A New Feature Selection Methodology for K-mers Representation of DNA Sequences

DNA sequence decomposition into k-mers and their frequency counting, defines a mapping of a sequence into a numerical space by a numerical feature vector of fixed length. This simple process allows to compare sequences in an alignment free way, using common similarities and distance functions on the numerical codomain of the mapping. The most common used decomposition uses all the substrings of a fixed length k making the codomain of exponential dimension. Can the advantage of risk-managing life-history strategies become a disadvantage under human-induced evolution? Organisms have adapted to the variability and uncertainty of environmental conditions with a vast diversity of life-history strategies. One such evolved strategy is multiple-batch spawning, a spawning strategy common to long-lived fishes that ‘hedge their bets' by distributing the risk to their offspring on a temporal and spatial scale. The fitness benefits of this spawning strategy increase with female body size, the very trait that size-selective fishing targets. Conformations and Energetics of Sulfur and Selenium Diimides

The geometries and energetics of different conformations of sulfur and selenium diimides E(NR) 2 (E = S, Se; R = H, Me, 'Bu, C 6 H 3 Me 2 -2,6, SiMe 3 ) have been studied by using various ab initio and DFT molecular orbital techniques. The syn,syn conformation is found to be most stable for parent E(NH) 2 , but in general, the preferred molecular conformation for substituted chalcogen diimides is syn,anti. In the case of E(NH) 2 the present calculations further confirm that syn,syn and syn,anti conformations lie energetically close to each other. Trans-(2,5)-disubstituoitujen pyrrolidiiniyhdisteiden enantioselektiivinen synteesi

2,5-disubstituoitujen pyrrolidiinien enantioselektiivistä synteesiä on tutkittu paljon, sillä pyrrolidiinirakenne löytyy monista alkaloideista ja on täten tärkeä osa luonnonainesynteesiä. Lisäksi ne toimivat tärkeinä asymmetrisen synteesin työkaluina. Erityisen kiinnostavia tässä suhteessa ovat erilaiset trans-2,5-bisaryylipyrrolidiinit katalyyttisten ominaisuuksiensa vuoksi. Tässä tutkielmassa käydään läpi eräitä tapoja niiden syntetisoimiseksi. Tutkielmassa keskitytään erityisesti trans-2,5-difenyylipyrrolidiinin enantioselektiiviseen synteesiin.

Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää kaveripiirin merkitystä ammattikoululaisten koulumotivaatiossa. Tutkimuksessa oltiin kiinnostuneita siitä, muistuttavatko nuoret kavereitaan motivaation suhteen, solmivatko he uusia kaverisuhteita samanlaisen motivaation perusteella sekä vaikuttaako kaveripiirille tyypillinen motivaatio heidän omaan motivaatioonsa. Motivaatiota tutkittiin sisäisenä koulumotivaationa sekä käyttäytymiseen liittyvinä suoritusstrategioina: tehtävään suuntautumisena ja tehtävän välttelynä. The chalcogen bonding (ChB) in a series of thiourea, selenourea and their derivatives has been investigated in the present paper. Thus, selenourea and dimethylselenourea undergo dimerization and trimerization processes in the presence of various halogen species (1–5). Selenourea and dimethylselenourea form trimers 3–4 in the presence of lighter halogens (chlorine and bromine) through Se⋯Se chalcogen bonding. When moving to heavier halogen (iodine), the dimers 1–2 are formed. Thiourea and its derivatives also tend to make very strong S⋯S bonds and form dimers in the case of lighter halogens chlorine and bromine (compounds 6–7). Simple ML2 [M = Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II)] complexes obtained from a perfluoroalkylamide derivative of 4-aminophenyl-2,2′,6,2′-terpyridine spontaneously, yet anion selectively, self-assemble into gels, which manifest an unprecedented rapid gel strength recovery, viz. self-healing, and thermal rearrangement in aqueous dimethyl sulfoxide. The key factor for gelation and rheological properties emerges from the fluorine–fluorine interactions between the perfluorinated chains, as the corresponding hydrocarbon derivative did not form metallogels. The regioselective synthesis of cis and trans stereoisomers of variously functionalized octahydro[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]quinazolin-5-ones was performed. The 2-thioxopyrimidin-4-ones used in the synthesis reacted with hydrazonoyl chlorides in a regioselective manner to produce the angular regioisomers [1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]quinazolin-5-ones rather than the linear isomers [1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]quinazolin-5-ones. The synthesis process took place with electronic control. The angular regiochemistry of the products was confirmed by X-ray experiments and two-dimensional NMR studies.

Hydrolysis/[3 + 2] cycloaddition/elimination cascades employed for the synthesis of unexpected tricyclic compound derived from isoquinoline. Reaction of ethylene derivative 1 with the isoquinoline ester iminium ion 2 in alkaline medium (MeOH/NEt3) under reflux for 1 h resulted in the formation of the fused pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinoline derivative 3.
