The rural sanctuary in the San Cataldo district, between the territories of Terrasini and Partinico, is mentioned by the written sources since the XII century, but the surviving architectural structures date back to the 16th century. The site, abandoned since the 1950s and now restored by the Soprintendenza ai Beni Culturali of Palermo who carried out archaeological excavations in this area in 2000 and 2014, over the centuries has been an important aggregation pole in order to the cultural and religious identity of the rural communities in northwestern Sicily, in relation to the fertile hinterland through the Roma viability (via consolare Valeria) .

This paper, affecting an analysis comparative of the different regional typologies, it analyzes the concept of weakness, with reference to the phenomena of degrade and disarrangement of the grounds, inside the processes of identification of functional territorial articulations to the statistical analysis and the decisions of policy, showing as despite the existence of a fed together of interpretations none of the examined typologies both indeed able to furnish a representation suitable of the phenomenon, since the different procedures of regionalization introduce not suitable discriminatory methodologies.

Traditional rural biotopes such as wood pastures are species rich habitats which have been created by extensive agriculture. In all European countries both the quality and quantity of traditional rural biotopes have drastically decreased during the past century because of increasing farming intensity. This decline is causing a threat to many species, but very little is known about the conservation ecology of fungi living in wood pastures. The Diversification of Sicilian Farms: A Way to Sustainable Rural Development

Rural areas still suffer from a lack of sustainable development, and the diversification of farms may be a step in the right direction. The paper provides a detailed picture of the diversification of Sicilian farms into tourism services. Specifically, we propose a simple indicator of localization intensity of agritourism farms and explore their spatial distribution at municipality level. Our study highlights that Sicilian farms rarely diversify into tourism services, despite being situated in attractive areas. That said, some significant spatial clusters of municipalities where agritourism farms are highly concentrated do emerge from the study.
