Molecular phylogeny of the spider family Sparassidae with focus on the genus Eusparassus and notes on the RTA-clade and ‘Laterigradae’
2013
The phylogeny of the spider family Sparassidae is comprehensively investigated using four molecular markers (mitochondrial COI and 16S; nuclear H3 and 28S). Sparassidae was recovered as monophyletic and as most basal group within the RTA-clade. The higher-level clade Dionycha was not but monophyly of RTA-clade was supported. No affiliation of Sparassidae to other members of the 'Laterigradae' (Philodromidae, Selenopidae and Thomisidae) was observed, and the crab-like posture of this group assumed a result of convergent evolution. Only Philodromidae and Selenopidae were found members of a supported clade, but together with Salticidae and Corinnidae, while Thomisidae was nested within the hig…
BOTH MALE AND FEMALE SEXUAL ORNAMENTS REFLECT OFFSPRING PERFORMANCE IN A FISH
2010
Secondary sexual characters are often expressed in both sexes (mutual ornamentation), but are less often studied simultaneously. We studied the adaptive signaling function of male and female ornamentation in a mutually ornamented fish, the whitefish Coregonus lavaretus. In an experimental design in which nongenetic environmental effects were minimized, we found that highly ornamented females, males, and their parental combinations had offspring with better swimming performance and predator-avoidance ability than less ornamented individuals or combinations. Furthermore, highly ornamented females had larger offspring that also had higher yolk volume than less ornamented individuals. Offspring…
Data from: The importance of phytoplankton biomolecule availability for secondary production
2018
The growth and reproduction of animals is affected by their access to resources. In aquatic ecosystems, the availability of essential biomolecules for filter-feeding zooplankton depends greatly on phytoplankton. Here, we analyzed the biochemical composition, i.e., the fatty acid, sterol and amino acid profiles and concentrations as well as protein, carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus content of 17 phytoplankton monocultures representing the seven most abundant phytoplankton classes in boreal and sub-arctic lakes. To examine how the differences in the biochemical composition between phytoplankton classes affect their nutritional quality for consumers, we assessed the performance of Daphnia, on …

Temporal genetic structure in a poecilogonous polychaete: the interplay of developmental mode and environmental stochasticity
2014
Background: Temporal variation in the genetic structure of populations can be caused by multiple factors, including natural selection, stochastic environmental variation, migration, or genetic drift. In benthic marine species, the developmental mode of larvae may indicate a possibility for temporal genetic variation: species with dispersive planktonic larvae are expected to be more likely to show temporal genetic variation than species with benthic or brooded non-dispersive larvae, due to differences in larval mortality and dispersal ability. We examined temporal genetic structure in populations of Pygospio elegans, a poecilogonous polychaete with within-species variation in developmental m…
Automatizēta weblapu testēšanas sistēma
2021
Šis dokuments ir Latvijas Universitātes Datorikas fakultātes kursa “Kvalifikācijas darbs” (DatZR003) ietvaros izstrādātās automatizēta weblapas testēšanas sistēma projekta dokumentācija. Izmantojot selenium, capybara, cucumber, sistēma spēs veikt automatizētus weblapas testus funkcionalitātes pārbaudei un uzradīt testēšanas rezultātus.
Manipulating Individual Decisions and Environmental Conditions Reveal Individual Quality in Decision-Making and Non-Lethal Costs of Predation Risk
2012
Habitat selection is a crucial decision for any organism. Selecting a high quality site will positively impact survival and reproductive output. Predation risk is an important component of habitat quality that is known to impact reproductive success and individual condition. However, separating the breeding consequences of decision-making of wild animals from individual quality is difficult. Individuals face reproductive decisions that often vary with quality such that low quality individuals invest less. This reduced reproductive performance could appear a cost of increased risk but may simply reflect lower quality. Thus, teasing apart the effects of individual quality and the effect of pr…
Gaišo šūnu nieru karcinomas specifiski aptamēri
2015
Music in Gambling Contexts : What are Individuals' Perceptions of Music Experienced in Gambring Contexts & Why Do Individuals Self-Select Music to Ac…
2013
Music influences behaviours in everyday contexts (North & Hargreaves, 2008) and is a factor which can influence gambling behaviour (Griffiths & Parke, 2005; 2003). Experimenter-selected background music has been found to influence indices of gambling behaviour in laboratory gambling experiments (e.g. Spenwyn, Barrett & Griffiths, 2010; Noseworthy & Finlay, 2009; Dixon, Trigg & Griffiths, 2007; Marmurek et al., 2007). However, less is known about gamblers’ experience of music in real-life gambling contexts. To date research has considered music’s utilisation in gambling environments where fruit machines are located (Griffiths & Parke, 2005). Therefore further research is required to determin…
