Tourism SME sustainability social and economic challenges during pandemic: cases of Russian Federation, Georgia and Latvia
2021
Until 2020, the tourism industry was characterized by a growth rate, the statistics highlight that globally 2019 was the tenth year with a consecutive annual growth. However, the Covid-19 pandemic marked a major turning point in the development of tourism, instead of tourism overdevelopment, the underdevelopment issues appeared in front pages of the industry news. At this time, it is crucially important to look at sustainability issues, therefore the aim of this study is to analyse the social and economic dim…
Post-Soviet studies and the transition: the case of the Russian economy
2008
The disintegration of the Soviet Union meant that an essential object of study for research analysing centralised planning disappeared and the reference point for a lot of work dealing with the comparison of economic systems was lost. It could be assumed that such a structural alteration might lead to reduced interest in Russian studies and a crisis for the scientific community involved. The purpose of this study is to test this idea and to show how the scientific community interested in post-Soviet studies has changed during the transition period.
Within the framework of the electoral authoritarianism, the aim of the paper is to analyze the role of elections and opposition parties, systemic and non systemic, in Iran and Russia, exposing how both countries, albei…

2011
PurposeEntrepreneurship and small businesses in Russia have been of academic interest for over 15 years. Media for the minorities: Russian language media in Estonia 1990–2012

Conflictual Rebordering: The Russia Policies of Finland and Estonia
2023
This article seeks to analyse the process of conflictual rebordering in the EU’s relations with Russia. The authors single out three major crises that triggered and shaped the process of toughening the border regime and the related transformations of political meaning of the EU-Russia border: the COVID-19 pandemic, the drastic deterioration of Moscow-Brussels relations in the beginning of 2021 and the war in Ukraine that started on 24 February 2022. Correspondingly, the EU’s reactions to each of these critical junctures might be described through the academic concepts of governmentality, normativity and geopolitics. Our aim is to look at the three ensuing models – governmental, normative an…
Badanie pamięci lokalnej w kontekście państwowej polityki pamięci w Polsce. Deportacje w głąb Rosji i na Sybir w pamięci nieoficjalnej
2018
Researchers in social memory are bound in their work to include the relations occurring between the memory of local communities and the official historical policy of the State. When events retained and exposed in the local memory are persistently passed over in silence, distorted, falsified or removed from the public sphere by means of decisions taken by the censorship, the remembrance of these events takes on the character of concealed memory, which integrates the given social group tightly (e.g., the Siberians, the Silesians). The transformations which followed in Poland after 1989 (liquidation of the Censorship) formally introduced „commonwealths of memory” into the public debate; howeve…
