A Russian Radical Conservative Challenge to the Liberal Global Order : Aleksandr Dugin

2019

The chapter examines Russian political theorist Aleksandr Dugin’s (b. 1962) challenge to the Western liberal order. Even though Dugin’s project is in many ways a theoretical epitome of Russia’s contemporary attempt to profile itself as a regional great power with a political and cultural identity distinct from the liberal West, Dugin can also be read in a wider context as one of the currently most prominent representatives of the culturally and intellectually oriented international New Right. The chapter introduces Dugin’s role on the Russian right-wing political scene and his international networks, Russian neo-Eurasianism as his ideological footing, and his more recent “fourth political t…

Normative Imperatives and Communal Influences : The Consistory's Role in Proposing Lutheran Clergy in the 18th-Century Russian Border Area

2017

Merit was strongly emphasized in the Privileges of the Clergy (in 1723) and legislative reforms, as well as in the formalization of election practices in connection with clerical appointments in the Kingdom of Sweden in the early 18th century. According to existing research, this resulted in a deepening difference between the standpoints of the laity and the ecclesiastical authorities. However, in studying the appointments of clergy in the Lutheran parishes in Russia’s western border area in the mid- and late 18th century, this article argues that the boundary between the opinions of the diocesan board (in this case the Consistory of Fredrikshamn) and those of the parishioners with regard t…

The EU-Ukraine Association Agreement prior to the Vilnius Eastern Partnership Summit

2014

Abstract This paper seeks to explore how the EU policy on Ukraine evolved in the run-up to the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius in November 2013. In particular, it looks into the preparations leading to the signature of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. Thereby it contributes to better understanding of the EU policy debate related to the associated negotiations with the Eastern Partnership countries. Prior to the Vilnius Summit there were high expectations that signature of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement would become a key deliverable of the summit. After the EU had postponed the signing of the agreement due to Ukraine’s backsliding in democracy for several times, the process…

Landscape in transition in the shadow of 2022 Russia’s invasion in Ukraine – notes from Hungary

2022

This research note focuses on two phenomena: the transformations in the landscape in Hungary as an effect of Russia’s invasion in Ukraine and the welcome/help centers that were established to channel mobility and provide a temporary safe space. I suggest that liminality (which serves as a main explanatory category) is characteristic of both. It is stated that in this context that the bodies of refugees are reminders of the existence of the (state) border, which gets reaffirmed by the process of welcoming and hosting and is also reflected in the visual reminders in the landscape. I also divide the management of the refugee crisis into three phases: spontaneous action, institutionalization, a…

Insights on the Mechanism of Insoluble-to-Soluble Prussian Blue Transformation

2009

The electrochemical transformation of the soluble form of Prussian blue (PB) material from the insoluble form was monitored using electrochemical, gravimetric, acoustic, and spectroscopic techniques simultaneously. The described combination of in situ techniques represents an innovative tool for measurement in electrochemistry, which provides complementary information on the electrochemical systems. The insoluble-to-soluble PB transformation process takes place during the successive voltammetric cycles between the mixed valence form (PB) and the fully reduced form [Everitt's salt (ES)]. One of the processes that takes place is the exit of free Fe(CN) 4- 6 ions occluded in the vacancies of t…

Ionic and Free Solvent Motion in Poly(azure A) Studied by ac-Electrogravimetry

2011

International audience; This work is focused on the mechanistic aspects of the redox behavior of poly(azure A) taking advantage of the controlled modulation of their oxidation states by ac-electrogravimetry. The originality of this technique is its ability to discriminate between cation and anion involved in the charge compensation process and the accompanying free solvent transfer, directly or indirectly. Two processes were proposed where the faster ionic exchange is considered to be the participation of the anion species acting as counterions whereas the slower one is related to the proton transfer. The proton is implied as reactants for the two electroactive sites identified in the polym…

Venäjänkielisen internetin poliittisen sääntelyn kiristäminen

2017

Tässä artikkelissa käsittelemme internetin venäjänkielisen segmentin, ”Runetin” sääntelyä kansalaisyhteiskunnan ja poliittisen opposition toiminnan rajoittamiseksi. Keskitymme toimenpiteisiin, jotka alkoivat opposition protestiaallon aikana 2011–2013, jolloin Kreml käynnisti päämäärätietoisen kampanjan Runetin poliittisen käytön kontrolloimiseksi. Tätä kampanjaa kutsumme ”Runetin valtaukseksi”.

State propaganda and popular culture in the Russian-speaking internet

2019

This chapter looks at how the Russian state authorities have attempted to influence communication on the Russian-speaking internet (‘Runet’) in the 2010s and how pro-government ‘patriotic’ views are disseminated across diverse channels of the internet. It examines the strategies employed by the Russian authorities to present propagandistic messages in discourses tailored for digital media users. More specifically, it analyses connections between the language and the imagery of political populism and the forms of popular culture and discusses how pro-state messages are positioned as attractive consumer products. peerReviewed

Rosyjski korpus posiłkowy (auksyliarny) na służbie Augusta II w Rzeczypospolitej i Saksonii. Nowe spojrzenie na sasko-polsko-rosyjską współpracę poli…

2019

W zaprezentowanym artykule recenzyjnym prob…
