Scialoadeniti ostruttive.Aggiornamento in tema di diagnosi e di terapia

2006

In head and neck district, major salivary gland diseases seem to have a considerable epidemiological and clinical impact, especially in obstructive disease. Major salivary glands, in fact, having a ductal system can develop several diseases: sialoadenitis, sialodochitis and sialoceles. Particularly, the obstructive sialoadenitis, with or without sialolithiasis, are the most frequent inflammatory disorder, especially for submandibular gland. In the clinical practice, the diagnostic approach for obstructive sialoadenitis up to now consisted of traditional Rx, ultrasonographic technique, scintigraphy technique, C.T., sialography technique with contrast or sialography M.R. Since '9O years, lith…

A retrospective analysis of oral and maxillofacial pathology in a pediatric population from Rio de Janeiro?Brazil over a 75-year period

2018

Background The aim of this study was to analyze the distribution of oral and maxillofacial lesions affecting children and adolescents patients from a single oral pathology laboratory from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Material and Methods Oral and maxillofacial lesions biopsied in patients younger than 19-years were retrieved from the oral pathology files of the Department of Oral Diagnosis and Pathology, School of Dentistry, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro over a 75-year period (1942-2017). The clinical data and the diagnoses of each case were included in a Microsoft Excel® database, being classified into 13 categories according to the etiology. A descriptive analysis of the variables age, …

SAT0374 IL-36A Axis is Modulated in Patients with Primary Sjogren's Syndrome and Implicated in the Regulation of Gamma-Delta T Cells Immune Functions

2015

Background IL-36a is a cytokine that predominantly acts on naive CD4+ T cells and gamma-delta T cells via the IL-36 receptor. IL-36a has been recently demonstrated to be involved in human disease, such as psoriasis, by modulating innate and adaptive immune responses. Objectives In this study we aimed to investigate the expression of IL-36 axis and to assess the role of γδ T cells in patients with primary Sjogren9s syndrome (pSS). Methods Blood and minor labial salivary glands (MSG) biopsies were obtained from 35 pSS and 20 nSS patients. Serum IL-36a was assayed by ELISA. IL-36a, IL-36R, IL-36RA, IL-38, IL-22, IL-17, IL-23p19, expression in MSGs was assessed by rt-PCR and tissue IL-36a and I…

Seltene Parotistumoren

2003

Tumors of the parotid gland can be benign or malignant lesions. The pathophysiology of rare tumors of the parotid gland is often not sufficiently explored. In this paper two rare histological entities are described. In one patient a benign sebaceous lymphadenoma was histologically diagnosed. This type of tumor accounts for only 0.1% of all adenomas. The international literature is not conclusive about whether the tumor originates in the parotid gland itself or in the parotid lymph nodes. The second patient presented with a metastasis from a glioblastoma in the parotid gland. Again, the mechanism for metastasis of an intracerebral tumor to the parotid gland remains unknown. Iatrogenic seeding …

The Chaperone System in Salivary Glands: Hsp90 Prospects for Differential Diagnosis and Treatment of Malignant Tumors

2022

Salivary gland tumors represent a serious medical problem and new tools for differential diagnosis and patient monitoring are needed. Here, we present data and discuss the potential of molecular chaperones as biomarkers and therapeutic targets, focusing on Hsp10 and Hsp90. The salivary glands are key physiological elements but, unfortunately, the information and the means available for the management of their pathologies, including cancer, are scarce. Progress in the study of carcinogenesis has occurred on various fronts lately, one of which has been the identification of the chaperone system (CS) as a physiological system with presence in all cells and tissues (including the salivary gland…

Salivary gland proteins alterations in the diabetic milieu

2021

AbstractSalivary glands are considered the chief exocrine glands of the mouth and physiologically contribute to the maintenance of the homeostasis of the oral cavity. They consist of the parotid, submandibular and sublingual glands, which come in pairs and are collectively called the major glands, and the minor glands, which are much smaller and are dispersed throughout the buccal cavity. Salivary glands are distinguished by their size, amount of saliva secretion and their location in the oral cavity. Salivary glands pathophysiology has been a subject of interest in various worldwide metabolic disorders, including diabetes mellitus. Diabetes mellitus (DM), a global health concern, with a pa…

Expression of gelatinases (MMP-2, MMP-9) and cyclooxygenases (COX-1, COX-2) in some benign salivary gland tumors.

2012

Salivary gland tumors, most of which are rare benign tumors, represent a histologically heterogenous group with the greatest diversity of morphological and cellular features. The aim of this study is to analyse the expression and possible interactions between gelatinases (MMP-2, MMP-9) and cyclooxygenases (COX-1, COX-2) in some benign salivary gland tumors. We investigated the expression of gelatinases and cyclooxigenases in control salivary gland, Pleomorphic adenoma and Warthin's tumor through immunohistochemistry and Reverse Transcription – Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). We identified the expression of both classes of enzyme in normal samples and in the two types of pathological sampl…
