments in which canals have been left open for drainage. Detailed case history, clinical and radiographic examinations are necessary to come to a conclusion about the nature, size, location of the foreign body and difficulty involved in its retrieval. This kind of situation is more likely to occur in children due to their habit of placing foreign objects in the mouth. The foreign objects may act as a potential source of infection and may later lead to a painful condition. Reported here is an unusual case of metallic pin along with multiple nail pieces retrieved from root canal of…
Nursery and field evaluation of eggplant grafted onto unrooted cuttings of Solanum torvum Sw.
2014
Abstract Solanum torvum is the eggplant ( Solanum melongena ) relative most commonly used for grafting even if the nursery production of eggplants grafted onto this rootstock has some issues related to its long, irregular and erratic germination and slow growth and development of seedlings. Unrooted cuttings harvested from stock plants could be an alternative propagation material to obtain S. torvum rootstocks and might allow to overcome nursery production issues for eggplant. The aim of this work was to evaluate eggplant suitability to be propagated by unrooted grafted cuttings using S. torvum as rootstock and the influence of this propagation technique on plant yield and fruit quality. A …
Common and Domain-specific Metamodel Elements for Problem Description in Simulation Problems
2014
It is well known that the multi-agent system paradigm is well suited for modelling and developing simulations of complex systems belonging to several application domains. Simulation study aims at developing simulation models useful for representing, studying and analyzing entities and their behavior in a system according to specific purposes. With our work we are trying to understand what are the right elements to be considered and included in the description of a simulation problem. In order to root our resulting metamodel in the state of the art of multi-agent simulations we started from the study of twelve papers dealing with four different application domains: Crowd Dynamics, Traffic an…
Comparative evaluation of anti microbial effects of triple antibiotic paste and amox and its derivatives against E. Faecalis : an in vitro study
2017
Background Enterococcus faecalis is a microorganism commonly detected in asymptomatic, persistent endodontic infections. Triple antibiotic paste has stood the test of time as a proven antibiotic combination against E. Faecalis. However, problems with this include staining of teeth and standardization of the preparation. Thus, the search for better alternatives and better preparation techniques is still on. Aim To observe the potential of combinations [(Amoxicillin+ Metronidazole, Amoxicillin Clavulanic Acid + Metronidazole; Amoxicillin and Cloxacillin + Metronidazole)] over Triple Antibiotic Paste. Material and methods Fifty single rooted teeth free from dental caries were selected for the …
EFFECT OF DIFFERENT ROOTSTOCKS ON VEGETATIVE GROWTH OF JAPANESE AND EUROPEAN PLUM CULTIVARS IN SOUTHERN ITALY: PRELIMINARY RESULTS
2007
The preliminary results of a new rootstock trial for Japanese and European plum cultivars are reported. Two clonal Prunus cerasifera ('Myrobalan 29C' and 'MrS 2/5'), two Prunus domestica ('Penta' and 'Tetra') and the peach × almond 'GF 677' were tested in a warm and dry climate of Southern Italy where the plum industry is recently increasing, particularly for the Japanese type. 'GF 677' showed the most vigorous habit together with a higher production at the first bearing year in comparison with 'Myrobalan 29C', while the two P. domestica types resulted in very low vigour. This result was more evident and statistically significant with the Japanese plum cultivar, whereas very low differences…
Distribution of YLOID in soil-grapevine system (Vitis vinifera L.) as tool for geographical characterization of agro-food products. A two years case …
2017
The knowledge of a chemistry relationship between the soil and the agricultural products is an important tool for the quality assessment of food. We studied YLOID (Y, La and lanthanoids), recognized as very useful tracers due their coherent and predictable behavior, to trace and evaluate their distribution from soil to the grape in Vitis vinifera L. Because much of the world’s viticulture is based on grafting, and rootstocks have proved affect vine growth, yield, fruit and wine quality, we carried out experimental trials to analyse the YLOID distribution of two different red cultivars, grafted onto six different rootstocks, on the same soil. The YLOID amounts, the relationship Heavy vs Ligh…
An assessment method for the quantification of Daktulosphaira vitifoliae (Fitch) (Hem., Phylloxeridae) populations in the field
2003
: Grape phylloxera is a plant parasite that has started to become a pest again in European viticulture in spite of the use of grafted rootstocks. Since the middle of the 1980s, there have been various reports of vine damage caused by phylloxera. It was shown that in some cases there is no direct correlation between the occurrence of phylloxera and vine damage. In this context, phytopathogenic microorganisms, especially fungi, are mentioned in literature. To investigate the possible interactions it is necessary to be able to assess phylloxera populations in the field, e.g. to correlate phylloxera abundance with the vigour of the vines. Because of the non-homogenous distribution of the grape…
Partial least squares-near infrared determination of pesticides in commercial formulations
2007
Abstract A solvent free, fast and environmentally friendly near infrared-based methodology (NIR) was developed for pesticide determination in commercially available formulations. This methodology was based on the direct measurement of the diffuse reflectance spectra of solid samples and a multivariate calibration model (partial least squares, PLS) to determine the active principle concentration in commercial formulations. The PLS calibration set was built on using the spiked samples by mixing different amounts of pesticide standards and powdered samples. Buprofezin, Diuron and Daminozide were used as test analytes. Concentration of Buprofezin in the samples was calculated employing a 4-fact…
An assessment of the BEST procedure to estimate the soil water retention curve: A comparison with the evaporation method
2018
The Beerkan Estimation of Soil Transfer parameters (BEST) procedure is an attractive, easy, robust, and inexpensive way for a complete soil hydraulic characterization but testing the ability of this procedure to estimate the water retention curve is necessary as relatively little information is available in the literature. In this investigation the soil water retention curve was predicted for four differently textured soils by applying three existing BEST algorithms (i.e., slope, intercept and steady) and the results compared with those measured by the standard Wind evaporation method. A sensitivity analysis of the infiltration constants, beta and gamma, was also carried out and their impac…
Influence of operator’s experience on the shaping and centering ability of WaveOne single-file system
2015
Aim. The aim of this study was to assess the influence of operator experience on the centering ability of WaveOne reciprocating system on S-shape simulated root canals. Methods. Forty S-shaped canals in resin blocks were assigned in two groups (n=20 for each group). Groups 1 was shaped by an expert operator, postgraduate in endodontics with more of ten years experience, while a not expert operator, a student in the last year of study, with poor endodontic experience performed shaping in Groups 2. A first survey of canals has been made with K-file 10 to assess the working length (WL), after that the glide path was achieved with PathFile 1, 2, and 3 (Dentsply Maillefer) at the WL. Subsequentl…
