La formación del futuro docente a través de la interdisciplinariedad y la educación integral
2020
The Plastic Expression and the Musical Expression have a special relevance for the integral formation of the students of Early Childhood Education. Training in or from these areas of knowledge should be continued in the next stage, Primary Education, through the study of the so-called Area of Artistic Education (includes the subjects of Plastic and Music). The future teachers of Early Childhood Education should consider training in artistic education not only as an interrelated whole that guarantees the integral formation of the students of this educational stage, but as tools that favor and enhance the development of all fundamental areas (cognitive, motor, linguistics, etc.). This article…
The role of individual processes and learning environment in the prediction of grades in a sample of Norwegian students
2018
Student grades are traditionally used to evaluate academic achievement in higher education. A review of previous research indicates a relatively clear tendency to adopt either an individual or contextual approach in exploring this subject. The present study represents an attempt to simultaneously examine effects of individual variables and learning environment on academic achievements as measured in grades. The study adopts a quantitative approach and reports data collected from students enrolled in early childhood education in a mid-sized university in Norway. Results of a stepwise hierarchical regression demonstrate that individual variables (e.g. nonmandatory school attendance, self-effi…
Finnish model of peer-group mentoring: review of research.
2019
This article reviews research on the Finnish model of peer‐group mentoring (PGM). The theoretical foundation of the model is based on the constructivist theory of learning, the concept of autonomy in teaching profession, peer learning, and narrative identity work. The model has been disseminated nationwide in the educational sector to promote professional development of teachers and educational staff, mainly in primary and secondary education, but also in early childhood education and higher education. The thematic review is based on 46 peer‐reviewed publications about PGM in Finland in 2009–2019. Research has focused on the following main themes: (1) general aspects and characteristics of …

COEDU-IN Project: an inclusive co-educational project for teaching computational thinking and digital skills at early ages
2021
Learning to program is the new literacy of the 21st century. Computational thinking, closely related to programming, requires thinking and solving problems with different levels of abstraction and is independent of hardware devices. The early childhood education stage provides teachers with the opportunity to lay the foundations for a comprehensive quality education using innovative tools and technologies. Educational robotics in early childhood education becomes a tool that facilitates the acquisition of knowledge to children, playfully, based on the principles of interactivity, social interrelationships, collaborative work, creativity, constructivist and constructionist learning, and a st…

Towards an integration of individualistic, networked, and institutional approaches to online disclosure and privacy in a networked ecology
2020
In this paper, we review three different approaches to disclosure and privacy: a) an individualistic approach, which emphasizes an individual's control over information access and flow, b) a networked approach focused on information flow in horizontal relations between people, and c) an institutional approach concerned with public and societal privacy risks from platforms, providers, and governments. These approaches co-exist largely independently of each other in privacy and disclosure literature. However, with overlapping public and private spheres of communication where a presumption of individual agency over personal information is no longer tenable, we argue for the importance of bridg…

Barriers and drivers of innovation in higher education: Case study-based evidence across ten European universities
2017
Abstract The paper advances current knowledge on factors affecting higher education institutions in their quest for innovation in education. Based on an analysis of ten institutional cases from five European countries, a comprehensive description and classification of barriers and drivers of innovation are provided. Results indicate certain “disengagement” in relation of higher education institutions and education policy makers, business, and students as well as between higher education institutions’ managers and their subordinates. Based on the findings, major innovation-related challenges in the higher education are discussed and related practical recommendations are presented.
