Estimation of individual Gibbs energies of cation transfer employing the insertion electrochemistry of solid Prussian blue
2011
Abstract A novel method to determine the Gibbs energy of cation transfer between two miscible solvents is described. This method uses electrochemical data for the reversible cation-assisted solid-state reduction of Prussian blue using ferrocene as internal potential standard. Voltammetric data can be used for a direct measurement of the Gibbs energy of ion transfer from one solvent to another using midpeak potentials in solutions of suitable salts in each one of the solvents separately or mixtures of the solvents. Excess Gibbs energies of solvation in solvent mixtures can also be directly estimated. Gibbs energies of cation transfer of Li+, Na+ and K+ ions from water to MeOH, MeCN and DMSO …
School Bullying Through Graphic Vignettes : Developing a New Arts-Based Method to Study a Sensitive Topic
2020
The purpose of this study was to develop a new arts-based measure assessing school bullying and to test it within a pilot study involving 19 schoolchildren (mean age = 15.4; range = 1.00). The researchers designed the new methodological tool (referred to as graphic vignettes) as a set of incomplete comic strips, which participants were asked to complete in a creative way. Researchers then invited participants to engage in follow-up interviews using completed comic strips as individualized interview prompts. The authors detail the design and administration of the graphic vignettes and discuss their efficacy, limitations, and potential applications. The researchers argue that studies on sensi…

Rīgas Politehnikuma studentu disciplinēšanas regula
2022
Studentu karcera laika kapsulas
2023
The Stroke Riskometer (TM) App: Validation of a data collection tool and stroke risk predictor
2014
Background The greatest potential to reduce the burden of stroke is by primary prevention of first-ever stroke, which constitutes three quarters of all stroke. In addition to population-wide prevention strategies (the ‘mass’ approach), the ‘high risk’ approach aims to identify individuals at risk of stroke and to modify their risk factors, and risk, accordingly. Current methods of assessing and modifying stroke risk are difficult to access and implement by the general population, amongst whom most future strokes will arise. To help reduce the burden of stroke on individuals and the population a new app, the Stroke Riskometer™, has been developed. We aim to explore the validity of the app fo…
Stan techniczny i wykorzystanie zabudowań po klasztorach skasowanych w guberni wołyńskiej w latach 1832–1853 w świetle raportu wołyńskiego gubernator…
2019
W rzeczywistości przejęte ziemskie dobra klasztorne zasiliły skarb publiczny, a mienie z różnych powodów niezbywalne powiększyło majątek, pozostający w dyspozycji władz gubernialnych oraz Cerkwi prawosławnej.
2016
Sofya Kovalevskaya (1850-1891) was an extraordinary gifted woman who stood out significantly from the nineteenth century Russian women. A Russian, of Polish-German descent, Kovalevskaya was an outstanding mathematician and a professor at Stockholm University. Besides her scientific activities, Kovalevskaya was also a writer and publicist. She is the author of a number of novels, a play (in collaboration with Anne-Charlotte Leffler-Edgren), and over a dozen of poems. Her output also includes autobiographical Recollections o f Childhood, which reveal insights into different aspects of personal and social identity of this exceptional woman. Kovalevskaya's traumatic relationships with her famil…
