Carbon-doped titania as a precursor for titanate nanotubes

2018

Carbon-doped titania was fabricated via carbothermal treatment in nitrogen–acetylene gas flow and further used as a precursor for multiwalled titanate nanotube (TNT) synthesis via alkaline hydrothermal route. Investigation of the reaction products after hydrothermal treatment of carbon-doped titania using Transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller method shows the successful formation of TNTs. The presence of carbon was proved although the type of incorporation could not be certified. All samples show approximately the same carbon content before and after hydrothermal treatment. An increasing pretreatment temperature of titania precursor powders yields m…

Luminescence Properties of ZnO Nanocrystals and Ceramics

2008

The luminescence excitation spectra, luminescence spectra and the nanosecond-scale decay kinetics were studied. The ZnO and ZnO:Al nanopowders were prepared by vaporization-condensation in a solar furnace using different raw powders: commercial, hydrothermal and those obtained by plasma synthesis. Exciton-phonon as well as exciton-exciton interaction processes in nanopowders, a bulk crystal and ZnO ceramics were studied and compared. The fast decay and low afterglow intensity of ZnO nanopowders and ceramics support these materials for scintillators.

Molecular and immunohistochemical analysis of the prognostic value of cell-cycle regulators in urothelial neoplasms of the bladder.

2006

Abstract Objective To evaluate the prognostic and predictive value of molecular and immunohistochemical markers related to cell-cycle control in terms of recurrence, progression, and survival in urothelial neoplasms of the bladder (UNB). Patients and Methods Clinical and pathological findings of 84 patients with UNB were assessed. Homozygous deletion (HD) and promoter methylation of p14 ARF , p15 INK4B , p16 INK4A , loss of heterozygosity of the locus 9p21, p53 mutations, and immunohistochemical expression of p53, p16, p14, p21, p27, pRb, Ki67, MDM2, and cyclin D1 proteins were evaluated in relation to overall survival (OS), recurrence-free survival (RFS), and progression-free survival (PFS…

Venous Thromboembolism Risk in Patients With Locoregional Urothelial Tract Tumors

2017

Data de publicació electrónica: 24-08-2017 BACKGROUND: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is common in cancer patients, but there is limited data on patients with urothelial tract tumors (UTT). We previously identified several associative factors for increased VTE rates in patients with metastatic UTT. In this study, we assessed the frequency, associative factors, and impact on survival of VTE in patients with locoregional UTT. METHODS: Patients with locoregional bladder, upper urinary tract, or urethral cancer were included in this multi-center study from 29 academic institutions. Patients with N1, or M1 disease at diagnosis were excluded. Patients with incomplete clinical staging or miscoded/mi…

Gold Nanoparticle-Assisted Virus Formation by Means of the Delivery of an Oncolytic Adenovirus Genome

2020

[EN] Oncolytic adenoviruses are a therapeutic alternative to treat cancer based on their ability to replicate selectively in tumor cells. However, their use is limited mainly by the neutralizing antibody (Nab) immune response that prevents repeated dosing. An alternative to facilitate the DNA access to the tumor even in the presence of anti-viral Nabs could be gold nanoparticles able to transfer DNA molecules. However, the ability of these nanoparticles to carry large DNA molecules, such as an oncolytic adenovirus genome, has not been studied. In this work, gold nanoparticles were functionalized with different amounts of polyethylenimine to transfer in a safe and efficient manner a large on…

Pythium glomeratum, a new species isolated from agricultural soil taken in north-eastern France, its ITS region and its comparison with related speci…

2003

Pythium glomeratum sp. nov. is described here. It was isolated from soil samples taken in the northern France in 1992, was wrongly identified as Pythium heterothallicum and was kept aside. Recently, the ITS region of the rDNA of this oomycete was amplified and sequenced. The differences between the sequence and a more detailed study of the morphological characters of these two species, revealed that both are related but different species. P. glomeratum is characterized by the presence of branched antheridia that wrap around the oogonia, aplerotic to almost plerotic oospores, and the lack of zoosporangia and zoospores. Taxonomical description of this new species, its comparison with related …

Linguistic Approach to Support Human Reliability Analysis and Validation Work in Advanced Radiotherapy Technologies

2019

An integrated methodology, that combines Hierarchical Task Analysis (HTA), Cognitive Task Analysis (CTA) and a modified Human Error Assessment and Reduction Technique (HEART), is proposed to identify safety-relevant human actions in innovative and advanced facilities. It is suggested to use in HEART the concept of linguistic expressions for proportion assessment factors. To prove its applicability, a case study is presented. The validation work has related to safety analyses of accidental events that can involve radiological over-exposure of patients during proton therapy treatments carried out by CATANA (Centro di AdroTerapia Applicazioni Nucleari Avanzate) centre, Italy. CATANA is the fir…
