Evolution of fluctuations in the initial state of heavy-ion collisions from RHIC to LHC

2019

Fluctuations in the initial state of heavy-ion collisions are larger at RHIC energy than at LHC energy. This fact can be inferred from recent measurements of the fluctuations of the particle multiplicities and of elliptic flow performed at the two different energies. We show that an analytical description of the initial energy-density field and its fluctuations motivated by the color glass condensate (CGC) effective theory predicts and quantitatively captures the measured energy evolution of these observables. The crucial feature is that fluctuations in the CGC scale like the inverse of the saturation scale of the nuclei.

An Improved Hierarchical ACA Technique for Sound Absorbent Materials

2011

This paper presents an improved adaptive cross approximation (ACA) approach developed in conjunction with the Hierarchical format matrix and the GMRES solver. A novel scheme to generate the cluster tree (based upon preliminary considerations of the prescribed boundary conditions) and an improved ACA algorithm (approximating the system matrix for mixed Robin conditions) are described. The asymptotic smoothness property of a kernel generated by a linear combination of two asymptotic smooth kernels is demonstrated. Numerical results show the new approach to be up to 50% faster than the conventional ACA approach.

A hierarchical-ACA technique for large-scale acoustic simulations: complex geometries with sound adsorbent materials

2012

In this paper a boundary element approach for acoustic simulations based on the hierarchical-matrix format coupled with the adaptive cross approximation (ACA) algorithm and a hierarchical GMRES solver is presented. The cluster tree is generated using preliminary considerations of the prescribed boundary conditions. An improved ACA algorithm, applied, separately, to Neumann, Dirichlet and mixed Robin conditions, is described. Numerical results are presented to show the new approach to be up to 50% faster than conventional ACA approach.

A model of dunnian flow at hillslope scale

2005

The development of a thin stream above the soil surface (overland flow) is associated to two mechanism of runoff generation on the hillslope: the infiltration excess (hortonian flow) and saturation excess (dunnian flow) mechanism. The first one is typical of arid and semi-arid regions, usually characterised by high rainfall intensities on soil exhibiting low permeability. The second one, firstly introduced by Hewlett and Hibbert, constitutes the main mechanism of runoff generation in humid regions, characterised by high groundwater table. In the last mechanism runoff is produced by contributing areas of restricted extent that expands with time, where near to the bottom of the hillslope a hi…

How build up soil bacterial co-occurrence networks from wide spatial scalesampling?

2019

National audience; Although land use drives soil bacterial diversity and community structure, littleinformation about the bacterial interaction networks is available. Here, we investigatedbacterial co-occurrence networks in soils under different types of land use (forests, grasslands, crops and vineyards) by sampling 1798 sites in the French Soil Quality Monitoring Networkcovering all of France. An increase in bacterial richness was observed from forests tovineyards, whereas network complexity respectively decreased from 16,430 links to 2,046.However, the ratio of positive to negative links within the bacterial networks ranged from 2.9 inforests to 5.5 in vineyards. Networks structure was ce…

Psychometric properties and validation of the Polish adaptation of the Light Triad Scale

2019

BackgroundThe aim of the study was to examine the development and structural validation of the Polish version of the Light Triad Scale, which measures three factors: Faith in Humanity, Humanism, and Kantianism. This tool reflects caring and beneficent orienta-tion toward other people, which is demonstrated in everyday behaviour.Participants and procedureThe participants included 400 people aged between 18 and 80 (M = 29.17, SD = 10.60). To measure psychometric properties and for validation of the scale, we used the Polish Dirty Dozen scale and International Personality Item Pool-Big Five Aspect Scales.ResultsConfirmatory factor analysis, reliability analysis using α and ω coefficients, and …

Farm-Scale Crop Yield Prediction from Multi-Temporal Data Using Deep Hybrid Neural Networks

2021

Farm-scale crop yield prediction is a natural development of sustainable agriculture, producing a rich amount of food without depleting and polluting environmental resources. Recent studies on crop yield production are limited to regional-scale predictions. The regional-scale crop yield predictions usually face challenges in capturing local yield variations based on farm management decisions and the condition of the field. For this research, we identified the need to create a large and reusable farm-scale crop yield production dataset, which could provide precise farm-scale ground-truth prediction targets. Therefore, we utilise multi-temporal data, such as Sentinel-2 satellite images, weath…

The use of hydrogen purification and mixture of cosmetics acids, and the influence on acne skin parameters: a case report

2022

Background: Acne vulgaris is a common disease which causes physical and mental ailments that are associated with a significantly reduced quality of life. Contemporary cosmetology is looking for innovative and effective methods of treating acne vulgaris. The synergistic action of acids and hydrogen purification has a positive effect on the reduction of sebum secretion and thus the amount of skin eruptions. The aim of the study : To check the effectiveness of hydrogen purification treatment combined with topical acids for the treatment of acne vulgaris. Case report: The participant of this study is a 20-year-old female, struggling with acne vulgaris for 5 years. She has a problem with large s…

Institutional perspectives on retailing : rethinking the adoption of large-scale retailing in Finland

2018

This dissertation focuses on the adoption of the hypermarket in Finnish retailing and examines how major retail organizations experienced the transition from established practices into new logic of retail business, the large-scale retail trade. The research builds on DiMaggio and Powell’s (1983) analytical categorization of institutional isomorphic mechanisms, but utilizes more recent theorizations and insights of organizational institutionalism in the detailed theoretical framing. My research questions were as follows. How did Finnish retail organizations initially regard the hypermarket format? How did their stances change over time? To answer these questions, I examined the adoption of t…

Imposte e Governance Regionale in Materia di Cave e Miniere in Italia

2013
