This paper seeks to analyse economy of a well-to-do peasant family settled in the urban fringes of the city of Valencia, capital of the kingdom, in the first half of fifteenth Century. The death of the head of the family, due to the plague, made emerge the solidarity of the relatives, who took care of the orphans. Thanks to the memorial of rents we can assess the economic strategies of a wealthier peasant family, the importance of markets and the city and countryside relations.

The diffusion and use of information and communication technologies and the city from 1996 to 2009

The aim of this paper is to investigate whether the diffusion and the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) are associated with the size of the place of residence where people live. The article explores how the relationship between ICTs and place of residence changed between 1996 and 2009. The study presents data from two consecutive telephone surveys collected from Italy, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Spain. Results show an unexpected role of the relatively rural areas as attractor of new technologies. The chapter presents two different ways of delineating contemporary rural living: the approach of the Finnish Rural Policy Committee and the alternative approach arising from definitions given by the people living in rural Finland. Digitalization gives micro-enterprises and rural areas new possibilities and it can support their competitiveness. In this paper, we have presented one way of supporting the diffusion and adoption of digital innovations in rural micro-enterprises. First, we examined the challenges and digital competence of the micro-enterprises in the rural areas of Central Finland to better understand what they needed.
