Pacienta drošība operācijas laikā

2016

Bakalaura darba tēma – Pacienta drošība operācijas laikā. Tēmas aktualitāti nosaka pasaules mērogā aktualizētie jautājumi par pacientu drošības nodrošināšanu operācijas laikā, mazinot kaitējumu pacienta veselībai. Darba mērķis: noskaidrot pacientu drošības mērķus operācijas laika traumatoloģijas profila stacionārā. Mērķa sasniegšanai tika izvirzīti vairāki uzdevumi. Izvirzītais pētniecības jautājums: Kā tiek ievēroti pacientu drošības aspekti operācijas laikā traumatoloģijas profila stacionārā. Darbā izmantota kvalitatīvā pētniecības metode – intervija. Medicīnas profesionāļi kā primāro pacienta drošības aspektu atzīmē pacienta identifikāciju, kam seko paredzētās operācijas, vietas un puses…

LA COPERTURA IN FERRO DEL POLITEAMA GARIBALDI. UNA INNOVATIVA SPERIMENTAZIONE NELLA PALERMO DEL XIX SECOLO

2015

The roofing of the nineteenth Politeama Garibaldi in Palermo creates to the designer, Giuseppe Damiani Almeyda, technical and architectural difficulties: in fact, if the scene roofing has been resolved applying established schemes, for the roofing of the stalls area, made years later, an efficient connection with the existing roofing and the external walls was manifested. The goal of this study is the knowledge of the iron structure, the production and processing techniques adopted for the realization of the roofing, also aimed to the recognition of the inspiring structural models, the connecting systems, the state of preservation. Through the analysis of the used shapes and techniques, the…

Non-target and suspected-target screening for potentially hazardous chemicals in food contact materials: investigation of paper straws

2020

A non-target screening strategy was developed for the safety evaluation of potentially hazardous chemicals in paper food contact materials (FCMs). A tentative list of suspect analytes was generated using publicly available FCM substance inventories, the presence of contaminants in paper straws was confirmed by high-resolution Orbitrap mass spectrometry. Data-independent and data-dependent MS and MS/MS results for candidate compounds were processed using a workflow including peak detection by deconvolution, blank subtraction, retention time alignment, formula assignment and fragmentation spectra search against spectral libraries followed by

The BIOSAFEPAPER project for in vitro toxicity assessments: preparation, detailed chemical characterisation and testing of extracts from paper and bo…

2008

International audience; Nineteen food contact papers and boards and one non-food contact board were extracted following test protocols developed within European Union funded project BIOSAFEPAPER. The extraction media were either hot or cold water, 95% ethanol or Tenax, according to the end use of the sample. The extractable dry matter content of the samples varied from 1200 to 11,800 mg/kg (0.8-35.5 mg/dm2). According to GC-MS the main substances extracted into water were pulp-derived natural products such as fatty acids, resin acids, natural wood sterols and alkanols. Substances extracted into ethanol particularly, were diisopropylnaphthalenes, alkanes and phthalic acid esters. The non-foo…

Risk assessment in ginecology and obstetrics in Sicily: an approach based on Wolff's Criteria

2013

Objectives To apply Wolff’s Criteria to hospital discharge records (HDR) in order to detect adverse events worthy of further study. Methods Gynecology and Obstetrics Units of three Sicilian hospitals were considered and HDR regarding ordinary and day hospital admissions in 2008 were collected. A matched case-control study was designed, by random selection of 10 controls at maximum for each case. Matching was performed on the variables age and speciality of admission (gynecology or obstetrics). Results Out of a total of 7011 HDR examined, 114 cases were identified with Wolff’s Criteria. Multivariate analysis confirmed a statistically significant association with the origin of admission, diag…

A human factors intervention in a hospital - evaluating the outcome of a TeamSTEPPS program in a surgical ward

2021

AbstractBackgroundPatient safety in hospitals is being jeopardized, since too many patients experience adverse events. Most of these adverse events arise from human factors, such as inefficient teamwork and communication failures, and the incidence of adverse events is greatest in the surgical area. Previous research has shown the effect of team training on patient safety culture and on different areas of teamwork. Limited research has investigated teamwork in surgical wards. The aim of this study was to evaluate the professional and organizational outcomes of a team training intervention among healthcare professionals in a surgical ward after 6 and 12 months. Systems Engineering Initiative…

Removal of total organic carbon from peat solution by hybrid method—Electrocoagulation combined with adsorption

2018

Abstract Humic substances end up in water from the drainage basin causing eutrophication and the spread of algae. These natural organic substances have an influence on the physical, chemical and biological properties of the water system. Adsorption and electrocoagulation (EC) are commonly used purification methods in the water and wastewater treatment. Both methods are used by themselves for removing a wide range of impurities. In this research, the novelty was to study the effect of combined activated carbon (AC) adsorption and electrocoagulation method on the removal of organic substances as total organic carbon (TOC) from the peat solution. With the hybrid method, TOC content was efficie…

Long-Term Safety and Efficacy of Caplacizumab for Acquired Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (aTTP): The Post-HERCULES Study

2021

Abstract Background: The post-HERCULES trial (NCT02878603) evaluated long-term safety and efficacy of caplacizumab in patients with acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (aTTP; also known as immune-mediated TTP), and efficacy of repeated use of caplacizumab for aTTP recurrence. Methods: Patients who completed the HERCULES trial were invited to participate in the post-HERCULES study and attend twice-yearly visits for 3 years. In case of aTTP recurrence, patients could receive open-label (OL) caplacizumab with therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) and immunosuppression (IST). Safety was assessed during the overall study period (intention-to-observe [ITO] population) and during recurrences.…
