Study of Prussian Blue (PB) films by ac-electrogravimetry: influence of PB morphology on ions movement

The electrochemical response of Prussian Blue films in NaCl solutions was studied. It was proved that the stability with cycling of PB films increased when these films are covered with a Nafion® membrane. This fact allows PB films to be studied in NaCl solutions under steady state conditions by impedance spectroscopy and ac-electrogravimetry. A model, which can explain the differences between the electrochemical behaviour of amorphous PB films and crystalline PB films in NaCl solutions, is proposed. Pressure-tuning of magnetism and linkage isomerism in iron(II) hexacyanochromate.

A pressure-induced linkage isomerization of the cyanide anion has been observed in single crystals of a chromium(III)-iron(II) Prussian blue analogue of formula K0.4Fe4[Cr(CN)6]2.8 square1.2.16H2O (1). Upon application of pressure in the 0-1200 MPa range, the cyanide ligand rotates and becomes C-bonded to the iron(II) cations, leading to a stabilization of their diamagnetic low-spin states. The result is a decrease of magnetization and magnetic ordering temperatures from TC = 19 K at ambient pressure to 13 K at 1200 MPa. Exchange coupling in an electrodeposited magnetic bilayer of Prussian blue analogues

Bilayers of Prussian blue analogues (PBA) constituted of hard and soft magnets have been fabricated by means of electrochemical deposition. This method affords a good contact between two PBA thin films of nanometer thickness. Complete characterization of the resulting system has been performed, which has allowed the determination of the preservation of the chemical identity of both materials during the electrodeposition and the establishment of a clear interface between them. The magnetic behavior of the bilayer can be explained in terms of an exchange-spring magnet.

Abstract In search of a new Prussian Blue analogue exhibiting fascinating magnetic properties, potassium manganese hexacyanoferrate, K 0.2 Mn 0 . 66 II Mn 1.44 III [ Fe 0.2 II Fe 0.8 III ( CN ) 6 ] O 0.66 ( CH 3 COO ) 1.32 ] , 7.6H2O, has been synthesized. This compound undergoes a paramagnetic to ferrimagnetic transition at 10 K. Ohmic drop of Prussian-blue/graphite+epoxy electrodes

Abstract Ohmic drop effects on the voltammogram shape of the Prussian-blue⇌Everitt’s salt system have been studied by considering the electroactive film model. As the uncompensated resistance varies, the experimental characteristic curve parameters also varies. A dependence of the voltammograms with the graphite proportion was found related with the ohmic drop due to the composite electrodes. The optimal graphite proportion to obtain a good faradaic-to-charge current ratio was 62% in weight which coincides with the second percolation threshold. The ohmic overpotential, which relates the ohmic drop with the electrochemical magnitudes, is also minimum at this proportion.

A magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) study has been performed on electrodeposited thin films of the Prussian blue analogue Fe3[Cr(CN)6]2·15H2O (1). This study reveals the onset of hysteretic magnetic signals at temperatures above 60 K, in contrast with magnetic susceptibility measurements which indicate a Curie temperature of 23 K for this ferromagnetic film. The origin of this discrepancy is due to the presence of amorphous iron oxide particles that accumulate in the surface of the material. This report illustrates the potential of MOKE magnetometry for the detection of surface chemical impurities that remain elusive using bulk magnetic techniques.

Abstract The sol-gel produced polycrystalline Prussian Blue thick films as planar humidity sensors have been investigated by impedance spectroscopy. The equivalent circuit used allows simulation in all the investigated r.h. range (10–100%). The magnetoresistance (MR) effect of thin films of the Prussian Blue Analogue (PBA) Cr5.5(CN)12·11.5H2O, prepared by electrochemical deposition, has been measured using the standard two-point probe method. This molecule-based ferrimagnetic material, with a Tc = 240 K, exhibits MR up to 2% at 6 T and 200 K.

Prussian Blue analogue (PBA) nanoparticles can be self-assembled at air/liquid interfaces to build novel materials with interesting magnetic features. Herein, we study the influence of the size of PBA Cs0.4 Ni[Cr(CN)6 ]0.9 and K0.25 Ni[Fe(CN)6 ]0.75 nanoparticles on the self-assembly behavior by synchrotron X-ray reflectivity. Both nanoparticles show similar Z-potential values. The phospholipid dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine and the amino surfactant dimethyldioctadecylammonium have been used as Langmuir monolayers to anchor the PBA nanoparticles and study the interplay of forces directing the self-assembly of the nanoparticles at the surfactant/liquid interface.
