Fun with the Abelian Higgs model

2013

In calculations of the elementary scalar spectra of spontaneously broken gauge theories there are a number of subtleties which, though it is often unnecessary to deal with them in the order-of-magnitude type of calculations, have to be taken into account if fully consistent results are sought for. Within the "canonical" effective-potential approach these are, for instance: the need to handle infinite series of nested commutators of derivatives of field-dependent mass matrices, the need to cope with spurious IR divergences emerging in the consistent leading-order approximation and, in particular, the need to account for the fine interplay between the renormalization effects in the one-and tw…

Tau decay into $$\nu _\tau $$ and $$a_1(1260)$$, $$b_1(1235)$$, and two $$K_1(1270)$$

2020

AbstractWe study the $$\tau \rightarrow \nu _\tau A$$τ→ντA decay, with A an axial-vector meson. We produce the $$a_1(1260)$$a1(1260) and $$b_1(1235)$$b1(1235) resonances in the Cabibbo favored mode and two $$K_1(1270)$$K1(1270) states in the Cabibbo suppressed mode. We take advantage of previous chiral unitary approach results where these resonances appear dynamically from the vector and pseudoscalar meson interaction in s-wave. Actually two different poles were obtained associated to the $$K_1(1270)$$K1(1270) quantum numbers. We find that the unmeasured rates for $$b_1(1235)$$b1(1235) production are similar to those of the $$a_1(1260)$$a1(1260) and for the two $$K_1$$K1 states we suggest t…

A detailed analysis ofD-,D s - andB-meson transition form factors and the determination of |V cb |

1990

We study various transition form factors in semi-leptonic decays ofD-,Ds-,B- andBs-mesons using the pole dominance assumption. The vector current form factor is found to have only a negligible contribution to the decay rates involving pseudoscalar to vector transitions. In view of this fact we evaluate the form factors from present experimental data on the exclusive semi-leptonic decay rateΓ and the ratioΓl/ΓT of the longitudinal and transverse partial decay rates. Some non-leptonic two-body decay rates are also investigated using the factorization ansatz. Consistency with the semi-leptonic decays is found. The transition form factors of theD- andDs-mesons are found to contradict the predic…

$${\bar{B}}^0$$ B ¯ 0 , $$B^{-}$$ B - and $${\bar{B}}^0_s$$ B ¯ s 0 decays into $$J/\psi $$ J / ψ and $$K {\bar{K}}$$ K K ¯ or $$\pi \eta $$ π η

2015

We study the $\bar B^0_s \to J/\psi K^+ K^-$, $\bar B^0 \to J/\psi K^+ K^-$, $B^- \to J/\psi K^0 K^-$, $\bar B^0 \to J/\psi \pi^0 \eta$ and $B^- \to J/\psi \pi^- \eta$ decays and compare their mass distributions with those obtained for the $\bar B^0_s \to J/\psi \pi^+ \pi^-$ and $\bar B^0 \to J/\psi \pi^+ \pi^-$. The approach followed consist in a factorization of the weak part and the hadronization part into a factor which is common to all the processes. Then what makes the reactions different are some trivial Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements and the weight by which the different pairs of mesons appear in a primary step plus their final state interaction. These elements are part o…

Meson Properties in Nuclear Medium

2003

In this paper, we report on the properties of meson resonances in the nuclear medium, in the scalar and vector sectors. First of all, the ρ meson is studied by looking at the pion-pion scattering amplitude in the vector-isovector channel, following a chiral unitary framework in free space and in the medium. The pious are modified in the medium by means of p-h and Δ-h excitations, and the p meson couples to these components as well as to N*(1520)-h excitations. Second, the Φ meson spectrum due to the kaon channel is obtained in terms of the Φ selfenergy provided by a chiral SU(3) dynamics model. The medium effects are considered in the properties of K and K mesons which are renormalized by S…

Lepton hadron angular correlations in semileptonic ? decays

1994

We studyT-odd triple momentum correlations in exclusive semileptonic ∋-decays into three pseudoscalar mesons. We define asymmetry ratios that measure theseT-odd correlations and show how to separate the unitarity contribution from the trueCP-violating contributions. TheCP-violating contributions to the asymmetry ratios would have to come from new non-Standard Model sources as theCP-violating Standard Model contributions to the asymmetry ratios are zero. We discuss two extensions of the Standard Model that give rise to nonvanishingCP-violating triple momentum correlations, namely a left-right symmetric model and a multi Higgs boson model. Numerical results on triple momentum correlations are…

Higgs decay into two photons in a warped extra dimension

2014

A detailed five-dimensional calculation of the Higgs-boson decay into two photons is performed in both the minimal and the custodially protected Randall–Sundrum (RS) model, where the Standard Model (SM) fields propagate in the bulk and the scalar sector lives on or near the IR brane. It is explicitly shown that the \documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}$$R_\xi $$\end{document}Rξ gauge invariance of the sum of diagrams involving bosonic fields in the SM also applies to the case of these RS scenarios. An e…

Spontaneous breakdown of CP in left right symmetric models

1997

We show that it is possible to obtain spontaneous CP violation in the minimal SU(2)L × SU(2)R × U(1)B -L, i.e. in a left right symmetric model containing a bidoublet and two triplets in the scalar sector. For this to be a natural scenario, the non-diagonal quartic couplings between the two scalar triplets and the bidoublet play a fundamental role. We analyze the corresponding Higgs spectrum, the suppression of FCNC’s and the manifestation of the spontaneous CP phase in the electric dipole moment of the electron.

New Electroweak Formulation Fundamentally Accounting for the Effect Known as “Maximal Parity-Violation”

2006

The electroweak scheme is wholly recast, in the framework of a relativistic quantum field formalism being a covariant fermion–antifermion extension of the usual one for massive spin- $$\frac{1}{2}$$ point fermions. The new formalism is able to reread the “maximal P-violation” effect in a way restoring P and C symmetries themselves: it provides a natural “chiral field” approach, which gives evidence of the existence of a pseudoscalar (extra) charge variety anticommuting with the scalar (ordinary) one and just underlying the “maximally P-violating” phenomenology. Its zero-mass limit leads to a strict “chiral” particle theory, which remodels any massless spin- $$\frac{1}{2}$$ fermion and corre…

Strongly Coupled Models with a Higgs-like Boson

2013

Considering the one-loop calculation of the oblique S and T parameters, we have presented a study of the viability of strongly-coupled scenarios of electroweak symmetry breaking with a light Higgs-like boson. The calculation has been done by using an effective Lagrangian, being short-distance constraints and dispersive relations the main ingredients of the estimation. Contrary to a widely spread believe, we have demonstrated that strongly coupled electroweak models with massive resonances are not in conflict with experimental constraints on these parameters and the recently observed Higgs-like resonance. So there is room for these models, but they are stringently constrained. The vector and…
