Analysis of Biomass Characteristics in MBR and MB-MBR Systems Fed with Synthetic Wastewater: Influence of a Gradual Salinity Increase

The paper presents the results of a field gathering campaign carried out on two different pilot scale membrane bioreactor (MBR) systems, treating synthetic wastewater subject to a gradual increase of salinity. One was a conventional MBR system, while the other was a moving bed biofilm membrane bioreactor (MB-MBR), which combines suspended biomass and biofilm. Indeed, the presence of suspended carriers inside the bioreactor seems to give benefits due to the collisions between the circulating media and the membrane. Land surface temperature representativeness in a heterogeneous area through a distributed energy-water balance model and remote sensing data

Land surface temperature is the link between soil-vegetation-atmosphere fluxes and soil water content through the energy water balance. The Valencia region, on the Mediterranean coast of the Iberian Peninsula, is propitious to heavy precipitation, especially the area encompassing the South of Valencia province and the North of the Alicante province. Abstract. The main assumption on which landslide susceptibility assessment by means of stochastic modelling lies is that the past is the key to the future. As a consequence, a stochastic model able to classify past known landslide events should be able to predict a future unknown scenario as well. Coastal management requires rapid, up-to-date, and
 correct information. Thus, the determination of coastal movements and its
 directions has primary importance for coastal managers. For monitoring the
 change of shorelines, remote sensing data, very high resolution aerial images
 and orthophoto maps are utilized for detections of change on shorelines. It is

A new mixed-mode fracture criterion for large-scale lattice models

Abstract. Reasonable fracture criteria are crucial for the modeling of dynamic failure in computational lattice models. Successful criteria exist for experiments on the micro- and on the mesoscale, which are based on the stress that a bond experiences. In this paper, we test the applicability of these failure criteria to large-scale models, where gravity plays an important role in addition to the externally applied deformation. Brittle structures, resulting from these criteria, do not resemble the outcome predicted by fracture mechanics and by geological observations. Comparative Analysis of Spatial Interpolation Methods in the Mediterranean Area: Application to Temperature in Sicily

An exhaustive comparison among different spatial interpolation algorithms was carried out in order to derive annual and monthly air temperature maps for Sicily (Italy). Deterministic, data-driven and geostatistics algorithms were used, in some cases adding the elevation information and other physiographic variables to improve the performance of interpolation techniques and the reconstruction of the air temperature field. Valid, reliable and easy-to-use instruments are required for the assessment of family functionality. The present study confirms the two-factor structure of a 23-item family Functionality Scale, providing indices of reliability and external validity in a sample of 185 families with teenage children. Parent discrepancy is analyzed, and the statistical descriptors of this variable are presented in the two dimensions that constitute the scale: Facilitator and Disturber. The instrument is useful for assessing functionality and for calculating parental discrepancy in the perception of family life, which is also an indicator of functionality.

The Denison Organizational Culture Survey (DOCS) is one of the most used instruments in the study of organizational culture. The aim of this study was to evaluate the convergent validity of the Spanish version of the DOCS using the Organizational Culture Inventory (OCI) developed by Cooke and Lafferty. This instrument is the most widely used and researched tool in the field of organizational psychology. The convergent validity of these instruments was evaluated using Pearson’s correlation analysis.
