Microprocessor-Based Suboptimal Control of Converter-Fed Hypo-Hypersynchronous Cascade Drives
1983
Abstract This work consists of a theoretic and experimental study of a possible practical realization of a microprocessor-based control system using a converter-fed hypo-hypersynchronous cascade drive. Firstly, the design of a microprocessor-based controller is carried out considering an approximate mathematical model, linear-type, of the drive in question, by using optimal control techniques. Several ρhysical constraints, such as input variables con straints, state variables constraints and processing time of microprocessor are taken into account. The approach followed allows us to obtain a suboptimal closed-looρ control system. In addition, in order to carry out a more accurate study of t…
Finite-Difference Time-Domain Simulation of Towers Cascade Under Lightning Surge Conditions
2015
In this paper, the simulation of towers cascade under lightning surge conditions is presented. Finite-difference time-domain method is used to solve both the Maxwell's and telegraph equations. Maxwell's equations and the time-domain resistivity model of Darveniza are used to simulate the nonlinear behavior of the grounding system. Telegraph equations are used to describe the propagation in the overhead lines. Multiple ionizations, on different grounding electrodes belonging to various towers, can be implemented simultaneously, without making assumptions on the shape of the ionized areas.
Cyber Security for Wireless Semantic (SCADA/DCS) Systems
2016
International audience; Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition and Distributed Control Systems named (SCADA/DCS) have played a key role in the design of modern power smart applications, particularly in the automatic management of real time energetic platforms. In this work, we present a semantic cyber security vulnerabilities add to classic one, with the use of semantic embedded application in smart devices in semantic wireless (SCADA/DCS) systems, focusing on the semantic attacks. In this work, we present a new security semantic wireless protocol as a secure communication support for these modern semantic wireless systems named (ZIGBEE/SOAP/SECURITY), obtained by the combination between …
Subsecond pore‐scale displacement processes and relaxation dynamics in multiphase flow
2014
With recent advances at X‐ray microcomputed tomography (μCT) synchrotron beam lines, it is now possible to study pore‐scale flow in porous rock under dynamic flow conditions. The collection of four‐dimensional data allows for the direct 3‐D visualization of fluid‐fluid displacement in porous rock as a function of time. However, even state‐of‐the‐art fast‐μCT scans require between one and a few seconds to complete and the much faster fluid movement occurring during that time interval is manifested as imaging artifacts in the reconstructed 3‐D volume. We present an approach to analyze the 2‐D radiograph data collected during fast‐μCT to study the pore‐scale displacement dynamics on the time s…
A combined experimental and theoretical study of the thermal [3+2] cycloaddition of carbonyl ylides with activated alkenes
2018
International audience; 4-Benzoyl-3,5-diaryltetrahydrofuran-2,2-dicarbonitriles were first synthesized from 2,2-dicyano-3-aryloxiranes and chalcones at toluene reflux; the 4,5-cis products proved to be predominantly formed and were isolated. Whereas shortened reaction times were observed by using microwave irradiation or catalytic cuprous chloride, no significant stereoselectivity change was in general noticed. Reacting 2,2-dicyano-3-aryloxiranes with 2-cyclopentenone next afforded 3-aryl-4-oxohexahydro-1H-cyclopenta[c]furan-1,1-dicarbonitriles, and the endo stereoisomers were isolated. That no stereoselectivity change was noticed in the presence of cuprous chloride rather suggests an impac…
Scad-elastic net and the estimation of individual tourism expenditure determinants
2014
This paper introduces the use of scad-elastic net in the assessment of the determinants of individual tourist spending. This technique approaches two main estimation-related issues of primary importance. So far studies of tourism literature have made a wide use of classic regressions, whose results might be affected by multicollinearity. In addition, because of the absence of robust economic theory on tourism behavior, regressor selection is often left to researcher's choice when not driven by non-optimal automatic criteria. Scad-elastic net is an OLS model that accounts for both these problems by including two types of parameters constraints, namely the smoothly clipped absolute deviation …
Understanding the domino reaction between 3-chloroindoles and methyl coumalate yielding carbazoles. A DFT study.
2014
The molecular mechanism of the reaction between N-methyl-3-chloroindole and methyl coumalate yielding carbazole has been studied using DFT methods at the MPWB1K/6-311G(d,p) level in toluene. This reaction is a domino process that comprises three consecutive reactions: (i) a polar Diels-Alder (P-DA) reaction between indole and methyl coumalate yielding two stereoisomeric [2 + 4] cycloadducts (CAs); (ii) the elimination of HCl from these CAs affording two stereoisomeric intermediates; and (iii) the extrusion of CO2 in these intermediates, finally yielding the carbazole. This P-DA reaction proceeds in a completely regioselective and slightly exo selective fashion. In spite of the highly polar …
Light-component spectrum of the primary cosmic rays in the multi-TeV region measured by the ARGO-YBJ experiment
2012
The ARGO-YBJ experiment detects extensive air showers in a wide energy range by means of a full-coverage detector which is in stable data taking in its full configuration since November 2007 at the YBJ International Cosmic Ray Observatory (4300 m a.s.l., Tibet, People's Republic of China). In this paper the measurement of the light-component spectrum of primary cosmic rays in the energy region $(5\textdiv{}200)\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{TeV}$ is reported. The method exploited to analyze the experimental data is based on a Bayesian procedure. The measured intensities of the light component are consistent with the recent CREAM results and higher than that obtained adding the proton and helium sp…
Functions definable by numerical set-expressions
2011
A "numerical set-expression" is a term specifying a cascade of arithmetic and logical operations to be performed on sets of non-negative integers. If these operations are confined to the usual Boolean operations together with the result of lifting addition to the level of sets, we speak of "additive circuits". If they are confined to the usual Boolean operations together with the result of lifting addition and multiplication to the level of sets, we speak of "arithmetic circuits". In this paper, we investigate the definability of sets and functions by means of additive and arithmetic circuits, occasionally augmented with additional operations.
A Convolutional Neural Network based Cascade Reconstruction for the IceCube Neutrino Observatory
2021
Continued improvements on existing reconstruction methods are vital to the success of high-energy physics experiments, such as the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. In IceCube, further challenges arise as the detector is situated at the geographic South Pole where computational resources are limited. However, to perform real-time analyses and to issue alerts to telescopes around the world, powerful and fast reconstruction methods are desired. Deep neural networks can be extremely powerful, and their usage is computationally inexpensive once the networks are trained. These characteristics make a deep learning-based approach an excellent candidate for the application in IceCube. A reconstruction …
