Determination of active ingredients in cough-cold preparations by micellar liquid chromatography.

2000

The chromatographic behaviour of some active ingredients in cough-cold pharmaceutical preparations, the antihistamine chlorpheniramine (or the dextro enantiomer dexchlorpheniramine), and the phenethylamines phenylephrine, phenylpropanolamine and pseudoephedrine, has been studied using a C(18) column, micellar mobile phases of sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) and pentanol, and with UV detection. All possible combinations of chlorpheniramine/phenethylamine were resolved and determined using a mobile phase of 0.15 M SDS-6% (v/v) pentanol at pH 7, with analysis time below 7 min. Repeatabilities and within laboratory precisions were evaluated at four different drug concentrations in the range 0.5-2…

Biowaiver Monograph for Immediate-Release Solid Oral Dosage Forms: Ondansetron.

2019

Literature data pertaining to the physicochemical, pharmaceutical, and pharmacokinetic properties of ondansetron hydrochloride dihydrate are reviewed to arrive at a decision on whether a marketing authorization of an immediate release (IR) solid oral dosage form can be approved based on a Biopharmaceutics Classification System (BCS)-based biowaiver. Ondansetron, a 5HT3 receptor antagonist, is used at doses ranging from 4 mg to 24 mg in the management of nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and postoperative treatment. It is a weak base and thus exhibits pH-dependent solubility. However, it is able to meet the criteria of "high solubility" as well as "high permeabi…

Biologically based models of cancer risk in radiation research

2020

PURPOSE: In radiation risk analysis the state-of-the-art approach is based on descriptive models which link excess rates of cancer incidence and mortality to radiation exposure by statistical association. To estimate the number of sporadic and radiation-induced cases descriptive models apply parametric dose response function which directly determine the radiation risk. In biologically-based models of cancer risk (BBCR models) dose responses are implemented for key events on the biological level such as early mutations or clonal expansion of initiated cells. Influenced by radiation these events then shape the risk response on the epidemiological level. Although BBCR models facilitate a more …

Priority Levels Based Multi-hop Broadcasting Method for Vehicular Ad hoc Networks

2015

International audience; This paper deals with broadcasting problem in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs). This communication mode is commonly used for sending safety messages and traffic information. However, designing an efficient broadcasting protocol is hard to achieve since it has to take into account some parameters related to the network environment, for example, the network density, in order to avoid causing radio interferences. In this paper, we propose a novel Autonomic Dissemination Method (ADM) which delivers messages in accordance with given priority and density levels. The proposed approach is based on two steps: an offline optimization process and an adaptation to the network …

Identification of a novel recurrent 1q42.2-1qter deletion in high risk MYCN single copy 11q deleted neuroblastomas

2012

Neuroblastoma is an aggressive embryonal tumor that accounts for similar to 15% of childhood cancer deaths. Hitherto, despite the availability of comprehensive genomic data on DNA copy number changes in neuroblastoma, relatively little is known about the genes driving neuroblastoma tumorigenesis. In this study, high resolution array comparative genome hybridization (CGH) was performed on 188 primary neuroblastoma tumors and 33 neuroblastoma cell lines to search for previously undetected recurrent DNA copy number gains and losses. A new recurrent distal chromosome 1q deletion (del(1)(q42.2qter)) was detected in seven cases. Further analysis of available array CGH datasets revealed 13 additio…

Path integral method for first-passage probability determination of nonlinear systems under levy white noise

2015

In this paper the problem of the first-passage probabilities determination of nonlinear systems under alpha-stable Lévy white noises is addressed. Based on the properties of alpha-stable random variables and processes, the Path Integral method is extended to deal with nonlinear systems driven by Lévy white noises with a generic value of the stability index alpha. Furthermore, the determination of reliability functions and first-passage time probability density functions is handled step-by-step through a modification of the Path Integral technique. Comparison with pertinent Monte Carlo simulation reveals the excellent accuracy of the proposed method.

Emergence and Phylodynamics of Citrus tristeza virus in Sicily, Italy

2013

Citrus tristeza virus (CTV) outbreaks were detected in Sicily island, Italy for the first time in 2002. To gain insight into the evolutionary forces driving the emergence and phylogeography of these CTV populations, we determined and analyzed the nucleotide sequences of the p20 gene from 108 CTV isolates collected from 2002 to 2009. Bayesian phylogenetic analysis revealed that mild and severe CTV isolates belonging to five different clades (lineages) were introduced in Sicily in 2002. Phylogeographic analysis showed that four lineages co-circulated in the main citrus growing area located in Eastern Sicily. However, only one lineage (composed of mild isolates) spread to distant areas of Sici…

Improvement of ESR dosimetry for thermal neutron beams through the addition of gadolinium.

2007

In this paper, the addition of gadolinium is proposed as a useful tool to enhance the electron spin resonance (ESR) sensitivity of organic compounds to thermal neutrons. The target of this work is the detection, through the ESR technique, of the thermal neutron fluence in a mixed field of photons and neutrons. Gadolinium was chosen because it has a very high capture cross section to thermal neutrons; its nuclear reaction with thermal neutrons induces complex inner shell transitions that generate, besides other particles, Auger electrons, which in turn release their energy in the neighborhood (only several nanometers) of the place of reaction. Gadolinium was added to two organic molecules: a…

In COVID-19 Health Messaging, Loss Framing Increases Anxiety with Little-to-No Concomitant Benefits: Experimental Evidence from 84 Countries

2022

Contains fulltext : 284232.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) The COVID-19 pandemic (and its aftermath) highlights a critical need to communicate health information effectively to the global public. Given that subtle differences in information framing can have meaningful effects on behavior, behavioral science research highlights a pressing question: Is it more effective to frame COVID-19 health messages in terms of potential losses (e.g., "If you do not practice these steps, you can endanger yourself and others") or potential gains (e.g., "If you practice these steps, you can protect yourself and others")? Collecting data in 48 languages from 15,929 participants in 84 countries, we…
