A Study on Change Leadership : The Case of Non-Profit Volunteer Organizations
2018
Master's thesis Business Administration BE501 - University of Agder 2018 Volunteer non-profit organizations face changes continually, as well as the private and public sector (Moran and Brightman 2000, p.66; Burnes, 2004). Leading change is an essential part of leadership for organizations that wish to stay fresh and up to date. These non-profit organizations have a social/humanitarian mission objective, are usually owned by their members, and instead of seeking financial profits, they often desire social/humanitarian impact. The difference between non-profit, for-profit, and public organizations could affect the way organizations should handle challenges and changes in non-profit organizat…
Strategiimplementering i offentlig sektor
2017

Master´s thesis in Business Administration (BE 501) The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of perceived flexibility and work-home interaction on life satisfaction. The lack of previous research, on the direct connections between the variables, perceived flexibility, and life satisfaction, resulted in the purpose of this study. Work-home interaction has indications of connection to both perceived flexibility and life satisfaction (Hill et al., 2001: Clark, 2000: Vodanovich et al., 2006), and was of that reason presented as a possible mediator. Based on this, hypotheses regarding the relationship between the variables were created. In order to test the seven hypotheses, the method …

Master´s thesis in Business Administration (BE501) This thesis expands upon the debate surrounding the paper of DeMiguel, Garlappi &Uppal (2009). We investigate the performance of optimized strategies compared to the naive 1/N rule while controlling for data-snooping. Using the Sharpe ratio and theFFC4 alpha as performance measures, we investigate 10 basic portfolio strategies with datasets from the US and Norwegian markets. We attempt to answer two weaknesses of previous studies on the topic by accounting for data-snooping using White’s RealityCheck (WRC) and the Superior Predictive Ability (SPA) test. In addition, we include the alpha measure in order to account for the established factor…

Master's thesis Business Administration BE501 - University of Agder 2018 In this thesis, we explore the “dark side” of projectification. Working on projects have become an increasing trend and preferred way of working in most types of businesses and industries. This transition is described as being among the most significant changes in modern organisations. Critical studies, focused on the subject have emphasised some noteworthy, but perhaps blocked existential consequences for individuals involved in project work. This thesis, therefore, aims to add to this field of research and uncover the negative aspects of project work and its effects on the individual project worker’s emotions in a pr…

”To be or not to be” successful in a merger between performing arts organizations : a case study of Kilden Performing Arts Centre
2016
Master thesis Business Administration BE501 - University of Agder 2016 Thousands of organizations are merging every year, even though the consensus among scholars is that most, or at least a large part of them fail. And after decades of research into mergers there is no clear consensus as to what it would take to have a successful merger, all though many agree on a handful of success factors being important. Even though there is a vast amount of research on mergers in general, I have found almost nothing about mergers in the performing arts industry. My thesis is looking into this industry, and what it takes to merge successfully here compared to other industries. I try to give an answer to…

Organizations face increasingly dynamic, uncertain and complex business environments.Projects have emerged as a reaction to these environmental challenges. This thesis aim is to obtain a better understating on how social processes affect project performance in international projects. We expand the existing research on international projects by considering project complexity and national-culture diversity as having moderating effects on project performance. Media is posited to have a mediating effect on the relationship between social processes and project performance. In this thesis, a hierarchical component model was applied with reflective lower-order constructs and formative higher-order co…
