Design, Modelling and Simulation of Electro-Hydraulic Self-Contained Cylinders based on Digital Hydraulics

2018

Master's thesis Mechatronics MAS500 - University of Agder 2018 Nowadays, hydraulic cylinders are mostly powered by a separate HPU and controlled by conventional servo and proportional valves. New trends have been under development the last years. The first trend is self-contained designs where the power unit is integrated in the cylinder design. Digital hydraulics is the second new trend where conventional flow control methods are replaced by simple ON/OFF valves and digital displacement pumps. A totally novel design would be a combination of the two mentioned trends. Designing a hydraulic cylinder that combines both the self-contained method and digital hydraulics is expected to results in…

Modelling of a hydro-pneumatic system for heave compensation

2017

Masteroppgave i mekatronikk MAS500 - Universitetet i Agder 2017 Testing of control systems on simulators has been found to be both cost and time e cient. To get good results from testing, a realistic response from the simulator is important. In this thesis, a mathematical model of a hydropneumatic heave compensation system for such purposes is proposed. The emphasis has been on developing a relatively simple model which is easy to run, but also accounts for important e ects like friction, non-ideal gas behaviour and temperature variation in the gas system. The mathematical model is veri ed against log data obtained from real drilling operations. Then, it is compared to simpler versions to i…

Secondary Control of a Digital Hydraulic Motor for Winch Applications

2018

Master's thesis Mechatronics MAS500 - University of Agder 2018 The reliable traditional hydraulic systems for industrial purposes is being challenged by an emerging technology called digital hydraulics. This technology shows promising improvements in regards to e ciency, especially in comparison to systems dependent on hydraulic pumps or motors with variable displacement. Digital hydraulic motors eliminate the need for a servo valve by connecting each individual motor cylinder directly to the high-pressure and low-pressure line by means of fast-acting on/o -valves. In this thesis, the potential of digital hydraulics is investigated by developing a control system intended for a digital displ…

Fault Diagnosis of an Electrical Winch based on Structural Analysis

2018

Master's thesis Mechatronics MAS500 - University of Agder 2018 This report covers development and implementation of a model-based fault-detection and fault diagnosis algorithm based on structural analysis, providing deeper knowledge of predictive maintenance, which o ers the industry increased uptime and reduced spending. Failure mode and e ect analysis are carried out at component level for an electrical winch. Construction of a Simulink model, used to verify the algorithms, are described in detail including governing equations and implementation. The basis of a structural analysis is outlined and tested on the electrical winch system. Results from the simulation model covers faults in per…

Modelling, Simulation and Control of offshore crane Develop a kinematic and dynamic crane model and study of several control designs

2018

Master's thesis Mechatronics MAS500 - University of Agder 2018 This master thesis is about Modelling, Simulation and Control of a MacGregor Active Heave Compensation (AHC) 250t crane operating on the supply vessel Gran Canyon. The crane model was developed mathematically using robot modeling theory including both kinematic and dynamic equations. This model was developed and simulated in Matlab and Simulink and further compared, where the two models showed equal results. Control designs for an offshore crane can be developed in several ways, but in this thesis the control task only concerns position control of the crane and can be divided into two control tasks. The main goal is to determine…

PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF ADVANCED CONTROL : An evaluation of control methods on a Quanser AERO

2018

Master's thesis Mechatronics MAS500 - University of Agder 2018 In the past years, rotorcraft have received much attention in our society. These provide great accessibility and are utilized in many areas of application. The complex dynamics of rotorcraft make them di cult to control, and the applications demand stable, safe, and agile devices. This thesis investigates the use of advanced control methods and evaluates their e ectiveness using a 2DOF (pitch and yaw) ' ight control experiment-platform'; the Quanser AERO. The main goal of the project is development and evaluation of angular-position controllers for the AERO, using conventional and advanced control theory. This includes cascade P…

Biochemical and Kinetic Analyses of NS5B RNA-Dependent RNA Polymerase of the Hepatitis C Virus

1998

The biochemical properties of the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) of the hepatitis C virus were analyzed. A hexahistidine affinity-tagged NS5B fusion protein was expressed with recombinant baculoviruses in insect cells and purified to near homogeneity. Enzymatic activity of the purified protein was inhibited by KCl or high concentrations of NaCl and was absolutely dependent on Mg2+, which could be replaced by Mn2+. NS5B was found to be processive and able to copy long heteropolymeric templates with an elongation rate of 150-200 nucleotides/min at 22 degreesC. Kinetic constants were determined for all four nucleoside triphosphates and different templates. In case of a heteropolymeric RNA…

Anticipatory postural adjustments during joint action coordination

2019

International audience; There is a current claim that humans are able to effortlessly detect others’ hidden mental state by simply observing their movements and transforming the visual input into motor knowledge to predict behaviour. Using a classical paradigm quantifying motor predictions, we tested the role of vision feedback during a reach and load-lifting task performed either alone or with the help of a partner. Wrist flexor and extensor muscle activities were recorded on the supporting hand. Early muscle changes preventing limb instabilities when participants performed the task by themselves revealed the contribution of the visual input in postural anticipation. When the partner perfo…
