AbstractConsider a random walk or Lévy process {St} and let τ(u) = inf {t⩾0 : St > u}, P(u)(·) = P(· | τ(u) < ∞). Assuming that the upwards jumps are heavy-tailed, say subexponential (e.g. Pareto, Weibull or lognormal), the asymptotic form of the P(u)-distribution of the process {St} up to time τ(u) is described as u → ∞. Essentially, the results confirm the folklore that level crossing occurs as result of one big jump. Particular sharp conclusions are obtained for downwards skip-free processes like the classical compound Poisson insurance risk process where the formulation is in terms of total variation convergence. En aquest article em propòs reflexionar sobre la recerca de mecanismes de representació literària de la diferència cultural i econòmica que es proposen erosionar la separació que justifica la dicotomia jo/altre. Ho faré a partir de l'estudi d'un cas concret: el volum La pell de la frontera (2014) de Francesc Serés. Aquest llibre contribuí a difondre la situació desesperada de molts migrants, així com també a denunciar la desatenció institucional davant d'uns canvis socials, econòmics i demogràfics que han modificat d'arrel la composició de molts pobles del Baix Cinca i del Segrià. En el territorio que se extiende entre Dertosa (Tortosa) y Carthago Nova, una franja costera alargada y poco profunda de 318 km de longitud en la que se sitúa el País Valenciano, se conocen nueve ciudades romanas, de las que dos son colonias y siete municipios. En este trabajo se analizan los procesos de ruina y expolio a que fueron sometidas tras la desaparición del Imperio, entre los siglos V y VII.

The gut microbiota structure of the terrestrial isopod Porcellionides pruinosus (Isopoda: Oniscidea)

We used a combination of culture-dependent and independent approaches to study in depth the microbial community associated with the digestive tract of the terrestrial isopod Porcellionides pruinosus (Brandt, 1833). Specimens from different sampling sites in Tunisia harbored distinct microbiota profiles indicating the impact of both host origin and environmental factors on shaping the microbial flora within P. pruinosus. Our results revealed unexpected bacterial diversity especially via metagenomic analysis; a total of 819 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) assigned to two major bacterial phyla; Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes. This dissertation makes use of legal documents and ancillary official sources revealing the life courses of individuals to explore the implications of bankruptcy and the meanings attached to it at a time when Finnish society industrialized and modernized. Three perspectives serve to support the analysis. At the heart of the study is the domestic economy. Thus the study is concerned with cases of bankruptcy ruin both during life and also after death. Secondly, bankruptcy is addressed as an indicator of economic dynamism and entrepreneurial spirit. Szwedzkie kamienie runiczne stanowią ważne uzupełnienie naszej wiedzy o aktywności Skandynawów w Bizancjum w XI w., w szczególności w ramach Gwardii Wareskiej. Pochodzące w największej liczbie z Upplandii są również świadectwem zmian w religijności przybyszy z Półwyspu Skandynawskiego, którzy z pogan przeistaczali się w chrześcijan. Umieszczanie na kamieniach runicznych krzyży, fragmentów modlitw za zmarłych, relacji z podróży czy pielgrzymki, było świadectwem wzrostu znaczenia nowej wiary, do czego przyczyniali się wracający do domów po długiej służbie gwardziści.
