Combined effect of low-molecular-weight organic acids and creosote on phosphatase activities in sandy soil

This paper assesses the impact of creosote and low-molecular-weight organic acids (LMWOAs) on the activity of acid phosphomonoesterase, alkaline phosphomonoesterase, phosphotriesterase, and inorganic pyrophosphatase in soil. The experiment was carried out on loamy sand samples with organic carbon content of 8.71 g · kg -1 , with the following variable factors: dosages of creosote: 0, 0.5%, and 2.5%; type of LMWOAs: oxalic acid, tartaric acid, and citric acid in the amount of 50 mmol · kg -1 of soil; days of experiment: 1, 7, 14, 28, 56, 112. Is a seminar based on student-created screen capture videos a meaningful way of learning?

We ran a problem-based seminar with screen capture videos. The students worked in small groups of two or three students or they completed the coursework individually. In this seminar the students had a workspace in the Optima environment for publishing their coursework videos. At the final phase of the course the students were expected to familiarize themselves with the presentations of other groups. In this paper we analyze the benefit of our problem-based coursework on the web by comparing the different phases of it. In my case study, I used two composing tasks to examine how the inclusive composing method (OSM) I have developed promotes the achievement of the aims of the new core curriculum for basic education 2014 and realises the core metaphors of learning. Comparing male and female students’ self-efficacy and self-regulation skills in two undergraduate mathematics course contexts

International audience; Students' efficacy beliefs have a positive influence on students' academic achievement and retention, especially for female students. These beliefs are closely linked to students' ability to regulate their learning. In this quantitative study, students' self-efficacy and self-regulation of learning are compared in two university mathematics courses that differ in content but also in their pedagogical setting: one is a more traditional lecture-based course, and the other course is taught with the Extreme Apprenticeship (XA) method. Inhibition of denitrification and N2O emission by urine-derived benzoic and hippuric acid

Abstract Hippuric acid (HA) in cattle urine acts as a natural inhibitor of soil N2O emissions. As HA concentration varies with diet, we determined critical HA levels. We also tested the hypothesis that the inhibition occurs because the HA breakdown product benzoic acid (BA) inhibits denitrification rates. During a 64-day incubation, we quantified emissions from artificial urine varying in HA, BA and glycine (Gly) concentrations, added to a sandy pasture soil. Increasing HA concentration from 0.4 to 5.6 mmol kg−1 soil significantly decreased the average N2O flux by 54%. In this article we considere the reasons for evaluating the educational system. The quality of education is a preoccupation of the governments, specially in time of crisis and of educational reforms and this quality needs and evaluation of all the educational system. In Spain the National Institute of Quality and Evaluation has been recently created in order to carry out this evaluation. We reflect about the subject and also about the methods and the agents of this evaluation. We ask for a democratic and cooperative evaluation.
