Is Persistent Thick Copious Mucus a Long-Term Symptom of COVID-19?

Introduction The typical clinical picture of COVID-19 is gradually becoming clearer, both in the acute phase and in the long-term. However, new symptoms are gradually being identified. We describe a long-term symptom that has not yet been reported. Case description A 49-year-old man consulted for persistent asthenia. The general practitioner found a fever (39.2°C), and COVID-19 was confirmed by the polymerase chain reaction test. Further symptoms appeared, notably thick, white, painless tracheal hypersecretion for 3 months before diminishing, without disappearing. The effect of nacom (L-dopa and L-carbidopa) on growth hormone secretion in 75 patients with short stature.

The stimulatory effect of Nacom (250 mg L-Dopa and 25 mg L-Carbidopa) on the HGH secretion was evaluated in 75 short stature patients. The number of blood samples was restricted to only three (0, 45 and 90 min). 63 patients reached adequate HGH concentrations after the ingestion of 1 tablet Nacom (84%). Somatotropin levels increased from 2.08 (Sx 0.28) to a maximal HGH value of 14.22 (Sx 0.87) ng/ml. When the stimulatory effect of Nacom was compared with the standard method of arginine infusion in children with normal stature the arginine test was not superior to the Nacom-test. IFN-alpha Stimulates Proliferation and Cytokine Secretion of CD40-Stimulated B Cell Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia Cells In Vitro

Interferon (IFN)-alpha has a therapeutic effect in several B cell malignancies, including low-grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), multiple myeloma, and hairy cell leukemia, whereas its efficacy in the treatment of B cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL) is rather limited. In the present study, we investigated the effect of IFN-alpha on the biologic functions of B-CLL cells, which were stimulated by cross-linking of the CD40 antigen. Polycystic ovary syndrome: metabolic consequences and long-term management.

Young women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) present an increased risk for type II diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. The prevalence of altered glucose tolerance ranges between 20 and 35 % in patients while the prevalence of type II diabetes ranges between 2 and 8 % and seems related to body weight and ethnic group. Moving from the young fertile age to the 40s and the menopause the prevalence of type II diabetes continues to increase compared to the general female population and may reach 10-16 % of PCOS women. The pineal gland has been considered a magnetic receptor organ that regulates circadian rhythms by means of the secretion of melatonin, a potent oncostatic agent that prevents the initiation and promotion of cancer. ELF electromagnetic radiation, similar to that generated by power lines, can alter melatonin plasma levels.To study this effect, 4 OF1 mice generations have been reared subjected to a lifelong 15 μT, 50 Hz magnetic field action. Ghrelin is a peptide hormone produced mainly in the stomach that has widespread tissue distribution and diverse hormonal, metabolic and cardiovascular activities. The circulating ghrelin concentration increases during fasting and decreases after food intake. Rhein stimulates active chloride secretion in the short-circuited rat colonic mucosa.

In a short-circuited mucosa-submucosa preparation of the rat descending colon with preserved Meissner's plexus mounted as an everted sac rhein transiently increased the potential difference and short-circuit current (Isc) when administered serosally and mucosally, but serosal application was more effective. Maximal effects were obtained at rhein concentrations of 1.6 X 10(-4) and 3 X 10(-4) mol/l. Net chloride absorption was decreased.
