Recent Probes of Standard and Non-standard Neutrino Physics With Nuclei

We review standard and non-standard neutrino physics probes that are based on nuclear measurements. We pay special attention on the discussion of prospects to extract new physics at prominent rare event measurements looking for neutrino-nucleus scattering, such as the coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CE$\nu$NS) that may involve lepton flavor violation (LFV) in neutral-currents (NC). GEPOL: An improved description of molecular surfaces II. Computing the molecular area and volume

The algorithm used by the program GEPOL for a finer description of molecular surface (for a fast calculation of molecular area and volume and for an efficient selection of sampling points) is presented in detail. Different types of surfaces such as van der Waals and Richard's molecular surfaces can be computed. As we described in the first article (J.L. Pascual-Ahuir and E. Silla, J. Comp. Chem., 11, 1047(1990)), GEPOL begins by building a set of spherical surfaces which fill the space which is not solvent accessible. One loop integrals revisited

We present a new calculation of the well-known one-loop two-point scalar and tensor functions. We also present a systematic reduction to a certain class of functions which minimizes the effort for calculating tensor integrals drastically. We avoid standard techniques such as Feynman parametrization and Wick rotation.

Generalized Virasoro anomaly and stress tensor for dilaton coupled theories

We derive the anomalous transformation law of the quantum stress tensor for a 2D massless scalar field coupled to an external dilaton. This provides a generalization of the Virasoro anomaly which turns out to be consistent with the trace anomaly. We apply it together with the equivalence principle to compute the expectation values of the covariant quantum stress tensor on a curved background. Finally we briefly illustrate how to evaluate vacuum polarization and Hawking radiation effects from these results.

Two-loop tensor integrals in quantum field theory

A comprehensive study is performed of general massive, tensor, two-loop Feynman diagrams with two and three external legs. Reduction to generalized scalar functions is discussed. Integral representations, supporting the same class of smoothness algorithms already employed for the numerical evaluation of ordinary scalar functions, are introduced for each family of diagrams.

Search for lepton flavour violation in the e mu continuum with the ATLAS detector in root s=7 TeV pp collisions at the LHC

This paper presents a search for the t-channel exchange of an R-parity violating scalar top quark ([~ over t] ) in the e[superscript ±]μ[superscript ∓] continuum using 2.1 fb[superscript −1] of data collected by the ATLAS detector in s√=7 TeV pp collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. Data are found to be consistent with the expectation from the Standard Model backgrounds. Limits on R-parity-violating couplings at 95 % C.L. are calculated as a function of the scalar top mass ( m[subscript bar over t]). The upper limits on the production cross section for pp→eμX, through the t-channel exchange of a scalar top quark, ranges from 170 fb for m[subscript ~ over t]=95 GeV to 30 fb for m[subscrip…

Measurement of t ¯ t production with a veto on additional central jet activity in pp collisions at √ s = 7 TeV using the ATLAS detector

A measurement of the jet activity in t[bar over t] events produced in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV is presented, using 2.05 fb[superscript −1] of integrated luminosity collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The t[bar over t] events are selected in the dilepton decay channel with two identified b-jets from the top quark decays. Events are vetoed if they contain an additional jet with transverse momentum above a threshold in a central rapidity interval. Fast Poisson solvers for graphics processing units

Two block cyclic reduction linear system solvers are considered and implemented using the OpenCL framework. The topics of interest include a simplified scalar cyclic reduction tridiagonal system solver and the impact of increasing the radix-number of the algorithm. Both implementations are tested for the Poisson problem in two and three dimensions, using a Nvidia GTX 580 series GPU and double precision floating-point arithmetic. The numerical results indicate up to 6-fold speed increase in the case of the two-dimensional problems and up to 3- fold speed increase in the case of the three-dimensional problems when compared to equivalent CPU implementations run on a Intel Core i7 quad-core CPU…

Elastic Deformation of Dispersely Failing Unidirectionally Reinforced Composites

A phenomenological model is proposed for describing the elastic deformation of a unidirectionally reinforced composite capable of accumulating scattered microdamages during its loading. The composite is considered as a homogeneous transversely isotropic solid. Its damaged state at every point is characterized by a centrally symmetric scalar function on the unit sphere (the damage function), which is used to account for variations in the elastic properties of the material during its deformation. Constraining the spin-dependent WIMP-nucleon cross sections with XENON1T

We report the first experimental results on spin-dependent elastic weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) nucleon scattering from the XENON1T dark matter search experiment. The analysis uses the full ton year exposure of XENON1T to constrain the spin-dependent proton-only and neutron-only cases. No significant signal excess is observed, and a profile likelihood ratio analysis is used to set exclusion limits on the WIMP-nucleon interactions. This includes the most stringent constraint to date on the WIMP-neutron cross section, with a minimum of 6.3 × 10−42 cm2 at 30 GeV/c2 and 90% confidence level.
