Grover’s Search with Faults on Some Marked Elements

2016

Grover's algorithm is a quantum query algorithm solving the unstructured search problem of size N using $$O\sqrt{N}$$ queries. It provides a significant speed-up over any classical algorithm [2]. The running time of the algorithm, however, is very sensitive to errors in queries. Multiple authors have analysed the algorithm using different models of query errors and showed the loss of quantum speed-up [1, 4]. We study the behavior of Grover's algorithm in the model where the search space contains both faulty and non-faulty marked elements. We show that in this setting it is indeed possible to find one of marked elements in $$O\sqrt{N}$$ queries.

Organization of Production Processes through the Multi-Service Method by Performing some Identical Operations of the same Duration and Structure

2013

Organisation of production processes, by means of multi service method refers to the performance of attributions within a working system, using simultaneously or successively more inputs or more items in a single means of production, by one or more employees. In the specifically chosen case, in order to outline the advantages that shall be obtained after implementing the multi service method, we want to illustrate a situation where there are the execution conditions of certain identical operations, with the same duration and structure, in which case the running time of the performer and the means of production will be identical. Serving multiple machines finds application in all industrial …

Deep learning approach for prediction of impact peak appearance at ground reaction force signal of running activity

2020

Protruding impact peak is one of the features of vertical ground reaction force (GRF) that is related to injury risk while running. The present research is dedicated to predicting GRF impact peak appearance by setting a binary classification problem. Kinematic data, namely a number of raw signals in the sagittal plane, collected by the Vicon motion capture system (Oxford Metrics Group, UK) were employed as predictors. Therefore, the input data for the predictive model are presented as a multi-channel time series. Deep learning techniques, namely five convolutional neural network (CNN) models were applied to the binary classification analysis, based on a Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) classifi…

Large body size variation is linked to low communication success in tandem running ants

2019

AbstractDiversity in animal groups is often assumed to increase group performance. In insect colonies, genetic, behavioral and morphological variation among workers can improve colony functioning and resilience. However, it has been hypothesized that during communication processes, differences between workers, e.g. in body size, could also have negative effects. Tandem running is a common recruitment strategy in ants and allows a leader to guide a nestmate follower to resources. A substantial proportion of tandem runs fail because leader and follower loose contact. Using the ant Temnothorax nylanderi as a model system, we tested the hypothesis that tandem running success is impaired if lead…

Effect of Running Exercise on Oxidative Stress Biomarkers: A Systematic Review

2021

Background: Exercise induced health benefits are limited by the overaccumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). ROS and further oxidative stress could potentially induce muscle damage which could result in poor exercise performance. However, predicting ROS induced oxidative stress in response to endurance training has several limitations in terms of selecting biomarkers that are used to measure oxidative stress. Objective: The purpose of this study was to systematically investigate the suitable biomarkers that predict oxidative stress status among runners. Methods: According to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement, a search for relevant …

Predictor variables for half marathon race time in recreational female runners

2011

Import JabRef | WosArea General and Internal Medicine; International audience; INTRODUCTION: The relationship between skin-fold thickness and running performance has been investigated from 100 m to the marathon distance, except the half marathon distance. OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether anthropometry characteristics or training practices were related to race time in 42 recreational female half marathoners to determine the predictor variables of half-marathon race time and to inform future novice female half marathoners. METHODS: Observational field study at the 'Half Marathon Basel' in Switzerland. RESULTS: In the bivariate analysis, body mass (r = 0.60), body mass index (r = 0.48), body …

Validation of a method to measure total spontaneous physical activity of sedentary and voluntary running mice

2014

Running wheels are commonly used to stimulate physical activity of mice. To control the effects of physical activity on study results, it is important to measure the total activity (all movements) of both sedentary and running wheel stimulated mice.Because there was a lack of a validated system, we built a force-plate based system specifically for this purpose. The validity of the system and its variables (activity index, activity time and distance) were tested in calibration measurements and in situ by measuring the activity of eight mice both with and without running wheels. Four mice served as sedentary controls. Activity index adds changes in vertical reaction forces induced by moving m…

2021

Physical activity is considered a promising preventive intervention to reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease (AD). However, the positive effect of therapeutic administration of physical activity has not been proven conclusively yet, likely due to confounding factors such as varying activity regimens and life or disease stages. To examine the impact of different routines of physical activity in the early disease stages, we subjected young 5xFAD and wild-type mice to 1-day (acute) and 30-day (chronic) voluntary wheel running and compared them with age-matched sedentary controls. We observed a significant increase in brain lactate levels in acutely trained 5xFAD mice relative to al…

Effect of 5% body weight forward pulling on dynamics of treadmill running

2003

Forward pulled running on a treadmill is known to increase mechanical and decrease metabolic constrains relative to normal running. This experimental situation was used to investigate the variations of the mechanical parameters induced by the pulling. Ten subjects ran during 3 min at individually predetermined constant speeds of 16.4 ± 1.4 km · h-1 on a treadmill while being forward pulled by a load equal to 5% of their body weight. Ground reaction forces were recorded during the last 30 s of the run. Kinematic parameters of the stride as well as impulses and mechanical work were then calculated. Stride frequency did not change, while horizontal impulses were highly modified (+38% and -28%,…
