Compromised nuclear envelope integrity drives TREX1-dependent DNA damage and tumor cell invasion

Although mutations leading to a compromised nuclear envelope cause diseases such as muscular dystrophies or accelerated aging, the consequences of mechanically induced nuclear envelope ruptures are less known. Here, we show that nuclear envelope ruptures induce DNA damage that promotes senescence in non-transformed cells and induces an invasive phenotype in human breast cancer cells. We find that the endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-associated exonuclease TREX1 translocates into the nucleus after nuclear envelope rupture and is required to induce DNA damage. Management of Renal Angiomyolipoma: A Report of 14 Cases and Review of the Literature

14 patients with renal angiomyolipoma are presented. Two of them had tuberous sclerosis (TS) with synchronous bilateral and multiple tumors. Two other patients without TS also had multiple tumors in 1 kidney. More than half the patients were symptomatic (n = 8), 2 of them with spontaneous rupture of the tumor. Misdiagnosis, spontaneous rupture and tumor growth can be prevented by utilizing conservative, organ-sparing techniques. In cases of solitary kidneys with large and/or hemorrhagic angiomyolipoma, superselective arterial embolization is indicated.

We present angiographical and neuropathological data of a 51-year-old woman, who primarily suffered from a recurrent glomus tempo-rale tumour on the left side and who finally died after a spontaneous rupture of a distal basilar aneurysm which developed during angiography. As a second important finding the existence of a vasospasm at the time of the rupture is also confirmed.

Echocardiographic Assessment of Ventricular Septal Rupture and Left Ventricular Aneurysm after Inferior and Posterior Myocardial Infarction

We present a case of posterior ventricular septal rupture associated to left ventricular aneurysm manged, during peri-operative period, by transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography. Three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography findings add adjunctive and more accurate information regarding morphological details of the ventricular septal rupture rather than two-dimensional echocardiography, allowing, meanwhile, the detection of the outcome of the surgical repair.

The sensitivity of transthoracic echocardiography to visualize the structural abnormality of papillary muscle rupture (PMR) after acute myocardial infarction can be anticipated to average about 50%; therefore, we evaluated five patients exhibiting the condition with both transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography. The use of the two imaging techniques resulted in the fact that no instance of PMR was missed. Using transthoracic echocardiography in two patients and transesophageal echocardiography in four, the ruptured papillary muscle was visualized directly. Purpose To investigate the safety and efficacy of emergency treatment of acute aortic diseases with endovascular stent grafts. Methods In 11 patients (median age 55 years, range 18 - 85) with acute complications of descending aortic diseases endovascular emergency treatment was performed: traumatic aortic rupture (n = 4), penetrating ulcer with aortobronchial fistula or hematothorax (n = 4), acute type B dissection (n = 2, one with penetration, one with subacute mesenteric ischemia), and symptomatic aneurysm of the thoracic aorta (n = 1) with pain and diameter progression. 15 stent grafts were implanted (Talent n = 11, Vanguard/Stentor n = 4).
