Ion pair complexes and anion binding in the solution of a ditopic receptor.

2016

The synthesis and crystal structures with alkali halides of a ditopic benzo-15-crown-5 bis-urea receptor have been presented. In addition, the anion binding properties of and its alkali metal complexes in solution are presented. A comprehensive single-crystal X-ray crystallographic study of , all together 13 crystal structures, including the ion pair complexes with NaCl, NaBr, NaI, KF, KCl, KBr, KI, RbF, RbCl, and RbI, give a detailed view of how behaves in the solid-state with different alkali halides depending on the size of the cation and anion. In the solid-state forms a 1 : 1 complex with a sodium cation and the anion is complexed as a contact (NaCl) or a separate ion pair (NaBr, NaI).…

A calixarene-based chromoionophore for the larger alkali metals

1995

Abstract A bis(arylazo)calix[5]arene crown ether derivative displays large spectral changes upon complexation of cesium and rubidium salts, with good selectivity over the smaller alkali metals.

Experimental study of the long range interactions between a Na (3S) and a Rb (5S) atom

2005

Transitions to near asymptotic levels of the a3Σ+ and the X1Σ+ electronic states in NaRb were recorded by high resolution Fourier transform spectroscopy technique. The hyperfine splitting of the a3Σ+ state levels was analysed. The application of coupled channels calculations is discussed for determination of accurate potential energy curves of the a3Σ+ and the X1Σ+ states capable for reliable description of cold collisions between a Na and a Rb atoms in their ground states.

Characterization of adenosine receptors in guinea-pig isolated left atria

1989

1. The effects of purinergic stimulation on action potential, force of contraction, 86Rb efflux and 45Ca uptake were investigated in guinea-pig left atria. 2. Adenosine exerted a negative inotropic effect which was antagonized by adenosine deaminase but enhanced by dipyridamole. 3. The negative inotropic effect of adenosine was mimicked by 5'-(N-ethyl)-carboxamido-adenosine (NECA) and the isomers of N6-(phenyl-isopropyl)-adenosine, R-PIA and S-PIA. NECA and R-PIA were about 100 times more potent than adenosine, whereas R-PIA was about 100 times more potent than S-PIA. 4. The inotropic effects of adenosine (in the presence of dipyridamole), NECA, R-PIA and S-PIA were competitively antagonize…

Analysis of the hyperpolarizing effects of forskolin in guinea-pig atrial heart muscle.

1988

The effects of forskolin on action potential configuration and on both uptake and efflux of 86Rb+ were studied in guinea-pig left atria. The action potential was prolonged by forskolin in the plateau range but shortened at the end of repolarization; maximal upstroke velocity and amplitude of slow response potentials were enhanced. In partially depolarized preparations, the resting potential was increased by forskolin; this effect was not prevented by atropine 1 μmol/1. Forskolin augmented the rate constant of 86Rb+ efflux in beating and in resting preparations. The uptake of 86Rbs+ was enhanced by forskolin in resting preparations. It is concluded that forskolin stimulates the Na+, K+ -pump…

Heads or Tails? Sandwich-Type Metallocomplexes of Hexakis(2,3-di-O-methyl)-α-cyclodextrin

2020

Native and synthetically modified cyclodextrins (CDs) are useful building blocks in construction of large coordination complexes and porous materials with various applications. Sandwich-type complexes (STCs) are one of the important groups in this area. Usually, coordination of secondary hydroxyls or the “head” portal of native CD molecules to a notional multinuclear ring of metal cations leads to formation of head-to-head STCs. Our study introduces a new CD-ligand, hexakis(2,3-di-O-methyl)-α-cyclodextrin, which enables formation of intriguing head-to-head, but also novel tail-to-tail STCs. Homometallic silver-based head-to-head STCs, AgPF6-STC and AgClO4-STC, were obtained by coordination …

Analysis of the total β-electron spectrum of 92Rb : Implications for the reactor flux anomalies

2022

We present here a microscopic nuclear-structure calculation of a β-electron spectrum including all the β-decay branches of a high Q-value reactor fission product contributing significantly to the reactor antineutrino energy spectrum. We perform large-scale nuclear shell-model calculations of the total electron spectrum for the β− decay of 92Rb to states in 92Sr using a computer cluster. We exploit the β-branching data of a recent total absorption γ-ray spectroscopy (TAGS) measurement to determine the effective values of the weak axial-vector coupling, gA, and the weak axial charge, gA(γ5). By using the TAGS data we avoid the bias stemming from the pandemonium effect which is a systematic er…

Total Absorption Spectroscopy of Fission Fragments Relevant for Reactor Antineutrino Spectra and Decay Heat Calculations

2016

Beta decay of fission products is at the origin of decay heat and antineutrino emission in nuclear reactors. Decay heat represents about 7% of the reactor power during operation and strongly impacts reactor safety. Reactor antineutrino detection is used in several fundamental neutrino physics experiments and it can also be used for reactor monitoring and non-proliferation purposes. 92,93Rb are two fission products of importance in reactor antineutrino spectra and decay heat, but their β-decay properties are not well known. New measurements of 92,93Rb β-decay properties have been performed at the IGISOL facility (Jyväskylä, Finland) using Total Absorption Spectroscopy (TAS). TAS is complemen…

97/37 Rb 60 : The Cornerstone of the Region of Deformation around A∼100

2015

Excited states of the neutron-rich nuclei 97,99Rb were populated for the first time using the multistep Coulomb excitation of radioactive beams. Comparisons of the results with particle-rotor model calculations provide clear identification for the ground-state rotational band of 97Rb as being built on the πg9/2 [431] 3/2+ Nilsson-model configuration. The ground-state excitation spectra of the Rb isotopes show a marked distinction between single-particle-like structures below N=60 and rotational bands above. The present study defines the limits of the deformed region around A∼100 and indicates that the deformation of 97Rb is essentially the same as that observed well inside the deformed regi…
