Health-related quality of life in European childhood cancer survivors: Protocol for a study within PanCareLIFE
2021
Background Survival after childhood cancer has improved to more than 80% during the last few years, leading to an increased number of childhood cancer survivors. Cancer itself, or its treatment, may cause chronic health conditions, including somatic and mental sequelae, which may affect survivors’ health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Objective The project PanCareLIFE aims to establish a large database with comprehensive data on childhood cancer survivors from different European countries, including data on HRQoL. Within PanCareLIFE, this study aims to describe HRQoL in survivors, investigate predictors of HRQoL, and describe the association of HRQoL with hearing and female fertility imp…
Size-And Wavelength-Dependent Two-Photon Absorption Cross-Section of CsPbBr3 Perovskite Quantum Dots
2017
All-inorganic colloidal perovskite quantum dots (QDs) based on cesium, lead, and halide have recently emerged as promising light emitting materials. CsPbBr3 QDs have also been demonstrated as stable two-photon-pumped lasing medium. However, the reported two photon absorption (TPA) cross sections for these QDs differ by an order of magnitude. Here we present an in-depth study of the TPA properties of CsPbBr3 QDs with mean size ranging from 4.6 to 11.4 nm. By using femtosecond transient absorption (TA) spectroscopy we found that TPA cross section is proportional to the linear one photon absorption. The TPA cross section follows a power law dependence on QDs size with exponent 3.3 +- 0.2. The …
Red Spectral Forms of Chlorophylls in Green Plant PSI - A Site-Selective and High-Pressure Spectroscopy Study
2003
One of the special spectroscopic characteristics of photosystem I (PSI) complexes is that they possess absorption and emission bands at lower energy than those of the reaction center. In this paper, the red pigment pools of PSI-200, PSI-core, and LHCI complex from Arabidopsis thaliana have been characterized at low temperatures by means of spectrally selective (hole-burning and fluorescence line-narrowing) and high-pressure spectroscopic techniques. It was shown that the green plant PSI-200 complex has at least three red pigment pools, from which two are located in the PSI-core and one, in the peripheral light-harvesting complex I (LHCI). All of the red pigment pools are characterized by st…
Plasmonic nanostructures for light trapping in thin-film solar cells
2019
M.J.M. acknowledges funding from FCT through the grant SFRH/BPD/115566/2016. ALTALUZ (Reference PTDC/CTM-ENE/5125/2014). The optical properties of localized surface plasmon resonances (LSPR) sustained by self-assembled silver nanoparticles are of great interest for enhancing light trapping in thin film photovoltaics. First, we report on a systematic investigation of the structural and the optical properties of silver nanostructures fabricated by a solid-state dewetting process on various substrates. Our study allows to identify fabrication conditions in which circular, uniformly spaced nanoparticles are obtainable. The optimized NPs are then integrated into plasmonic back reflector (PBR) st…
Frequency Range Selection Method for Vibrational Spectra
2018
Theoretical calculations of vibrational properties are widely used to explain and predict experimental spectra. However, with standard quantum chemical methods all molecular motions are considered, which is rather time-consuming for large molecules. Because typically only a specific spectral region is of experimental interest, we propose here an efficient method that allows calculation of only a selected frequency interval. After a computationally cheap low-level estimate of the molecular motions, the computational time is proportional to the number of normal modes needed to describe this frequency range. Results for a medium-sized molecule show a reduction in computational time of up to 1 …
Test of a separable approximation to a local soft-core potential in the three-body system
1975
Three-nucleon observables below the break-up threshold are calculated employing the pole approximation to the soft-core Malfliet-Tjon potentials. The results are compared in detail to those obtained with the local potentials and to those calculated with the usual Yamaguchi interactions.

Search for the decay B0→a1±ρ∓
2006
We present a search for the rare B-meson decay B-0 -> a(1)(+/-)rho(-/+) with a(1)(+/-)->pi(+)pi(-)pi(+/-). We use (110 +/- 1.2)x10(6) Upsilon(4S)-> B (B) over bar decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. We obtain an upper limit of 30x10(-6) (90%C.L.) for the branching fraction product B(B-0 -> a(1)(+/-)rho(-/+))B(a(1)(+/-)->pi(+)pi(-)pi(+/-)), where we assume that the a(1)(+/-) decays exclusively to rho(0)pi(+/-).
Precision measurement of the Λ+c baryon mass
2005
The $\Lambda_c^+$ baryon mass is measured using $\Lambda_c^+\to\Lambda K^0_S K^+$ and $\Lambda_c^+\to\Sigma^0 K^0_S K^+$ decays reconstructed in 232 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ storage ring. The $\Lambda_c^+$ mass is measured to be $2286.46\pm0.14\mathrm{MeV}/c^2$. The dominant systematic uncertainties arise from the amount of material in the tracking volume and from the magnetic field strength.
Tri/Bi-maximal lepton mixing and leptogenesis
2009
In models with flavour symmetries added to the gauge group of the Standard Model the CP-violating asymmetry necessary for leptogenesis may be related with low-energy parameters. A particular case of interest is when the flavour symmetry produces exact Tri-Bimaximal lepton mixing leading to a vanishing CP-violating asymmetry. In this paper we present a model-independent discussion that confirms this always occurs for unflavoured leptogenesis in type I see-saw scenarios, noting however that Tri-Bimaximal mixing does not imply a vanishing asymmetry in general scenarios where there is interplay between type I and other see-saws. We also consider a specific model where the exact Tri-Bimaximal mi…
