On the evaluation of sunset-type Feynman diagrams

1999

We introduce an efficient configuration space technique which allows one to compute a class of Feynman diagrams which generalize the scalar sunset topology to any number of massive internal lines. General tensor vertex structures and modifications of the propagators due to particle emission with vanishing momenta can be included with only a little change of the basic technique described for the scalar case. We discuss applications to the computation of $n$-body phase space in $D$-dimensional space-time. Substantial simplifications occur for odd space-time dimensions where the final results can be expressed in closed form through rational functions. We present explicit analytical formulas fo…

Short range correlations in the pion s-wave self-energy of pionic atoms

1995

We evaluate the contribution of second order terms to the pion-nucleus s-wave optical potential of pionic atoms generated by short range nuclear correlation. The corrections are sizeable because they involve the isoscalar s-wave $\pi N$ amplitude for half off-shell situations where the amplitude is considerably larger than the on-shell one. In addition, the s-wave optical potential is reanalyzed by looking at all the different conventional contributions together lowest order, Pauli corrected rescattering term, second order absorptive effects, terms from the interaction of pions with the virtual pion cloud (chiral corrections) and correlation effects. Different off-shell extrapolations for t…

Recent Developments in Chiral Unitary Dynamics of Resonances

2007

In this talk I summarize recent findings made on the description of axial vector mesons as dynamically generated states from the interaction of peseudoscalar mesons and vector mesons, dedicating some attention to the two $K_1(1270)$ states. Then I review the generation of open and hidden charm scalar and axial states. Finally, I present recent results showing that the low lying $1/2^+$ baryon resonances for S=-1 can be obtained as bound states or resonances of two mesons and one baryon in coupled channels dynamics.

The σ meson in a nuclear medium through two pion photoproduction

2002

We present theoretical results for (gamma,pi0 pi0) and (gamma,pi+- pi0) production on nucleons and nuclei in the kinematical region where the scalar isoscalar pi pi amplitude is influenced by the sigma pole. The final state interaction of the pions modified by the nuclear medium produces a spectacular shift of strength of the pi0 pi0 invariant mass distribution induced by the moving of the sigma pole to lower masses and widths as the nuclear density increases.

Truncated partial-wave analysis of a complete experiment for photoproduction of two pseudoscalar mesons on a nucleon

2013

A truncated partial wave analysis for the photoproduction of two pseudoscalar mesons on a nucleon is discussed with respect to the determination of a complete set of observables. For the selection of such a set we have applied a criterion previously developed for photo- and electrodisintegration of a deuteron, which allows one to find a 'minimal' set of observables for determining the partial wave amplitudes up to possible discrete ambiguities. The question of resolving the remaining ambiguities by invoking additional observables is discussed for the simplest case, when the partial wave expansion is truncated at the lowest total angular momentum of the final state $J_{max}=1/2$. The resulti…

Generalized parton distributions of the pion in a Bethe Salpeter approach

2004

We calculate generalized parton distribution functions in a field theoretic formalism using a covariant Bethe-Salpeter approach for the determination of the bound-state wave function. We describe the procedure in an exact calculation in scalar Electrodynamics proving that the relevant corrections outside our scheme vanish. We extend the formalism to the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model, a realistic theory of the pion. We go in both cases beyond all previous calculations and discover that all important features required by general physical considerations, like symmetry properties, sum rules and the polynomiality condition, are explicitly verified. We perform a numerical study of their behavior in t…

Effects of pseudoscalar-baryon channels in the dynamically generated vector-baryon resonances

2012

We study the interaction of vector mesons with the octet of stable baryons in the framework of the local hidden gauge formalism using a coupled channels unitary approach, including also the pseudoscalar-baryon channels which couple to the same quantum numbers. We examine the scattering amplitudes and their poles, which can be associated to known $J^P=1/2^-,3/2^-$ baryon resonances, and determine the role of the pseudoscalar-baryon channels, changing the width and eventually the mass of the resonances generated with only the basis of vector-baryon states.

Chiral nonperturvative approach to the isoscalar s-wave pion-pion interaction in a nuclear medium

1997

The s-wave isoscalar amplitude for pion-pion scattering in a nuclear medium is evaluated using a nonperturbative unitary coupled channels method and the standard chiral Lagrangians. The method has proved successful to describe the pion-pion properties in the scalar isoscalar channel up to 1.2 GeV giving rise to poles in the t matrix for the f0(980) and the sigma. The extension of the method to the nuclear medium implies not only the renormalization of the pions in the medium, but also the introduction of interaction terms related to contact terms in the pion-nucleon to pion-pion-nucleon interaction. Off shell effects are also shown to be important leading to cancellations which reduce the c…

Baryonic Resonances from Baryon Decuplet-Meson Octet Interactions and the Exotic Resonance , ,

2005

Using the lowest order chiral Lagrangian we study s -wave interactions of the baryon decuplet with the octet of pseudoscalar mesons. We find two bound states in the flavour SU (3) limit corresponding to the octet and decuplet representations. These are found to split into eight different trajectories in the complex plane when the SU (3) symmetry is broken gradually. Finally, we are able to provide a reasonable description for a good number of 4-star 3 2 − resonances listed by the Particle Data Group. In particular, the Ξ(1820), the Λ1520) and the Σ(1670) states are well reproduced. We predict a few other resonances and also evaluate the couplings of the observed resonances to the various ch…

Recent developments in chiral dynamics of hadrons and hadrons in a nuclear medium

2006

In this talk I present recent developments in chiral dynamics of hadrons and hadrons in a medium addressing the following points: interaction of the octet of pseudoscalar mesons with the octet of baryons of the nucleon, showing recent experimental evidence on the existence of two $\Lambda(1405)$ states, the interaction of the octet of pseudoscalar mesons with the decuplet of baryons of the $\Delta$, with particular emphasis on the $\Lambda(1520)$ resonance, dynamically generated by this interaction. Then I review the interaction of kaons in a nuclear medium and briefly discuss the situation around the claims of deeply bound states in nuclei. The large renormalization of the $\Lambda(1520)$ …
