Using a phone-based learning tool as an instructional resource for initial literacy learning in rural African families

2020

Background: Despite increased enrolments at primary schools in Zambia, more than half of the children in Grades 1–4 are unable to meet the required minimum standards for literacy. Aim: The study set out to examine the effects of using a phone-based mobile literacy game (Graphogame) to improve literacy skills in children and adults in rural family settings. Setting: The study was conducted in the Katete District, a rural town in the eastern province of Zambia. Methods: Participants were 73 Grade 2 learners (52% boys, mean age 9 years and 48% girls, mean age 10 years) and 37 parents (mean age 36 years). Three literacy tests, measuring letter-sound identification, phonological awareness, spell…

Autora tiesības atsaukt darbu kā drauds mantisko tiesību ieguvei

2018

Experimental generalized quantum suppression law in Sylvester interferometers

2017

Photonic interference is a key quantum resource for optical quantum computation, and in particular for so-called boson sampling machines. In interferometers with certain symmetries, genuine multiphoton quantum interference effectively suppresses certain sets of events, as in the original Hong-Ou-Mandel effect. Recently, it was shown that some classical and semi-classical models could be ruled out by identifying such suppressions in Fourier interferometers. Here we propose a suppression law suitable for random-input experiments in multimode Sylvester interferometers, and verify it experimentally using 4- and 8-mode integrated interferometers. The observed suppression is stronger than what is…

Initial validation of the Psychobiosocial States in Physical Education (PBS-SPE) scale

2018

The purpose of this cross-sectional investigation was to examine the item characteristics, factor structure, reliability, convergent validity, and nomological validity of the Psychobiosocial States in Physical Education (PBS-SPE) scale. In Study 1, a sample of 1,030 students (582 girls and 448 boys, 10 to 19-year-olds), drawn from middle or high schools, rated the intensity of the 20 items version of the PBS-SPE scale thinking about the feelings they had usually experienced in physical education classes. In Study 2, an additional sample of 1,025 students (578 girls, 447 boys, 10 to 19-year-olds), rated the 16 items of the final version of the scale. Two subsamples also completed an affectiv…

Deepening Inside the Pictorial Layers of Etruscan Sarcophagus of Hasti Afunei: An Innovative Micro-Sampling Technique for Raman/SERS Analyses

2019

The Hasti Afunei sarcophagus is a large Etruscan urn, made up of two chalky alabaster monoliths. Dated from the last quarter of the third century BC, it was found in 1826 in the small town of Chiusi (Tuscany- Il Colle place) by a landowner, Pietro Bonci Casuccini, who made it part of his private collection. Zvērinātu tiesa izpildītāja piemērojamie piespiedu izpildes līdzekļu piedziņas procesā pret fizisku personu.

2020

Vērtējot tiesu praksi, publikācijas piespiedu izpildes jautājumos un nacionālo izpildes procesa regulējumu salīdzinājumā ar ārvalstīm joprojām vērojamas nepilnības nolēmumu izpildes jomā. Darba mērķis ir, pirmkārt, noteikt samērīguma principa interpretācijas robežas, kas ir izpildes procesa pamatuzdevums, līdzsvarojot piedzinēja tiesības saņemt no parādnieka izpildījumu un parādnieka tiesiskās intereses, kas izriet no īpašuma tiesībām, otrkārt, norobežot tiesu izpildītāja, piedzinēja un parādnieka procesuālās darbības izpildes procesā un, treškārt, noteikt priekšnoteikumus piespiedu līdzekļu piemērošanai, aplūkojot to problemātiku. Darba rezultātā autore secina, ka normu interpretācijas ceļ…

Typification of five plant names described based on specimens collected by Józef Warszewicz in Central and South America.

2022

Józef Warszewicz (1812–1864) was one of the first Polish naturalists to explore the flora of the tropical New World. During two expeditions to Central and South America (1844–1850 and 1850–1853) he collected and delivered to Europe up to twenty thousand plant specimens. To honour his service and his achievements in plant collections, different taxonomists described more than 100 taxa using the surname Warszewicz, for example in the genus name (Warszewiczia) and the species epithets (warszewiczii, warscewiczii, warszewicziana). Unfortunately, a large part of Warszewicz’s collection of plant species deposited in the Berlin Herbarium (B), including many type specimens was destroyed during Worl…

Polak Europejczyk z obawami

2017

„Polak Europejczyk z obawami” to tytuł artykułu na temat stopnia zakorzenienia poczucia tożsamości europejskiej w społeczeństwie polskim i szerzej w społeczeństwach Europy środkowo-wschodniej.
