Growing Like Germany: Local Public Debt, Local Banks, Low Private Investment
2021
The paper uses a panel of more than 1m German firms over 2010-2016, to provide the first firm-bank level evidence of local crowding out for a developed economy characterized by low interest rates and fiscal austerity. Our mechanism relies on two structural features of Germany's banking landscape: the local segmentation of credit markets for small and medium-sized firms (SME) and the role of local public banks in local public finance. Local public banks dominate lending to small and medium firms in Germany and also have an explicit mandate to lend to the local public sector. With spreads on local government debt at all-time lows, local public banks tried to break even, using their market pow…
‘To own or not to own?’ A study on the determinants and consequences of alternative intellectual property rights arrangements in crowdsourcing for in…
2018
Due to copyright restrictions, the access to the full text of this article is only available via subscription. Firms are increasingly engaging in crowdsourcing for innovation to access new knowledge beyond their boundaries; however, scholars are no closer to understanding what guides seeker firms in deciding the level at which to acquire rights from solvers and the effect that this decision has on the performance of crowdsourcing contests. Integrating property rights theory and the problem-solving perspective while leveraging exploratory interviews and observations, we build a theoretical framework to examine how specific attributes of the technical problem broadcast by firms affect the see…
Translating Migration in the Visual Arts: Calais Children and Project#RefugeeCameras as Collaborative Counter Narratives
2019
This study investigates the modalities through which the migrant crisis is portrayed in the creative artistic sector while accelerating the spread of political participatory and activist movements in the areas of subtitling and amateur translation. Participation and activism have stimulated the sphere of translation that has been acting as an important stimulus for the international mushrooming of artistic creativities on public spaces and digital platforms, and also for a different political and cultural reframing of the migrant crisis. 21 st -century mobility has made translation a crucial device for the negotiation of linguacultural transactions within cultural institutions, public space…
Crystal structure of diaqua[5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-methoxyphenyl)porphyrinato-κ4N]iron(III) diaqua(18-crown-6)potassium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonate)…
2015
In the title compound, [FeIII(C48H36N4O2)(H2O)2][K(C12H24O6)(H2O)2](SO3CF3)2·2C12H24O6, the FeIIIatom is situated on an inversion centre and is octahedrally coordinated by four pyrrole N atoms of the deprotenated 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-methoxyphenyl)porphyrinate ligand and two water molecules. The average equatorial Fe—N(pyrrole) bond length [2.043 (6) Å] is consistent with a high-spin (S= 5/2) iron(III) metalloporphyrin derivative. The K+cation, which also lies on an inversion centre, is chelated by the six O atoms of one 18-crown-6 molecule and is additionally coordinated by two water molecules in a distorted hexagonal–bipyramidal geometry. In the crystal, the cations, anions and one non-c…
Support for culture via crowdfunding in question: beyond motivations, an analysis of the barriers to participate
2017
In a context of strong budgetary pressure for non-market cultural organizations and of relative slowdown of crowdfunding campaigns in this sector, this reflection aims to provide a critical analysis of these new forms of financial support for culture. After drawing up a state of the art on the levers and obstacles to participation in such financing operations, the results of a qualitative study based on 43 individuals (donors and non-donors, familiar or not with cultural practices) will be exposed to highlight the diversity of misgivings about crowdfunding, beyond the traditional barriers attached to cultural gift, and the paradoxes that these calls for generosity arouse.
The Țigani Community Adaptability to Changes in Rural Romania and the COVID-19 Impact
2021
Romanian rural villages are struggling to survive present times when youngsters leave for a better life in the city while elders work the land like a hundred years ago. Our paper integrates human environments research with public health preparedness, presenting the Țigani (Gypsy/Roma) ethnic group from rural Romania as an example to the world. The future security of mankind will require a new understanding of the human place in its environment. That will lead to a new society, not the most powerful or intelligent, but the one that is more adaptable to changes, with sensitive and interconnected community members. Therefore, the Țigani ethnic group that fought for its rights and flourished de…
Tworzenie kompleksów inkluzyjnych pomiędzy 5-fluorouracylem a β-cyklodekstrynami
2017
Wykazano istnienie przynajmniej jednego wiązania wodorowego pomiędzy grupą aminową 5FU, a grupą hydroksylową powie…

Treatment of Combined Dairy and Domestic Wastewater with Constructed Wetland System in Sicily (Italy). Pollutant Removal Efficiency and Effect of Veg…
2021
Dairy wastewater (DWW) contains large amounts of mineral and organic compounds, which can accumulate in soil and water causing serious environmental pollution. A constructed wetland (CW) is a sustainable technology for the treatment of DWW in small-medium sized farms. This paper reports a two-year study on the performance of a pilot-scale horizontal subsurface flow system for DWW treatment in Sicily (Italy). The CW system covered a total surface area of 100 m2 and treated approximately 6 m3 per day of wastewater produced by a small dairy farm, subsequent to biological treatment. Removal efficiency (RE) of the system was calculated. The biomass production of two emergent macrophytes was dete…
