Emergenza sanitaria, (in)sicurezza e interventi normativi in materia di immigrazione in Italia
2020
The recent legislative measures and practices introduced in Italy in the filed of migration have highlighted many of the juridical problems that the current sanitary crisis is posing, especially with regard to the relationship between state of emergency and constitutional rights, also with regard to the State's obligations under international law. After briefly highliting the danger in opposing individual rights and undetermined political purposes, this contribution underlines the lack of reasonableness and consistency of these interventions. Particular attention is paid to the Decree 7 April, 2020, n. 150, which states that Italian ports, in time of pandemic, cannot be considered safe port…
Diritti individuali vs. scopi collettivi? I provvedimenti in materia di immigrazione al tempo della pandemia
2020
This paper analyses the interventions implemented in Italy in the field of immigration during the covid-19 emergency. The way in which they affect constitutive principles and fundamental rights, by opposing them to collective purposes is considered. The legal notion of “place of safety” is deepened to highlight the problematic nature of the Interministerial Decree 7 April 2020, n. 150 in terms of respect of fundamental rights and international law. Other legislative initiatives and praxis are taken into account as examples of a more general modality of intervention which, in the name of the protection of public health and safety, had controversial and unreasonable results also with respect …
Los resgos para el dereho en tiempos de pandemia: el ejemplo paradigmàtico de los puertos italianos declarados inseguros
2021
The coherence of the legal system becomes a particularly relevant and complex issue with regard to the conflicts that may arise between constitutional principles. From this perspective, the paper considers some immigration laws - and in particular the Ministerial Decree of 7 April 2020, which states that "for the entire duration of the national health emergency resulting from the spread of the COVID_19 virus, Italian ports do not ensure the necessary requirements for the classification and definition of Place of safety ("safe place") "- enacted by the Italian government in the most acute period of the health emergency connected to the spread of covid-19, by evaluating whether they, by affec…
Al-Ġazālī ed Ibn Taymiyya: la questione dei pii antenati
2019
Abstract The purpose of this article is to read, under a different light, the relationship between al-Ġazālī and Ibn Taymiyya thanks to the analysis of their writings (from Iḥyāʾ ʿulūm al-dīn to Ilǧām al-ʿawāmm ʿan ʿilm al-kalām) in order to find commonalities and differences in the ideological proposal of the two authors. In line with Michot, Hoover, Anjum and Rapoport, this article includes Ibn Taymiyya in the ideological debate of the Islamic thought and provides evidences in order to not consider him only as the forefather of radicalism and fundamentalism, but rather a complex and sophisticated jurist, theologue, thinker. A man of his time. This aim is reached by investigating the conce…
PFGE: importance in food quality.
2010
In late 19 century, great interest has arisen for food quality. This is referred as absence of pathogens in food (safety for consumers) and as nutritional quality of food (organoleptic characteristics). Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) is, among the molecular techniques developed in the last years, one of the most reliable, discriminative and reproducible technique. It can be used in clinical field for the identification of pathogens and the origin of outbreaks, and in food microbiology for the identification of pathogens (food borne disease surveillance) or of microorganisms responsible for the organoleptic characteristics of food. The present article shows some useful patents relat…

2016 WHO GLOBAL GUIDELINES FOR THE PREVENTION OF SURGICAL SITE INFECTION: A NEW STEP TO IMPROVE PATIENT'S SAFETY BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER SURGERY
2017
Surgical site infection (SSI) are among the most preventable health-care-associated infections and are a substantial burden to health-care systems and service payers worldwide in terms of patient morbidity, mortality, and additional costs. SSI prevention is complex and requires the integration of a range of measures before, during and after surgery. No international guidelines are available and incosistencies in the interpretations of evidence and recommendations of national guidelines have been identified. Given the burden of SSI worldwide, the numerous gaps in evidence-based guidance, and the need for standardisation and a global approach, WHO decided to prioritise the development of evid…
WORK ACTIVITIES AT INCREASED RISK OF TRAUMATIC INJURIES: AN INTEGRATED PREVENTIVE APPROACH
2022
Included in the scope of workplace safety is that relating to potential accidents, i.e. the harmful consequences for human health crossed with the work environment factor. In the study of the determinism of these accidental events, it is important to achieve a biomechanical balance between two main elements: the human and the work environment (consisting of the physical, chemical and environmental factors, i.e. the equipment and what generates its use). Considering the most recent statistically recorded incidents, our analysis has focused on the accident sphere proper, where an imbalance in the above-mentioned binomial triggers the activation of multiple disciplines that actively and pro-ac…
THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE FREE PORT OF MESSINA BETWEEN THE XVII AND XVIII CENTURIES. AN ONGOING RESEARCH AGENDA
2020
The paper outlines an ongoing study on the free port of Messina, in the context of the historiographical reappraisal on the establishment of free ports in the Mediterranean in the Early Modern Age. Adopting a diachronic approach, it summarizes the purposes and issues that affected its outcomes, from 1695 throughout the entire 18th century: its rules and the institutional turning points, the economic debates, and some critical issues like the franchise area, the trade of local goods (wheat, silk, oil), smuggling, mercantile justice and safe-conduct.
Beliefs and preferences regarding biological treatments for severe asthma
2020
Background: Severe asthma is a serious condition with a significant burden on patients' morbidity, mortality, and quality of life. Some biological therapies targeting the IgE and interleukin-5 (IL5) mediated pathways are now available. Due to the lack of direct comparison studies, the choice of which medication to use varies. We aimed to explore the beliefs and practices in the use of biological therapies in severe asthma, hypothesizing that differences will occur depending on the prescribers’ specialty and experience. Methods: We conducted an online survey composed of 35 questions in English. The survey was circulated via the INterasma Scientific Network (INESNET) platform as well as throu…
