Two new triterpene saponins from Eryngium campestre.

2005

Two new triterpene saponins, 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-->2)-[alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1-->4)]-beta-D-glucuronopyranosyl-22-O-angeloyl-R1-barrigenol (1) and 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-->2)-[alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1-->4)]-beta-D-glucuronopyranosyl-22-O-beta,beta-dimethylacryloyl-A1-barrigenol (2), were isolated from the roots of Eryngium campestre (Apiaceae). Their structures were established mainly by 2D NMR techniques and mass spectrometry.

Accumulation of metals and changes in composition of freshwater lake organic sediments during the Holocene

2020

Abstract The distribution of metals in the strata of sediments deposited in the freshwater environment formed during the Holocene in the territory of Latvia has been studied rather insufficiently. Considering the large volume of accumulated organic matter in sediments, studies on the content of metallic elements in sediments can help to determine the peculiarities of the metal accumulation process in limnic systems and the biogeochemical cycling of metals. Lake Pilvelis, which is located in the eastern part of Latvia (the northern part of Europe), was selected as the main study site. Lake Pilvelis is a small lake of a glacial origin, and >90% of its depression is filled with organic-rich se…

Different metabolic behavior of long-chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in human platelets.

1988

Abstract Whereas numerous studies deal with the effects and metabolism of eicosapentaenoic acid (20:5( n −3)) in platelets, very few concern docosahexaenoic acid (22:6( n −3)), although both acids are consumed in equal amounts from most fish fat. The present paper reports the modulation of 22:6( n −3) oxygenation as well as that of endogenous arachidonic acid (20:4( n −6)) in 22:6( n −3)-rich platelets. Like the oxygenation of 20:5( n −3), the lipoxygenation of 22:6( n −3) occurred at a low level when incubated alone, but was markedly increased in the presence of 20:4( n −6), suggesting a similar peroxide tone dependency. 20:5( n −3) could not replace 20:4( n −6) in the increasing 22:6( n −…

Determination of sterols, oxysterols, and fatty acids of phospholipids in cells and lipoproteins: A one-sample method

1998

In addition to fatty acids, especially polyunsaturated species, cholesterol oxidizes and leads to various oxygenated derivatives, named oxysterols. They display a wide range of adverse biological properties. Monitoring oxysterols is important in the evaluation of the potential risks associated with lipid oxidation. In the present study, a quick and reliable method was developed for analysis of oxysterols, sterols, and fatty acid composition of phospholipids in the same biological sample. Total lipid extraction was determined after addition of several internal standards (epicoprostanol for sterols, 19-hydroxy-cholesterol for oxysterol and di-heptadecanoyl-phosphatidylcholine for phospholipid…

Metabolic effects of omega-3 fatty acids.

2001

Some metabolic effects of dietary marine oils, or of dietary eicosapentaenoic or docosahexaenoic acid are reviewed. It is pointed out that docosahexaenoic acid appears more effective as regards induction of peroxisomal beta-oxidation. Similarly, docosahexaenoic appears more powerful in terms of suppression of hepatic delta9-desaturase activity and mRNA-levels. The potential inhibitory effect of polyunsaturated fatty acids, particularly docosahexaenoic acid, on mitochondrial beta-oxidation is discussed. Experiments with rats suggesting that the hypolipidaemic response of eicosapentaenoic acid is more marked when the fatty acid was given to fed rats, as compared to fasted rats, are discussed.

UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI DARI ESTRAK TUMBUHAN AKWAY (Drimys beccariana. Gibbs)

2010

The plant Akway (Drimys beccariana.Gibbs) is endemic to Papua and is frequently used traditionally by the Arfak tribe as a medicinal plant. We extract the plant by maceration with ethanol. The antibacterial test is done by Agar diffusion method. As microba test we used Escheresia coli and Bacillus subtilis. Result obtained from fitochemistry skrinning of the leaf and bark contained alkaloid, flavonoid, steroid, tannin, glikosida, saponin, triterpenoid, steroid and fenolik. Concentration of active substances from the leaf are flavonoid (0,3680%) and tanin (10.33 %); while from the bark flavonoid 18.35% and tanin (27.65%). Antibacterial test showed…

EXTRACTION OF BIOLOGICALLY ACTIVE COMPONENTS FROM FRESHWATER SAPROPEL

2019

Sapropel has been used for different purposes - in agriculture as fertilizer, in construction as building material, in cosmetic products, in balneology also in medicine and pharmaceuticals as bioactive component. Previously sapropel has been commonly used in raw form and there is no general accepted method or standard method for obtaining sapropel extract. However, most extraction methods follow the same path. Currently, there are few extraction methods using several extractants for obtaining bioactive components from raw sapropel. The most commonly used extractant is alkaline solution. When sapropel is subjected to alkaline environment, the humic and fulvic acids, together with some lipids…

A new oleanane glycoside from the roots ofAstragalus caprinus

2006

A novel oleanane-type triterpene saponin (1) together with two known molecules, soyasapogenol B and astragaloside VIII were isolated from the roots of Astragalus caprinus. Their structural elucidation was performed mainly by 2D NMR techniques (COSY, TOCSY, NOESY, HSQC, HMBC) and mass spectrometry. Compound 1 was determined as 3-O-[alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 --> 2)-beta-D-glucuronopyranosyl]-22-O-beta-D-apiofuranosyl-soyasapogenol B.

Moss cell cultures as sources of arachidonic and eicosapentaenoic acids

1986

AbstractLipid classes from tissue cultures of the moss Leptobryum pyriforme (Hedw.) Wils. were analyzed. In the total lipid fraction, this species contained 20% arachidonic acid and about 7% eicosapentaenoic acid. The distribution of these fatty acids showed a preference for the phospholipid fraction. In particular, the phosphatidylethanolamine fraction was enriched in arachidonic acid. The arachidonic acid content of Leptobryum could be altered by transferring the cultures to different culture conditions. Mosses show high organic mass production in tissue cultures in relatively simple media. The great potential of using mosses as sources for the production of polyunsaturated fatty acids is…
