Iron and pH regulating the photochemical mineralization of dissolved organic carbon

Solar radiation mineralizes dissolved organic matter (DOM) to dissolved inorganic carbon through photochemical reactions (DIC photoproduction) that are influenced by iron (Fe) and pH. This study addressed as to what extent Fe contributes to the optical properties of the chromophoric DOM (CDOM) and DIC photoproduction at different pH values. We created the associations of Fe and DOM (Fe-DOM) that cover the range of loadings of Fe on DOM and pH values found in freshwaters. The introduced Fe enhanced the light absorption by CDOM independent of pH. Simulated solar irradiation decreased the light absorption by CDOM (i.e., caused photobleaching). Digital Islamophobia: The Swedish woman as a figure of pure and dangerous whiteness

This article addresses the digital culture of Islamophobic bloggers, focusing on the online circulation of a forensic photograph of a Swedish woman who was assaulted. The analysis shows how through appropriating this image, the bloggers created a unifying, imagined whiteness in the transnational Islamophobic network. The empirical analysis clarifies how this one image migrated and transformed in the blogosphere and legitimated the recurrent discursive trope of “Muslim rape.” This image became a subcultural “memory freeze frame” crystallizing the contemporary Islamophobic ideologies articulated in connection to race, ethnicity, nation, gender, and sexuality. Tutkielma käsittelee taikuuden- ja noituudenharjoittamista Ylä-Satakunnassa 1600-luvulla sekä 1700-luvun ensimmäisellä puoliskolla. Ylä-Satakunnan osalta näin kattavaa tutkimusta ei taikuudesta ja noituudesta ole aiemmin tehty. Vaikka alkuperäisaineisto muodostuu oikeuden pöytäkirjoista, tutkielmassa tarkastellaan taikuutta ja noituutta osana ihmisten arkea, eikä niinkään oikeudellisesta näkökulmasta. Säilyneen aineiston perusteella Ylä-Satakunnassa käytiin vuosina 1623–1750 69 taikuus- ja noituusoikeudenkäyntiä, joissa syytettyjä oli noin sata. Yli puolet syytetyistä oli miehiä.
