A new isovector scalar πη resonance with a mass of 1450 MeV is observed in a high-statistics study of\(\bar pp\) annihilation at rest into π0π0η.

Threshold pion photoproduction in a light-cone quark model

Abstract The instantaneous and seagull graphs are calculated for pion photoproduction in a relativistic light-cone model of the nucleon. In both pseudoscalar and pseudovector coupling we find the ratios A (−) : A (0) : A (+) = 1: ( −1 2 μ):( −9 5 μ) in the nonrelativistic limit. These results correspond to the sum of seagull and Z -graph in the nonrelativistic quark model. In pseudovector coupling also the numerical results for realistic-model parameters are close to those values.

Radiative muon capture on 12C and 16O

Abstract We study exclusive radiative muon capture on 12 C(g.s.) leading to 12 B(g.s.), and on 16 O(g.s.) leading to 16 N(0 − , 120 keV). Our investigation, which is based on impulse approximation, puts special emphasis on elementary particle aspects of radiative capture, such as tests of magnitude and momentum transfer dependence of the induced pseudoscalar, and possible contributions of axial currents of second kind (weak electricity). We calculate several correlation observables which are sensitive to the nucleonic currents but depend very little on the structure of the nuclear initial and final states. Photoproduction of delta and Roper resonances in the cloudy bag model.

The photoproduction of delta and Roper resonances has been calculated within the framework of the cloudy bag model. Two alternative formulations, the original pseudoscalar surface coupling and the pseudovector volume coupling of pions, have been used, and the results are compared. The helicity amplitudes are in fair agreement with experimental data, the prediction for the small ${E}_{1+}$/${M}_{1+}$ ratio for delta production is -1.8% for a bag radius of 1 fm and pseudovector coupling.

Multipole strength distributions and form factors forE1,E2/E0, andE3 fromU238(e,e’f) coincidence experiments

A model-independent multipole analysis of $^{238}\mathrm{U}$(e,e'f) coincidence data, taken at four momentum transfers (0.2\ensuremath{\le}${q}_{\mathrm{eff}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\le}}0.7}$ ${\mathrm{fm}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}1}$; \ensuremath{\omega}=4--22 MeV) yields both E1, E2/E0, and E3 form factors and strength distributions. The E2/E0 strength distribution in the fission channel shows two distinct bumps centered at \ensuremath{\omega}\ensuremath{\simeq}10 and 14 MeV, exhausting up to 12 MeV (19\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}2)% of the isoscalar E2 sum rule. Doppler-broadening of gamma rays following muon capture: search for scalar coupling

Abstract A precision measurement of the 277 keV γ ray produced by capturing muons in gaseous oxygen was performed using high-resolution HPGe detectors. The Doppler-broadened shape of this line is sensitive to the possible admixture into muon capture of genuine scalar interaction. This experiment complements, in the muon sector, in principle, similar ones undertaken recently in nuclear β decay. Using a procedure discussed in earlier papers, a fit to the experimental line-shape allowed us to obtain for the recoil–gamma correlation coefficient the value of a 1 2 =0.096±0.041 (95% CL). Power ENO methods: a fifth-order accurate Weighted Power ENO method

In this paper we introduce a new class of ENO reconstruction procedures, the Power ENO methods, to design high-order accurate shock capturing methods for hyperbolic conservation laws, based on an extended class of limiters, improving the behavior near discontinuities with respect to the classical ENO methods. Power ENO methods are defined as a correction of classical ENO methods [J. Comput. Phys. 71 (1987) 231], by applying the new limiters on second-order differences or higher. The MAST FV/FE scheme for the simulation of two-dimensional thermohaline processes in variable-density saturated porous media

A novel methodology for the simulation of 2D thermohaline double diffusive processes, driven by heterogeneous temperature and concentration fields in variable-density saturated porous media, is presented. The stream function is used to describe the flow field and it is defined in terms of mass flux. The partial differential equations governing system is given by the mass conservation equation of the fluid phase written in terms of the mass-based stream function, as well as by the advection-diffusion transport equations of the contaminant concentration and of the heat. The MAST-edge centred lumped scheme for the flow simulation in variably saturated heterogeneous porous media

A novel methodology is proposed for the solution of the flow equation in a variably saturated heterogeneous porous medium. The computational domain is descretized using triangular meshes and the governing PDEs are discretized using a lumped in the edge centres numerical technique. A marching in space and time (MAST) solver of the shallow water equations. Part II: The 2D model

Abstract A novel methodology for the solution of the 2D shallow water equations is proposed. The algorithm is based on a fractional step decomposition of the original system in (1) a convective prediction, (2) a convective correction, and (3) a diffusive correction step. The convective components are solved using a Marching in Space and Time (MAST) procedure, that solves a sequence of small ODEs systems, one for each computational cell, ordered according to the cell value of a scalar approximated potential.
