Non-Equilibrium Thermodinamic analysis of rotating counterflow superfluid turbulence
2008
Two alternative evolution equations for the vortex line density L in counterflow superfluid turbulence in 4He were proposed by Vinen in 1958. These equations was recently generalized to counterflow superfluid turbulence in rotating containers. Here, according with the formalism of Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics, the compatibility between the alternative Vinen equation as evolution equation for the vortex line density in rotating counterflow turbulence and the velocity of the superfluid component is studied. From the compatibility request a new term dependent on the anisotropy of the tangle arises.
On the use of the absorbed depth-dose measurements in the beam calibration of a surface electronic high-dose-rate brachytherapy unit, a Monte Carlo-b…
2019
PURPOSE To evaluate the use of the absorbed depth-dose as a surrogate of the half-value layer in the calibration of a high-dose-rate electronic brachytherapy (eBT) equipment. The effect of the manufacturing tolerances and the absorbed depth-dose measurement uncertainties in the calibration process are also addressed. METHODS The eBT system Esteya® (Elekta Brachytherapy, Veenendaal, The Netherlands) has been chosen as a proof-of-concept to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed method, using its 10 mm diameter applicator. Two calibration protocols recommended by the AAPM (TG-61) and the IAEA (TRS-398) for low-energy photon beams were evaluated. The required Monte Carlo (MC) simulations w…
Different Dissolution Media Lead to Different Crystal Structures of Talinolol with Impact on Its Dissolution and Solubility
2003
During the performance of dissolution tests with immediate and controlled-release talinolol tablets it was detected that the type of the buffer used as dissolution medium had a strong influence on the solubility and the dissolution behavior of the drug. It was proven that talinolol appeared in different crystal structures with strongly differing solubilities when pure water, acetate, or phosphate buffers were employed as dissolution media. The resulting crystal structures were characterized by means of light microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and X-ray powder diffraction. All methods were adjuvant to detect changes in talinolol crystal structures. The different solubility and di…
Reversible effect of MR and ELF magnetic fields (0.5 T and 0.5 mT) on human lymphocyte activation patterns.
2006
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of magnetic fields (MF) of different intensity generated by a magnetic resonance (MR) unit (0.5 Tesla) and a double cylindrical coil (0.5 mTesla) on human CD4+ T cell lines. Materials and methods: CD4+ T cells were exposed for two hours under isothermal conditions (37 ± 0.5°C) to the above mentioned MF; a control group was provided for each exposed sample. After exposure, the samples were analysed in the laboratory for the following endpoints: Release of cytokines, expression of surface markers, cell proliferation and levels of cytosolic free-calcium. Results: Exposure to MF for 2 h and subsequent in vitro stimulation in the pres…
Reconfiguration du modèle conjugal à l'heure de l'hyperconnectivité : TIC et territoires de l'intime
2014
Online devices are part of our daily lives, fundamentally changing our habits and practices, especially as regards relationships as well as interpersonal and social communication. In this doctoral research, the aim was to analyse the ways in which Information and CommunicationTechnologies (ICTs) have somehow ‘reshaped’ the traditional conjugal model.Indeed, more than just technical devices, ICTs are communicational and even ‘transitional’devices. They are means of strategies and issues within the couple and the family. Theseincreasingly nomadic technologies question the couple regarding its foundations. First ofall, the phenomenon of hyper connectivity (or ‘continuous connectivity’) creates a…
Innovative visual design to assure information for all in transportation
2014
ICAP 2014, 28th International Congress of Applied Psychology, PARIS, FRANCE, 08-/07/2014 - 13/07/2014; This research aims to propose alternative visual design of audio railway disruption announcements in order at reducing handicap situations encountered by travelers who can't hear or understand oral messages (deaf, hearing-impaired or foreign people). Five announcements were translated into two visual modes: in French sign language (with a sign language avatar named Jade) and in animated graphical designs. Different combinations were tested in order to find the better compromise between spatial and temporal organization for the both visual messages. For spatial parameter, messages were eith…
Monte Carlo calculation of the TG-43 dosimetric parameters of a new BEBIG Ir-192 HDR source
2005
Background and purpose: High dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy is a highly extended practice in clinical brachytherapy today. Quality dose rate distribution datasets of the HDR sources used in a clinical treatment are required. Because of the different source designs, a specific dosimetry dataset is required for each source model. In the recently published BRAPHYQS-ESTRO Report, an overview of available dosimetric data for all HDR Ir-192 sources is given, pointing out the lack of data for one of the sources that is used by the BEBIG MultiSource afterloading system (BEBIG GmbH, Germany). The purpose of this study is to obtain detailed dose rate distributions in liquid water media around this sou…
Taste Perception Profiles and Adiposity in Older Adults with Metabolic Syndrome – PREDIMED-Plus
2020
OBJECTIVES: In humans, perception for each taste (sweet, salt, sour, bitter and umami) has been independently related to food preferences and intake. Yet, the collective influence of perception of all 5 tastes on diet and cardiometabolic health remains unexplored. Therefore, our objective was to investigate the relations between a collective measure of taste perception – “taste perception profiles” – and adiposity. METHODS: We analyzed baseline data of 367 older adults (55–75 years; 55% female) with metabolic syndrome (MetS) participating in the PREDIMED-Plus Valencia trial. Taste perception was assessed for sweet, salt, sour, bitter and umami using sucrose, NaCl, citric acid, phenylthiocar…
