Modelling tribimaximal neutrino mixing

2009

We model tribimaximal lepton mixing from first principles in a way that avoids the problem of the vacuum alignment characteristic of such models. This is achieved by using a softly broken A(4) symmetry realized with an isotriplet fermion, also triplet under A(4). No scalar A(4) triplet is introduced. This represents one possible realization of general schemes characterized by the minimal set of either three or five physical parameters. In the three parameter versions the neutrinoless double beta mass parameter m(ee) vanishes, while in the five parameter schemes the absolute scale of neutrino mass, although not predicted, is related to the two Majorana phases. The model realization we discus…

Doubly charmed exotic mesons: A gift of nature?

2011

Article history: We study doubly charmed exotic states by solving the scattering problem of two D mesons. Our results point to the existence of a stable isoscalar doubly charmed meson with quantum numbers (I) J P = (0)1 + . We perform a thorough comparison to the results obtained within the hyperspherical harmonic formalism. Such exotic states could be measured at LHC and RHIC. Their experimental observation would,

Discriminating between lepton number violating scalars using events with four and three charged leptons at the LHC

2013

Many Standard Model extensions predict doubly-charged scalars; in particular, all models with resonances in charged lepton-pair channels with non-vanishing lepton number; if these are pair produced at the LHC, the observation of their decay into l(-/+)l(-/+)W(-/+)W(-/+) will be necessary in order to establish their lepton-number violating character, which is generally not straightforward. Nonetheless, the analysis of events containing four charged leptons (including scalar decays into one or two taus as well as into W bosons) makes it possible to determine whether the doubly-charged excitation belongs to a multiplet with weak isospin T = 0,1/2,1,3/2 or 2 (assuming there are no excitations w…

Measurement of the combined rapidity and pT dependence of dijet azimuthal decorrelations in pp¯ collisions at s=1.96 TeV

2013

We present the first combined measurement of the rapidity and transverse momentum dependence of dijet azimuthal decorrelations, using the recently proposed quantity R-Delta phi. The variable R-Delta phi measures the fraction of the inclusive dijet events in which the azimuthal separation of the two jets with the highest transverse momenta is less than a specified value of the parameter Delta phi(max). The quantity R-Delta phi is measured in p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV, as a function of the dijet rapidity interval, the total scalar transverse momentum, and Delta phi(max). The measurement uses an event sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.7 fb(-1) collected…

Photoproduction of scalar mesons on protons and nuclei

1999

We study the photoproduction of scalar mesons close to the threshold of f_0(980) and a_0(980) using a unitary chiral model. Peaks for both resonances show up in the invariant mass distributions of pairs of pseudoscalar mesons. A discussion is made on the photoproduction of these resonances in nuclei, which can shed light on their nature, a subject of continuous debate.

Search for a light Higgs boson decaying to two gluons orss¯in the radiative decays ofΥ(1S)

2013

We search for the decay Υ(1S)→γA^0, A^0→gg or ss , where A^0 is the pseudoscalar light Higgs boson predicted by the next-to-minimal supersymmetric Standard Model. We use a sample of (17.6±0.3)×10^6 Υ(1S) mesons produced in the BABAR experiment via e^+e^-→Υ(2S)→π^+π^-Υ(1S). We see no significant signal and set 90%-confidence-level upper limits on the product branching fraction B(Υ(1S)→γA^0)·B(A^0→gg or ss) ranging from 10^(-6) to 10^(-2) for A^0 masses in the range 0.5–9.0  GeV/c^2.

Low-lying even parity meson resonances and spin-flavor symmetry

2010

A study is presented of the $s-$wave meson-meson interactions involving members of the $\rho-$nonet and of the $\pi-$octet. The starting point is an SU(6) spin-flavor extension of the SU(3) flavor Weinberg-Tomozawa Lagrangian. SU(6) symmetry breaking terms are then included to account for the physical meson masses and decay constants, while preserving partial conservation of the axial current in the light pseudoscalar sector. Next, the $T-$matrix amplitudes are obtained by solving the Bethe Salpeter equation in coupled-channel with the kernel built from the above interactions. The poles found on the first and second Riemann sheets of the amplitudes are identified with their possible Particl…

Predictions for η→ηπ+π− producing f0(500), f0(980) and a0(980)

2017

Abstract We perform calculations for the η c → η π + π − decay using elements of SU(3) symmetry to see the weight of different trios of pseudoscalars produced in this decay, prior to the final state interaction of the mesons. After that, the interaction of pairs of mesons, leading finally to η π + π − , is done using the chiral unitary approach. We evaluate the π + π − and πη mass distributions and find large and clear signals for f 0 ( 500 ) , f 0 ( 980 ) and a 0 ( 980 ) excitation. The reaction is similar to the χ c 1 → η π + π − , which has been recently measured at BESIII and its implementation and comparison with these predictions will be very valuable to shed light on the nature of th…
