AbstractThis article presents an innovative experience which links grammar teaching with writing, following the premises of the Grammar Didactic Sequences (GDS) with one basic objective: to create a situation in which students learn to reflect on the language they use and are able to use these reflections to improve their writing. The PISA program uses this kind of task-oriented reading situation to evaluate reading literacy, which is also a common reading situation in educational settings. This article describes the progress and findings of a collaborative action research project on the cultural dimension in primary levels of EFL education in Valencia (Spain). The balance between family and student life, viewed as the possibility of being a mother and university student at the same time, is still not seen as something usual in higher education. This leads to discrimination against student mothers compared with other students. In this study, using a qualitative, narrative-based methodology based on semi-structured interviews, we analysed the beliefs and attitudes of a total of 73 university students.
